You've probably got more snow then I'll end up with after the whole thing mate! Very nice photos, keep it coming.
We've done very well here the last two years. During both events last year snow seemed to build just east and push overhead. Hoping for same tonight! Mind you, I waited a good 25 years before that (with exception of January 2010)!

Now moderate snow in Three Mile Cross settling readily.

Coming down more heavily now. Dusting on roads and pavements in Three Mile Cross. S. reading.

Sadly won't make much northwards progress as the whole lot seems to be shifting eastwards
Shifting eastwards and moving WNW. Watch the radar animation!
I think there should be a note at the top of the page to explain this!

First small flakes making their way past the lamp post in Three Mile Cross (south of Reading).

Unless i have a broken radar, this has gone completely Pete Tong unless you live in Kent, No northward extent and main band nearly in the North Sea!
As @kold weather patiently explained earlier, the system is shearing ENE and PPN streaming WNW.

Temp steady at 0.9 dp -2. Dry. Cloudbase has lowered in past half hour. Much more of a reflective orange than earlier!

Temp 1.0, dp -2. Currently dry, but can see cloud base lowering. Can also see planes stacked for approach to Heathrow (often pass over here when wind is of an easterly orientation), so suggests cloudbase is still that bit higher to the north.

A few 20cm figures South of the M4 around the Swindon area, and also some 20cm obviously in Wales, Cotswolds, Salisbury Plain etc
The Berkshire downs and into Wiltshire always do quite well out of these situations. Some great sledging hills round there too!

No snow here as of yet, but I will update if we do.
No snow here in Three Mile Cross. The netweather radar has an issue: it's been showing some non-existent PPN ahead of the main front for quite a while.

I get the "still at sea" comments but it won't be later when it's colder?
It will diminish (probably) as it makes landfall.

I've always wanted to experience that. I know someone who lives just a short way away from Boston. Needless to say he has seen in one winter more snow than I have seen in my life I suspect!
Though funnily enough. not been that snowy out there I've been told, very cold, but not snowy.
Anyway front now moving into Portsmouth region, should start to hear snow reports very soon!
I was lucky enough to catch one storm that dumped 27 inches. There are some pics in my profile. Hard to believe it was 13 years ago!

I don’t understand why the radar says it should be snowing or at least some kind precipitation but there’s nothing... is the radar wrong?
Evaporating before it reaches the surface. Need heavier bursts of PPN to saturate the layers of air below.

Tonight will be fun across most of the region. It really feels like it does an hour so before a snow storm in the US hits... especially in in Jersey near the coast. Can't beat this feeling. It's -1 here currently and quite windy. Bitter! Very rare to get this feeling in our neck of the woods.
Indeed. I used to love walking around New York when a nor'easter was incoming. Wind is picking up nicely, temp 1.6 dp -2.

I think apps overall are pish. Phone apps
Yes. Don't know why I bother really considering I spend so long looking at charts! I have a better idea of what the weather will be than a phone app. Radar apps are a godsend in the other hand...

This what I don’t understand too - they are still saying 1-3cm I tweeted them half an hour ago and they just re quoted the map I posted earlier !!
It's based on impact though. If there is more snow than forecast, but it falls after 9pm then impact is much lower than if it falls at 6pm. Anyway, let's hope we do see an amber warning as that would be a pleasant surprise!

Snow has made it almost all the way across the channel. First snow for the south east looks like falling over Seaford to Eastbourne and the surrounding south downs.
Another blob of snow is developing down the M3 near Bordon. Apart from Devon, all the rain has now turned to sleet in the SW over higher ground and away from the Welsh coast wales looks amazing.
Can anyone confirm if that radar echo just north of the main band is really there? It looks very oddly shaped and a bit out of place!
