  1. A little timely reminder to what the Daily Express was showing at the end of last year........... http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/29879 And we all know what happened thereafter
  2. Interesting Press Release from the Met Office :- Christmas is Coming Mild, wet and windy conditions over much of the UK this weekend look set to give way to something more seasonal during the Christmas week. Fog and frost are increasingly likely during next week, although a dry theme to the weather means it is unlikely that any of us in the UK will see snow at Christmas. Forecasters at the Met Office are expecting areas of dense and, in some areas, freezing fog to last all day as we head towards the festive period. After a mild weekend, temperatures are expected to fall again and could remain close to freezing where fog persists.
  3. Well the BBC monthly forecast all but rules out a White Christmas. Looks to be a westerly dominated picture with only a small reference to HP being to the south. Interesting that they equate 6-8c as being mid 50's fahrenheit though !! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/monthly_outlook.shtml
  4. Phillip Eden site reporting 1.8c CET 1-10 Dec this morning. Not bad considering it was running at 8c this time last year !
  5. Seems to be a developing shallow feature running down the North Sea. The track appears to bring it in across East anglia and the south east. http://www.sat24.com/ May generate some interest later this evening ??.
  6. In keeping with the La Nina theme I will go for 6.4C. This will also ( if verified ) be the eleventh consecutive month where the monthly CET falls below its corresponding number in the previous year.
  7. The Meto further update seems to follow the 06z GFS lead ( a bit of an about turn on yesterdays forecast ) :- UK Outlook for Sunday 20 Jan 2008 to Tuesday 29 Jan 2008: It now looks like plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread up from the south across most parts next Sunday with more showery weather in the far north. There are indications that the weather should then become rather more settled next week, especially across England and Wales, with high pressure building from the southwest expected to bring largely dry conditions through the rest of the week, although overnight frost and fog are likely. Further north conditions are expected to remain more unsettled with a brisk westerly flow bringing cloud and spells of rain, especially in the west. Temperatures should be around normal to mild generally, but it may become cooler in the south later in the period. Updated: 1145 on Tue 15 Jan 2008
  8. BBC monthly outlook updated. Mild & unsettled for the next four weeks with a possiblity of stronger winds for the first week in February. Not suprising really.....I can only remember a couple of cold forecasts from them in the past five years or so.
  9. Mild is mentioned no less than 8 times in the forecast, I think we "get the drift"
  10. a good 5cm here in Swanscombe,Kent. DP's rising though which gives cause for concern.
  11. http://ukie.accuweather.com/ukie/laminate floori-europe-blog.asp? Not sure if this has already been posted but Joe B******* on Accuweather seems to think Northern Europe is in line for a cold late Winter / Early Spring with the demise of El Nino. This would seem to coincide with the METO late winter forecast. Incidentally wasn't the METO seasonal update meant to be published testerday ??
  12. Very good point, this would be a major victory for one or other model as far as Eoropean forecasting is concerned. As for WIB well fortunes always "favour the form horse"
  13. http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/Rtavn1321.png Channel low anyone??
  14. Just driven to the viewing point at the top of Wrotham Hill in Kent. Couldn't see across Maidstone because of heavy falling snow. Theres about 8-10cms lying at the moment. Beautiful
  15. Not sure if this link from Andrew Masterman has been posted already but I found it a good read. Their 2005/6 Winter forecast was equal to if not more accurate than the METO equivalent last year IMO. http://www.usefulinfo.co.uk/globalclimate/...7_in_europe.php Sorry...posted last years link by mistake ( now corrected )
