  1. I know I'm just over the Staffordshire border now but massive 50p flakes here. After an hour or rotating sleet, rain, snow. Starting to stick (slushy) on roofs etc
  2. Going back to my earlier point about my concerns, just seen the GFS mean and that looks good so hopefully we things won't change this eve! haha
  3. Exactly, we have been screaming out for a decent politician, one who isn't bunged my millionaires and then when one does, lots fall for the billionaire media view point on him. Shame really. Yeah, the overall pattern is flippin' exciting, the only thing that worries me is the slight easterly movement of each run of the initial disruption. As each shift east gives us less and less room for error. Am hoping a correcting westwards if possible tonight from the 12z runs to ease my slight concern.
  4. Pillock? Someone who actually cares for the people? Anyways... interesting update with the warning popping up. Must be more intense than they first thought.
  5. Yeah, last March having -3c and gale for gusts was without doubt the coldest I have ever felt outside. To the point it actually scared me as went for a walk and really started to feel unwell so turned back. Amazing to experience though.
  6. Bear with me on this and I wonder if the experts can help me on this... When watching the SSW videos they talk about the warming slowing the west - east winds they keep the cold air 'locked' up and that the slowing allows the cold to spill south. Looking at the charts that look, from a normal day, that the atlantic would breeze through the weak pressure over the UK and not slide. Is it a case of the models trying to pick up the cold air being released from the artic and struggling in the process?
  7. I've not graced these NorthWest forum for a while but had to come here to say how genuinely upset I am. I have grown up with Dianne and yes she got a bit of stick but I've felt sad all day like I knew her, as in some ways I have. Especially loving the weather I watched a lot when I was younger and she was 'our' local weather forecaster. So so sad. :( :( :(
  8. I'm guessing this is when the vortex splits and one of the coldest lobes has drifted over Scandinavia and then picked up strength over the North Sea? I've always wondered if that could happen and what fun it could bring? As the coldest lobes normally drift over to Canada, would be pretty interesting if the coldest lobe came our way instead.
  9. 100%! I get the idea of things being dragged off topic but if anything media wise is related to the models (Tweets, Long Range etc) then it should be in here. The deadness of the other threads proves that, it should be simpler. The moderators do a brilliant (and thankless) job, I just think it would be more beneficial all round.
  10. I know the GFS(p) 6z was a stonker but correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the new GFS? If that's so then should we give that more credence than the GFS? It's not a leading question but a genuine one as the parallel seems to get lumped with the lower end models? Or am I wrong and the GFS(p) is still being tweaked?
  11. Hi Steve I love your teasing posts... joking aside what is your current thoughts with how it will play out in the end?
  12. What does give me hope is that when the last cold spell was in the pipeline a few weeks ago they didn't budge from the 'Atlantic moving in' line, which gave us the impression that their computers didn't support it. Now it looks like they do have the support of their models which is only a good thing. In regards to the GFS 6z. I remember a few years ago Steve M mentioned that it had an Atlantic Bias. Again, not saying it won't come to pass but it's something to be noted.
  13. I've been trying to understand why this random low has ballooned into such a near perfect circular low, with no real jet stream momentum? I think the experts will know more but it is it the combination of the cold air and warm seas? It is a bloomin' shame that the potential has melted away - for now - let's hope it's a passing phase.
  14. Morning all, was out all day yesterday so i had no choice but to enjoy the conditions without posting about it every 5 mins. . It's a good job really as the weather was amazing, I saw true blizzard conditions, blowing snow in Stoke City Centre... Anyways the reason i am quoting you both is a went to watch John Bishop in Derby last night and yes, I knew it was in the Amber warning but really still wanted to go there was snow there but nothing major but by the time the show started it was coming down thick and fast...roll on 2/3 hours later and the car park look like Russia... t The pic doesn't do it justice as there were big drifts too, it was -3c and pouring down, it was amazing...then came the realisation that I had to drive home to Stoke. i hoped that when I left the car park the roads would be clear...it seems grit doesn't like -3c and heavy powder snow. To cut a long story short the drive was exhilarating but fooking scary as the WHOLE way home (at 1am) the roads were covered. Luckily for me in 2-3 cm by then, that's why I tagged your post as it's no wonder the roads were soon blocked as it was borderline for me. I looked at the radar and expected less as i got to Stoke but the roads were just as bad in Stoke, all covered. If anyone knows Stoke City Centre it is all roundabouts and hills... I nearly crashed twice, even crawling. I have a Dash Cam built in so going to download that and do a montage of my 'journey' to remember it by. Final part of the journey I had to get up and down Alsagers Bank (as live up there), I honestly felt like a rally driver and by the time I got home I was glad to leave it all behind. It was still pouring and blowing about and looked AMAZING but needed by bed as eyes were closing all the while. Woke up very early this morning to go for a walk and take pictures as the snow shapes were amazing. This Mini Beast From The East brought more powder snow and blizzards than the last one by far, it's been amazing. By the time I got in from my I-look-a-weirdo-walking-at-7am-walk it had started to melt in one or two places so was glad I got to see it all in it's frozen glory. I got a coffee and caught up with all your reports just, it's really great we can share our some what geeky love of snow all together. Here is a few from my walk, not as impressive snow as some but coming from slush fest Crewe these are sights that I have not seen since I was a child. Trying to find a level depth I'm guessing about 4-5cm as found a part of the forest that was sheltered and the snow was still on the trees etc, not bad. Thank God for Beast from the East Pt 1 and 2. But the little brother takes it for me
  15. I have a question, I trust that Mcr Airport is -1c but in my car it says 4 degrees driving home? Is that the road temp that is affecting it or is it genuinely that much warmer in Crewe haha
  16. Where you seeing the 12z? haha. I can't find it fully updated anywhere?
  17. Haha, being at the south of the region we want Hirlam to be right! And if we are playing on fairness then you had the streamer last time! haha Looking at the positive, at least some of us should be happy whichever model 'wins'
  18. That is a pretty stark and exciting difference. I remember an old BBC weather documentary when I was little and I think it was Michael Fish who said his favourite type of weather is a strong cold front when it starts off as mild rain and "you then wake up with 6 inches of 'partly cloudy' on your lawn". Always remembered that quote.
  19. Amber snow warning for my house...not expecting anything but would be a nice surprise.
