The big question is how long can the sea keep throwing it out towards us? if can keep it going for a few hours after dark then many places will get at least a covering.

Big fluffy flakes now, surprised as I thought it was going to be just small stuff.
You can't beat big fluffy flakes

The North Sea around the south east is filling in with cloud now from being clear at 10pm to filled at 12. Now it's just a waiting game to see if it produces perception into the south east! See - https://www.sat24.com/en-gb
The moisture should start coming in about 2/3am i.e RH

No I’ve just seen people mention it elsewhere (not mad thread) and that the temp is still currently rather high
West Kingsdown had snow falling earlier (Admittedly Altitude helps) ...but don't worry yourself at this stage.

I am starting to get worried tomorrow will be nothing more than a flurry, I am worried about the potential for rain in the morning
What's this based on? Not the metO symbols again surely??

Now please don’t all bite my head off when I say this but ….. rain tomorrow morning before any snow? That’s what my Met Office forecast is and nothing for the evening
I'd ignore the symbols most of the time, let alone at this stage.
Not recently for obviously reasons but the amount of time they say rain but it's been dry you would not believe.
Take it as a positive it shows precipitation if at all, the rest is nowcast.

I have to agree with you. I'm not going to complain if it does decide to snow but like you say, been bitten too many times even by the strongest of chances so I remain unconvinced.
As I said yesterday, Medway towns can have different weather types, bone dry in Gillingham but places like Lordswood snowed under
Like you, I'm taking it as it comes, not building any hopes up and hopefully be delighted.

I'm going into the next day or so with a very open mind, I usually do well out of a Thames Streamer, once it kicks in I want to start seeing longevity. Just a few centimetres on the ground will certainly hang about for a while, changing the landscape......and as a landscaper I'm not sure how much work will get done next week, ground will certainly be firm

Ive been stuck in Lordawood at a friends twice in the past lol once when lower ground i.e Chatham had no snow!
Yep, It can be a totally different world round that area within a couple of miles, to the point where people in Chatham/Gillingham would think your lying if you said you was snowed in

BBC London just showed temps of 5-8 during the day this week
The feel like temps will certainly feel a lot colder!
For me the Beeb seem to overdo the temperature, especially during the warmer months.

Seems to be some light precipitation turning Sleety across the North Downs right now according to net weather radar.
Meopham, Harvel, Bluebell Hill area
Nothing falling from the Sky a few.minutes, I looked at the radar and thought the same, cloud building and as Alexis says it's got noticeably cooler.

Morning all!
. Monday continues to be of interest with the potential for a weak Thames/Kent streamer to develop. The most aggressive modelling on this only suggests 2-3cm at most so I don't think we'll be seeing much, if any for most.
But.. worth keeping an eye on! AROME will be of interest when it comes into range in the next day or so.
Afternoon Met4Cast
I'm also keeping a close eye on it, I've a landscaping project starting in Lordswood. Even 2-3cm would most likely rule out it starting, That depth can also cause chaos on the roads round that way off the.main routes.

Some interesting weather coming up, we will certainly learn a thing or two from it.
Dry but cold will do me just fine, working outside what's seemed like endless days of rain has been a right struggle, looking forward to this afternoon (not).
I'm pretty sure we will have some snow opportunities but it's not worth getting stressed over, especially after every run. I sometimes wish we didn't have access to so much information (data), as a kid I was excited to see a snow symbol on tv weather maps...that was the chase

What a dull dark start to the working year!
Looking quite messy today with some strong gusts this after especially along the South Coast.
I think more would have been said about this if the FI chase wasn't on
-
Tomorrow is looking a very damp one!! And Thursday considerably breezy!!
Plan the Christmas shopping trips wisely
-
As much as I'd like to see a proper White Christmas one year, I'm old enough to know the chaos it will cause for many. In the Covid days it was hard not having family around over Christmas. If we had a White Christmas it would create the same feel, with family/ourselves not being able to travel about, not wanting to run the risk of being stranded and so on, especially the elders.
I know some would be praying for it though, not for the snow but so it's an excuse not to see family
A cold blast, bit of frost will do me fine for this year! I'll even let the heating go on for a while, but not the oven!! Christmas Air-Fryer Dinner

Morning all, nice chilly but sunny start to the day.
The fact the MetO keeps mentioning precipitation in the written forecast is a good thing imo.
Plenty more twist and turns to come, still in the game!!

Lots of interest still in my opinion and again it's not even Winter yet, It's a decent bonus to have an early chase.
I'd rather have a slim chance of a snow flurry and cold weather than the damp mess we've had for most of Autumn.
It looks a complicated set-up to my untrained eye, plenty of twists, turns and nowcasting, not worth worrying about when and how the cold spell ends.

What was the ground temps last December when he had snow? Our snow lasted a week, then some rain came in to wash it away

Even though I live in London, I feel quite optimistic for chances of some snow in the foreseeable future. Last year proved that when Islington got hammered. It’ll be a case of luck if the precipitation is more showery in nature - but as stated, it’s better to get the cold in more intensely as it strengthens the pattern and also makes the ground/atmosphere more conducive for settling snow. I’m happy just for near ice days though!
Yep I think we all have a decent enough chance of seeing some snow, how much is up for debate though, it'll be nice just to see some falling before Winter even starts.
The Christmas decorations going up and some snow on the ground would really remind me of 2009/10. It was good to see some before Christmas last year also.
It'll be interesting how the Met Office plays this over the coming days, warnings and stuff. The latest written forecast was 4am this morning.
"Sunny periods and isolated showers Wednesday. Cloudier Thursday and Friday as an area of heavy rain makes uncertain northeastward progress, possibly falling as snow over higher hills. Becoming cold. Breezy."

Gone very dark out there! It does feel very snowy in the air even though there's nothing on the near horizon.
Certainly has, now some heavy drizzle!
We certainly have an interesting week ahead Lauren, plenty of twists and turns to come. I think we will all certainly learn something from this week one way or another.

I am starting to think we might do better than previously expected. Lots of scope for convection over the sea blowing in land.
I always like an early chance of seeing snow, even just a quick flurry. Now if we was at the end of Feb I'd start to feel a bit nervous!! BUT we can relax, Winter not even started yet LOL

Morning all
Quite a dull and chilly start, quite gusty also which is adding to the cool factor.
-
Regarding the December snowfall last year, does anyone have any notes of frosts prior to that? If at all?
P.S The MAD thread starting to get into full swing...It'll be a long Winter for some
