    Afternoon everyone Bleah! Dark, dank and dismal here in Sussex.Definitely not conducive to energetic spring cleaning so the kitchen floor will have to wait a little longer!It's one of those "sort out the paperwork for filing" type days....although I might also be tempted to sow the first of the piggie vegetibbles into indoor trays. (The raised beds outside will have to wait a while longer).Hopefully warmer weather isn't too far awayxxx

    Wow to these "up and down" temperatures ref the weather!...and the beautiful cloudscapes...thanx all for posting piccies.I regret to say that the Piggies are really not happy ..The down-side to the current weather (for Piggies) is the massive temperature variation occurring. Randy Dandy has already succumbed to a respiratory infection because of the sudden dramatic max/min temperature changes that have occurred over the last two weeks....and I have two others I am monitoring (Piggies can only cope with max +/- 10degC change - we are currently going from 16 to -1 over 2-3 days!!!)Despite being indoors, in order to avoid any further "environmental shock" they will have the heating turned on again tonight.Good news - I've caught the sick ones early in terms of infection so am whacking appropriate anitbioitics down them so they should recover On a personal note - it's been a lovely positive day today - I have "deep-spring-cleaned" half of my kitchen and destroyed my washing pile.xxxx

    Evening fellow regionnaires Another lovely sunny and blue sky day...... I'm so proud of what I achieved today - I summoned up the courage to finally venture out walking with a friend of mine to discover and photo a World War One memorial on the local golf course. Amazing that I've lived in this village for 16 years and spent most of it in a windowless office/business unit without ever exploring my neighbourhood! Wow - how times (and circumstances) have changed! I am still "re-habilitating" myself after my house was wrecked by devastating floods and everything else that followed on as a result, and I am finally, after 6 years, starting to accept that I can/will never be the same person as i was before that most awful time. The good news is that I no longer want to be that person any more - with nothing but work and targets and judging myself so harshly when i didn't achieve them - but it's taken 6 years to realise that and "let go" I am now working towards developing a kinder, more enjoyable and self-sustaining life for me personally. I still have a long way to go towards that real peace of mind/feeling comfortable in my own skin.. I still have "blips". and "panic attacks"....but I'm getting there, little step by little step. Today was a major positive step. (Just need to get a job now!) To those of you undergoing tough times - you have my sympathy and support. All any of us can do when faced with "tough times" is to take each day as it comes and make progress little step by little step....and not set too unrealistic goals for ourselves that, (if we don;t achieve them), actually compound our current distress. xxxx P.S. Beware - the new additions to the Piggie Palace household are currently getting confident enough to have their photos taken. Some of you might be on the receiving end of some piggie kisses soon! Another begging letter sent! xxxxx

    Afternoon everyone Saw the most beautiful sunset yesterday evening driving down the A31 Hogs Back out of Guildford - the sun was a big red ball, the mist was starting to rise and the sky around was a beautiful tapestry of violet hues. It reminded me of a Monet painting (Impressions - Sunrise if anyone wants to google it) Not sure about fog this morning as I didn't wake up til gone 8am by which time it was lovely and sunny! Very pleased to note from Mr Pike's updates that the recent run of "no rain" will be continuing for a few days yet The lawn is still behaving like a water bed.. ..very unsuitable for delicate paws....so the guinea pigs will have to wait a bit longer before being allowed out. (I hope it will be soon as there is a rumour spreading in the village about a mad woman seen crawling around the grass armed with a pair of scissors and a plastic bowl ) Have a lovely afternoon everyone xxx

    A beautiful mellow afternoon to take stock of the garden........washing is on the line for the first time this year...and my Camelia has developed it's first full saucer-shaped cerise-pink bloom.Despite the incessant squirrel activity and waterlogged ground.....a small number of crocuses, miniature daffs and snowdrops have survived and poked their heads up.....just waiting fior the wood anemones and bluebells to now appear on the banks of the stream which will be early I think?Sadly my 3 areas of lawn (now complete moss blankets) are exceptionally and (somewhat) unexpectedly "very squidgy" and "very squelchy" ....even in the higher areas where they really shouldn't be..NO MORE RAIN PLEASE! xxxxPS Piggie dating really does work! Tonight Ginger piggie is happily snuggled with his new young wifey Tabitha today....I'm amazed at the positive difference in his behaviour.... and she is is so supportive of him already..Spring is in the air - Ain't love grand....even with septagenerian guinea-pigs!xxx

    Evening everyone A truly fabulous day weather-wise driving up from Sussex to Leeds to visit our adopted regionnaire Numpty. Sunshine, blue sky and really interesting cloud structures (whatever they were) all the way up the M1 - not seen these types for such a very long time! The blackthorn (?) has exploded into blossom, there were buzzards galore soaring on the thermals....and I didn;t have to drop below 50mph all the way up. Speaking of spring, it would appear that love is blossoming tonight for the speed-dating Ginger piggy - word is that he is happily snuggling up to his potential new wifepig....paws crossed it stays that way as we have to go back home tomorrow! xxx

    A reasonable day here - cloudy with sunny spells, cold, ............ but VERY LITTLE RAIN Quickie update: dear old blind Ginger piggy (who lost his wifey Tia recently) is coping well and going speed dating tomorrow in the hope of finding a new wifey (or two) to help groom his eyes and alert him to when the veggies are being served. (Don;t worry - he is de-plummed) All paws crossed here ... xxxx

    Evening everyone - I have just returned with my Tatcos ready meal and I can confirm it is very windy and wet..;....and cold Afraid I've been MIA recently - stupidly took a look in the MAD thread in mid-February and have been convalescing ever since. I know, I know..... you warned me not to go there..... Really pleased to hear your news Snowlady.......hope JennyJane is OK as she has been a bit MIA too recently? Glad to see we've got some drier weather on the way - the company concerned have finally agreed to replace my "warped" flood doors under warranty ......so I'm hoping tonight will be the last "Towel duty" in the utility room for a while. Speaking of which - Surrey - hopefully the sand held back the floodwater and it si now receding? And Mr Pike Sir- I do hope you're not still on saucepan duty? xxx

    Had quite a lot more rain yesterday than I was expecting and thankfully drier but still grey and drizzly today. On the subject of wet gardens - I hope no-one has this going on: http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/update/2014-02-19/wobbly-ground-side-effect-of-waterlogged-field/ Finally some sad but possibly weather-related news: Ginger piggy lost his wifepig Tia on sunday Both had been boarding at the vets all last week whilst she was being treated successfully, we all thought, for a nasty infection of the external ear canal. But on sunday it broke through to the middle/inner ear and she went suddenly downhill so was PTS by the out of hours vet. Talking it through monday with the regular vet (who Xrayed her body and found the ear drum still intact) ), the best theory we can come up with is that the low pressure friday/saturday and resulting pressure equalisation mechanism operating between middle and outer ear may have created an opportunity for the infection to spread inward. RIP little girly - hopefully we can find blind Ginger a new "guide-pig" soon as he is lost without her. Xxx

    Ye gods - seriously thought sink tap washer had suddenly failed- just the rain battering against the leaky back door........reckon that's yet another load for the washing machine....more towels matron please.

    I have had the dishwasher and the washing machine on all afternoon- one load of washing left to do -(in advance of the impending power cuts/lack of sewage/wastewater facilities later!) Also going to re-organise the fridge. Have got soups and the piggies will have their favourite veg tonight - carrots with the green tops - to take their minds off the storm later tonight. Still cleaning out/disinfecting the pet carriers from yesterday's rescue run in case I need them to evacuate my own pigs tonight. Keep popping out to the green recycling bin to find the wind is very undecided here atm - few gusts but then sometimes quite calm.......not liking this eerie feeling at all........sod it......pass the wine please somebodyxxxx

    Phew - I'm now ready for flooding but not yet for the gales. Now please don;t laugh - but when there is a risk of the house flooding I do like to have nice clean floors/carpets..... so having moved everything to higher ground, have been madly vacuuming up the stray hay and wood shavings currently littering the downstairs courtesy of the piggies ! Thankfully it stopped raining here about 3.30pm......stream peaked 2" short of flooding the bridge/breaking bank.......this was about 4.15pm so quite chuffed I got the timing right! It's all going to depend now on how much more rain is dumped in how short a space of time tonight. The stream is primed to capacity - we need a pause in the rain for a good 2hours to give it time to recover otherwise another 5mm in 30mins will tip it over and it will all end in soggy mess.Worryingly it's gone very dark here and just had visit from PCSO on duty til midnight to identify possible flooding/sewage issues for vulnerable residents that could arise later - have told her that tea and coffee is available here throughout the night for her and colleagues...provided they can get across the bridge Back later tonight when the winds pick up.xxx

    I spoke to soon! EA have just rung - the rain gauge warning at Weir Wood has gone off... meaning over 10mm in <2hrs has fallen with more heavy intense stuff to come between now and 5.30 tonight. The stream has just been put on flood warning. Judging from the fact it's still raining heavily here with more to come, I anticipate it could be out of bank by about 16.00 unless we get some respite between bursts....hopefully though it won;t be enough to seriously challenge the properties.Off to move carxxx

    Afternoon everyone Went to vets in Horsham around 11am - was tipping it down and M23 already suffering from spray and surface water in the usual spots with warning signs for 50mph Picking up hay for the piggies in Crawley the raindrops were very big and cold .....and I swear there was some snow or sleet in it (car thermometer showing 4degC). Now back home with weekend shopping and can confirm we too have rice paddies in the garden and a river in the road. Stream is coping admirably atm and no warnings from EA ......yet! Going to visit neighbours shortly and ask them to put their bins in a safe place as they are still left out on the road from wednesday! Then it's house and piggie cleaning plus another night on the sofa! (The long journey I made yesterday was postponed from wednesday - to get 40small furries from a huge uplift in Durham into safe rescue spaces across the midlands/Wales and south west before the weather set in again - although not all of them made it to rescue....one just happened to "hide in my pocket" - Valentine is the latest addition ot Piggie Palace) I can;t tell you how invaluable Netweather has been in helping us plan the logistics and timings given the miles and geography we are having to cover to transport these small furries safely - a big thank you to everyone! xxx
