    Spot on in my opinion, 2nd this.

    Will still be an interesting storm! I work on a construction site in Surrey and we have just built two 35 storey towers, I'll be standing on the capping slab at the top at peak wind intensity!

    Can't wait.

    Won't the site be closed due to health and safety?

    The problem for me was Simon King from BBC R5 that on Friday morning said that we were in for "significant disruptive snowfall in the south and east". I then checked the met office forecast and indeed each day from Sunday to Thursday was an ice day with snow all day Sunday. Thats when my expectations were set. I am sensible enough not to listen to the mad fred peeps as they are prone to excitment. Simple fact is it didnt do what the met men said it was going to do.

    Reality was very little snow, the odd dusting. Light snow falling for just shy of a decade and 1 ice day so far.

    The snowfall was clearly very unpredictable away from the Eastern side of the country and FOR the Eastern side of the country it was widespread BUT localised too. A very tricky forecast all round. People who used the weather apps were no doubt misled as the data just wasn't accurate due to model uncertainty. This is where forecasters should be able to step in and use their experience and expertise to interpret the situation properly and I guess some nailed it with their wording and some didn't!

    Depends where one calls home my friend.Here on the Isle of Lewis,the ground is frozen,the small lochs are mostly all frozen,the rivers and streams are decorated with ice.The Clisham (Highest point of land on island at 699m) has had snow on it since before Christmas and this is an island bathed in the Gulf Stream.It certainly has been an odd winter!

    Sounds amazing! My corner of the world is on the edge of the Cotswolds but sadly lacking frost this year. I took this picture a few years ago it was -6 on my way to work. I haven't seen anything like this this year. By the way, I recall your name from the MetMonkey days  "why is Carlisle so mild" and why do I remember random things?! Lol

  5. Last Thursday it became clear that this cold spell was definitely going to be an event for predominantly the Eastern side of the county. So although a little disappointing for us lot further west it has not been entirely unexpected. From an IMBY perspective, its not been THAT cold and of course very little snow. Still had a dusting which is more than some! Personally I've not written this Easterly off yet as there is still hope and interest for me. But I bet the people who have been right in the thick of it have a very different opinion and for them I'm sure it's been very memorable! So it's all very subjective.

    Half the problem was the ramping type posts in the mod thread which may have falsely set expectations too high for some people. In any case, this cold spell could still surprises for some and February is not over by a long way!

    If I recall correctly that it was a decaying cold front from the north that somehow developed a low pressure system along its line as it moved slowly south and as it hit the south coast it started circulating moisture from the Channel back northwards into the flow so it kept it going from around 4pm throughout most of the night. We were in an almost unprecedented red warning zone 24-48 hours beforehand (I thought it had to be some sort of error) and was the heaviest fall/accumulation of snow we had here this century.

    Yes If I recall it stalled right over Oxfordshire and gave a 20-30cm dumping! Very tasty!

    There's a developing plop of heavier PPN heading very slowly SW, currently over Bedfordshire area.

    Don't think it's going to get to me but definitely something to watch for Oxfordshire/Wiltshire members etc.

    If it maintains its intensity it has the potential to give a cm or so for lucky members to the east/north east of the region;

    Watch it disappear as it hits Oxford now.

    I'll report on intensity (or otherwise) in around 25 mins! On paper it looks decent but could just be Mr Lighty McSnizzleface again.
