May end up getting more than the 29th Dec event here locally all be it much wetter snow. How is it in Stoke? ❄️⛄️  Heavy pulses moving northwards up the Welsh border Staffs and Shropshire now.

I know!! Potential is there. My trusty BBC App didn't expect the rain to turn to snow till 10/11pm...so early bonus. The radar looks off the scale!! Hopefully clear through fast so won't melt much over night.

Up here its mental, like most places.  Will try and get some pics from my window! haah.

I haven’t seen locally such a quick transition in many years usually it’s the other way round. Crewe also getting a pasting! ❄️ Should pick up 2-5cm overnight although will be perhaps a more slushy temporary covering the further west and low down you go.

YES!!! Never seen a transition from pure rain to literally proper snow so fast ...well I know it's probably hovering around 0c but defo not wet snow now.

Heavy snow everywhere turning white - what a transition!!!  ❄️ ⛄️

What a lovely surprise this evening is turning out to be... So glad lots are seeing snow.

I've been away for a few days (From the charts etc) so didn't see this coming.  Noticed on the BBC some white speckles so thought I would check in...a few days ago nothing to, what could be, a few hours of snow! Heavy stuff too!!

For me, I have never seen it turn from pure rain (as my lounge is in the attic and has velux windows so can see every drop! haha) to what is now, heavy snow sticking everywhere!

  4. Personally I am loving the current charts....yes, for all our sakes I would prefer less marginal but there is a lot of chances for pop up snow events.  Plus I am hoping we create our own cold pool again so what does fall will stay around a little longer

*Edit* Should have explained why, the polar northwesterly airflow! slack winds, low thicknesses and dew points.

That's an upgrade for sure and would bring a lot of the region into the firing line. Will be interesting to see the next model updates as current Euro 4 not interested.

Obviously a lot of this - from me - is hopecasting but it's happened to us many times where we were in the firing line...even on the day...and it stalled further west.  If the Fax charts have shifted west then they must have something we can't see that has that as the case. So who knows? Fingers crossed

Tomorrow’s snow chances are looking pretty poor for the region if this mornings TV forecast is to be believed.

plenty of rain on offer but snow seems to be reserved for the North East of England and more likely, the East of Scotland.

Always chances of an upgrade but I wouldn’t put my last fiver on anything meaningful for our part of the world, certainly at the heights that most people live at.

Apparently the new Fax charts have it a lot further west... (not sure how you find the old ones to compare)

Kasim might know more... the TV forecasts always have a slight delay catching up just due to production time etc, so who knows?

I'm afraid so yes, the upper air isotherms are largely straddled across the East of the region so most stay slightly too mild above. That being said, those ENE of say Buxton have a decent chance of something wintry late Thursday & into Friday & potentially very significant locally on the hills. This needs to be watched - shifts westwards would produce quite a significant risk for more of the area etc.

Cheers Kasim for you input. Obviously I am totally hopecasting here, it's just I've lost count the amount of times we were due to get clobbered - and even being in the middle of the warning area - just to see it stall on the radar , so was hoping this could be the case this week.

Raining heavily - something that unlike snow never fails to miss us! ☔️  Still a chance of late month cold spell shaping up on the models but it’s all just noise at this stage. Wednesdays system could also deliver some heavy hill sleet/ snow to the peaks and Pennines main wintry action will be to the east of us though - Met Office Warnings already out for east of the Pennines usual areas seem to be in potentially for another good fall of snow there.

I was thinking that literally everytime a front is meant to stall on us it ALWAYS stalls just to our west...so history repeating, I am hoping that this will be the case for midweek's potential snow risk as we move forward.

Light dusting of snow here, an isolated shower has passed through

Hi Joe, yes I saw somewhere that some showers might pop up before the front?

Anyways, was wondering what radar people use?  On my phone I like the MetO App as you can whizz through the radar so fast to see trends etc on my laptop I like the Netweather one as you can postcode zoom (and I like the colours of the different rainfall rates...easy to see ).

    Any other recommendations?

  10. Same as a lot of people here, slight dusting from very light snow fall....very pretty falling. Seem to just appear on the radar too. After the first day or so of the easterly thaws, the air seems to have dried and cooled down as minimal melt the past few days. None in the usual spots (corners of gardens, parts of the estate with no sunlight etc.

  11. Knew a thaw was incoming today got up at 8am to walk in the dawn light.  Won't post pics in here as I don't want to rub salt but they are on my Insta

Managed to catch the sunrise through the mist etc.

Was stunning, the mist/patchy fog actually helped keep the temps down as was misty till about 1:30pm so slowed melt down. Then the sun came out and it soon caught up.  #DripDripDrip

I think from tomorrow colder air is aloft so fingers crossed.
