  1. You may not want dark at 4pm or light at 4 am but for me they are both naturally equal having said that i would choose summer solstice nights without having to think about it. Nothing wierd about light at 4 am,it happens every year for a few weeks anyway!
  2. Was working in a loft yesterday with my overalls on,took off my shirt first mind.It felt very warm in the shop downstaris but after an hour in the loft which was sweltering it felt like being in a fridge when i came back down the ladder.I worked 25 hours from early Tuesday until 8am Wednesday but had no problems getting to sleep when i got home with heat or light through the windows,30 seconds i was gone!
  3. 30 deg is a man made number on a man made scale, had it been in the old days of Farenheit we would probably be talking 90 degF which is 32 deg C.Just how many days of Summer have not made tht temp?
  4. Yes i heard it was torrential in Manchester and got as far as J22 of the M62 just 5 miles shy of here ,i heard the thunder and the skies became dark but not even a spit here.
  5. My point was that drought has always existed throughout history and has almost certainly been far worse than anything in recorded history millenia ago.As for mans contribution no one really knows for certain but if people think they are going to stop the world overheating by buying an electric car they are deluded unless they can stop China burning coal today.Personally i think it is far too late, mankind is doomed but the world will keep on spinning and restore itself to its natural cycles when man has gone!
  6. Many civilisations collapsed due to drought including the Maya and Ming Dynasty.Drought is nothing new!
  7. Hot and sunny most of the day, dark skies arrived at 4pm with thunder heard several times, apparently torrential rain a few miles to the west but remained dry here.Max 27 deg,min 13 deg
  8. Got to 27 deg here today,a little bit of a shock as it is i think only the second day this year above 20 deg,the other being 22 deg a couple of weeks back.
  9. Cloudy until mid afternoon then sunny,max 17 deg,min 8 deg
  10. Yes,its not even remotely as dry as last year here in the Pennines.
  11. Personally i think water should not have been privatised but wether it would have been any better is debated.Yes privately the people who put money in will get money out,why else would they put money in but left in the public domain where a Politician decides what to do with the money it would be a squander of monies on a Biblical scale!
  12. Dry and sunny for most of the day, achilly breeze out of the sun,max 18 deg,min 9 deg
  13. Many of the great summers come in pairs and am starting to think this summer may be a pair with last year, another very good one and although water stocks here are much higher than this time last year it could end up very dry by the end of Summer.
  14. In the last 50 years the population has increased 10-15 million but almost no resevoirs have been built.
  15. Just to note on a slightly different perspective, the reason why a drought at this time of year[Mid april to mid June] seems worse is that it is the peak growing time for plantlife, crops and trees. They are sucking any moisture out of the ground when in later Summer that is not so much the case.
  16. Cannot find much info here as it is so variable nationally but in 1995 some areas had no rainfall for 42 days ,1976 had some areas at 45 days, 1947 Kent had no rain for 50 days and in 1959 Finningley is reputed to have recorded 59 days with no rain starting August 14th.
