Oh yeah, I agree. Model chat should be about discussing what is coming, not what you want to happen. Surely that's what this thread, or the regionals, are for?
To come to your other point though, about the echo chamber, not at all. I don't block all who I disagree with, just those that offer nothing constructive. Well aware of the pointlessness of the echo chamber!

It's really simple: use the ignore user feature, it's great. Personally, I quite enjoy the hype, it's just a bit of fun. If the models are showing nothing of interest I'll stay away for a week or so. Like any facet of life, you have people in there for who this is everything, and that's fair enough. However, the very nature of the hobby means it's going to appeal to some characters who might find normal social situations challenging. Can you imagine going for a pint with them all?! This is their release. I only come on here from about November-February because I'm interested in snow; others will stay here all year because they're weather aficionados. That's cool, good for them.
By using the ignore user feature, I've been able to curate the content to, broadly, show me what I want to read, whether that's hyperbolic cold ramping, or careful, considered analysis of why it won't snow. Anyone celebrating in there because it's going to snow in their area only goes straight on the list! Anyone posting 2000 words in a post, a lot of which I can't understand, also goes on the list. Honestly, try it out, you'll find it a much more enjoyable experience. Oh, and don't follow any of them on Twitter, they're even worse on there. I've seen two of them having a full blown row about who called what, first. Hilarious!

Please can people refrain from the IMBYism nature of some posts, not to mention the crazy knee-jerking to every individual run, it makes things really tiresome. A lot of the stuff this morning is better suited to the regionals - the ignore user function is great, I cannot recommend it enough for your own sanity! Just found that you can also ignore 'mentions' which helps even more. So many knowledgeable people on here who contribute so much in helping novices like me understand, only to have to wade through "winter is over" or "looking good for my area!" stuff.
The irony of this not being model related isn't lost on me, but it's just a plea to think before you post to some.
Cheers!

I don't think you've mentioned you're going skiing in Norway, are you going skiing in Norway by any chance?
Norway is he going skiing, man! Ha ha! You beat me to this. Think he's excited.

Tbf you’re doing again but the other way. Has no one got an ounce of patience before reacting anymore?
There are reasons why the ignore function is your friend on here. Makes a much better experience when you curate it to how you want.

I was called a wind up merchant on here for daring to suggest that the cold air will be swept aside easily. Oh look!

You don't even need to read the Mod thread to know what the models are showing; just look at how many people are presently viewing. If it's near 100, game on. If it's near 30, it's the usual suspects arguing among themselves!

You have written the writing is on the wall for a cold Xmas. Then said we end up mildI'm done
The writing does appear to be on the wall for a cold Christmas, going by tonight's output. Not sure what he's said that's wrong?

Ok DJ fart… I don’t think you realise I live in one of most snow deprived areas of country. Sea level - inner London! It is a confirmation the cold spell is not your typical one.
Not saying it isn't, mate. The reality for those of us a little bit older is that this isn't, yet, a particularly big deal. It's great to have snow laying about; I was in London on Sunday night with my family enjoying the Christmas markets and it was lovely having snow falling. But that doesn't detract from the fact that it isn't, yet, that big a deal. Cold, yes. Notable, maybe. Roll on January and February and maybe we'll get something more pronounced in.

You’re a bit of a wind up merchant to be quite honest or you just don’t pay attention maybe both, it has been a noticeable cold spell in my part of London by far biggest December snow event in 12 years, the snow is still holding on rather well here after nearly more than 48 hours later this is rare for these parts. It was already meant to have turned milder from today. Live temps much country seeing rare ice day. -4C in Bedfordshire in afternoon! This is noteworthy cold weather. Period.
Oh right, sorry Dan, didn't realise the meteorological world starts and stops in your part of the world. However, luckily for me you ended your comment with PERIOD so I consider myself told!

Lol, another which gives me a wry smile is 'why are you even looking at that chart its 5 days away' when the very same people have been posting chart at 360 hours for Ensemble #20 for the entire period leading up to this cold spell. Then if all goes horribly wrong the JMA gets wheeled out of hibernation.
Ha ha! Very true!

"Once the cold air is in place, it's very hard to shift!"
A week of frosty nights then back to 13 degrees next week!

One lousy cm here just north of Colchester! Think it's time for bed. Can hear melt water pouring off the trees outside my front door.

Looks like you are about to be under it for hours yet. Infact you may be in a better position than those down south with the precipitation moving north
Just as I posted that the flakes went nuts!!

Really pleased for everyone that got snow tonight, but absolutely gutted to be so near yet so far up here in North Essex. Only a dusting for us. Been in London with the family all day and it was white all the way back on the train, even as far as Marks Tey. Get to Colchester and nothing! Three disappointed children (and one adult!)
Sleety mix here.

Looking good for Sunday evening. Dare I say that these things tend to get blown up nearer the time??

My thoughts on this current cold spell are if we're not getting any snow, then let's get the milder air back in. If I'm going to have to run my heating, then let it be for a lovely snowy couple of days at least.
This.

Same here, always looking for something in the wilds of FI that never comes. I used to go into the regional threads when snow was on the cards, as you used to get a more relaxed and informative description of what was to come. Alas, all the good posters have now disappeared from the regionals and there now a ghost town mostly.
I muted a load of the worst ones. All the "as I said back in August" type posts as well...

BBC Look East lunchtime suggesting some of us will see a dusting overnight tonight into tomorrow morning as a weak occluded front moves south. Looking at the UKV model Norfolk best placed, but the Beeb suggesting a wider dusting possible.
Here's a pic of the BBC graphic for 05.00 and alongside UKV for 06.00. Fingers crossed for those of us who like a bit of snow, even if it is a dusting.
Not for us, sadly, Mr Blessed.

It's awful isn't it? Getting absolutely sick of BOOOOOM charts in the mod thread which are always 8 days away. All that about Getting The Cold In etc is fine but pointless without the precipitation to go with it. If it isn't going to snow I'd genuinely rather have record breaking mild. If we can't get snow from these setups I think I'll stop bothering looking!

Spring 2023 - Moans, Ramps & Chat

Agreed. Like I said, I do quite enjoy the hype as well as the constructive stuff. There is a certain member who is fond of an exclamation mark who I've come close to ignoring before, but I like his child-like wonder! Despite my very low post-count, I've actually been a member here for a long time (10 years!) and seen the general content being 'dumbed down' a certain amount. We've lost some really knowledgeable people over the years and the community is worse for it. Just my opinion, of course.
