  1. well put John, I do that with the UK charts when I'm creating my week ahead video, run through the UK sl pressure and the 1000-500 thickness just to get a theme of the week looking at the atlantic charts gives you a bigger view for a longer time frame. Always remembering that being in Scotland biases your view of the forecast (and realistic hopes) against say hopes for SE England
  2. At least the mirror has something current/real and useful as a warning this morning, (thick fog rather than 'heavy' fog) So travellers can expect delays, perhaps they can headline, Turn your fog lights off, later for every one who gets dazzled on the M25 as they all head home
  3. Nicola McGeady - Weather expert is PR Manager @Coral, Sports lover, Man Utd fan, Tennis enthusiast, Entertainment addict! PR manager @Coral Daily star giving out Met. titles as and when it suits
  4. Weekend is looking a bit more lively with a fine Saturday for east coast then heavy rain (wet hill snow) and gales whistling through Saturday night. I've got a train journey Lothian to Grampian, hope all the leaves are off the tracks.
  5. This week will be a chore for anyone broadcasting, with maybe some excitement for the weekend/start of next week
  6. No nothing exciting, just like what fergie weather wrote, sorry
  7. Yes, Chris Tubbs MO Medium range forecaster analysis is interesting from this morning
  8. Dusting for me East Lothian, just driven through falling snow, all caught in the headlights excitement
  9. The 114mph gust was at Aonach mor, in Highlands at 1130m so up a mountain, but still it has been wild and all the trains are off in Scotland, sunny here now but norhtern England is getting it
  10. Orkney and the far NE of mainland Scotland, Peterhead way, still look at risk til lunchtime of gusts over 80mph
  11. Glad I got the morning update finished as my lights are flickering like mad
  12. Like your photo, didn't recognise Cullen , I used to live near there and enjoy the little sandy beach (not on a day like that!)
  13. Hey Mardatha don't knock the TV weather people The Met. O Amber warnings (and others) are influenced by population density and climate, so Western Isles are expected to not receive a warning for gales, whereas a more southern sheltered area would, the emphasis is to highlight more unusual weather I suppose
  14. HI Snowy Owl, I'm not far from you, if you go through that bit over RIver Tyne on A1 past Haddington - that will be DANGEROUS, prob. closed, bridges will have issues. not for me to say how Dept for transport will respond but you can imagine. This direction is awful as it whistles through, with the violent gusts forecasts, so a lorry is bound to come over If Met. O issue a red, then essentially it's don't go out territory - like storm 'Bawbag' and trains stop etc I am not stating this is will be Bawbag repeat, will wait for another model run.
  15. The Westerly gales Thurs am funneling through the central belt is what could cause the most disruption, Strength wise areas like West Isles earlier, then N.Isles and NE Scotland later into Thursday night with snow = blizzard Could be something extra as it all comes through Met. O are considering Amber warning now and Scotland rarely gets more than that, the Amber will only be to cover the population density of central belt, maybe Aberdeen
  16. Thursday morning rush hour through the Central Belt could be dreadful
  17. I've given Nathan Rao the word "screaming", I'll get my coat ( big thick coat as it is cold)
  18. I had overlooked the comments, and a year on, it is even funnier
  19. The wind is going to veer more NW during the night so it will take the feed of showers down the west coast of Scotland and through the North Channel, pushign them a bit more inland SW scotland, but then they fade, bit of a ridge (HP) for tomorrow, so it's wether you get the right combination for a shower to come into you. There are wintry showers about already near to Glasgow
  20. Braemore and Cluanie , that is lying snow? NW HIghlands http://www.trafficscotland.org/map/?x=270000&y=755000&scale=5348388&itemtypeids=26
  21. Ah you might see some snow showers early Tues ( and I mean before dawn) bit of a feed down to the A96 in the morning, I'll point them out on STV North today obviously I cannae compete with the Express
  22. Morning all, I got a external thermometer for my birthday, just in time for the first frost in E.Lothian -0.6C my min. last night, all white and sparkly, currently 2.5C, a cold cycle this morning
