  1. Hi All Sorry been a bit absent recently... Firstly JP very sorry to hear about your dad and sending you hugs at this significant time......... Chilly Milly - glad you made it home safe and really pleased to hear the outcome of the op for your "wee one" Tamara - don;t let the turkeys get you down - we all love you here! JJ1 - sorry to hear Southernman is in hospital - are you going to be OK for tomorrow's stormfest? Secondly: Travelled 520 miles today in 13 hours......up to West Mids, then to Wales and back to Sussex Serious flooding at Ross on Wye...and a few other places down the A40 but properties not involved, mainly farmland. I ALSO SAW SNOW. ON THE WELSH HILLS....(but I wasn;t able to stop the car and measure it) - presumably this does NOT count for the Snow Depth Cup??????? (boo hisss...well OK guess not as it was "out of region" LOL) Also had great sunny weather with lovely floofy clouds (sorry don;t know their real names) for the first two thirds of the journey..unfortunately the moment I entered Wales it was severe rain/sleet/hail/snow all down the Head of the Valley road (A465) Drove back tonight with a temp of 1.5, clear skies and water freezing on the windscreen despite the -20 screen-wash. Stay safe tomorrow everyone- I'm battening down hatches for tomorrow. xxx
  2. Bad day elsewhere......, ,,Going to bed now..sorry weather rdiends... xxxxx
  3. For the morning Netweathers: Double glazing now promoted itself from "creaking" to "whistling" mode....Getting a bad feeling about this storm - piggies are fractious too!..........stay safe everyone please! xxx
  4. Hi Callie Certainly wasn't expecting it this bad so soon.......and still confuddled about why my flood warning has been rescinded given the current amount of rain....unless they're expecting it to be blown away before it lands LOL Will be trying to salvage what's left of tonight's sleep on the sofa bed downstairs......xxx
  5. Zoiks! Rain coming in through flood doors, wind thrashing the trees in quite lengthy sustained gusts...just moved piggies to rear of house and now doing a recce outside on the bins/car........Edit: back now having weighted bin lids and moved car to higher ground I am not liking how this is shaping up! More towels Matron please....... xxxx
  6. Our flood warning was rescinded suddenly "back to naught" a few hours ago.....Still trying to contact the EA for an explanation given the incoming storm.....have I missed something????xxxx
  7. Awww bless Hun - big hugs...piggies are also sending you and your family best wishes..(...oopps - providing their vegetibbles supply remain intact!) Seriously though - hope all goes smoothly for you and your family and thinking of you xxxx
  8. Great if shocking video capturing a moment- in mother nature's repertoire ..keep being drawn back to it today!xxx
  9. Here you go Lukey https://twitter.com/search?q=waterford&src=typd Keeping fingers and paws crossed here for you xxx
  10. Peaceful and quiet here now apart from the odd gust.....until Round 2 tomorrow afternoon/evening St Ives storm surge- fascinating as well as sad to watch....yet the music is strangely soothing.......bit "Titanic meets "The Mission"http://stivestv.co.uk/all-st-ives-tv-videos/storm-surge-strikes-st-ives-harbour/ xxx
  11. La la la la la..... .... Don't wish to be rude Jimmy but please can we get through Saturday first ... .... (seriously though, thanks for the heads up ) xxxx
  12. Sending thoughts to our neighbours in the South West..... .HOLY **** - this is Dawlish - deteriorated since the pics I saw earlier this morning! https://twitter.com/BBCNews/status/431107854989541377/photo/1 https://twitter.com/Telegraph/status/431095206868287488/photo/1 xxxx.
  13. Evening everyone Unfortunately I got distracted today and the ironing is no further forward...but I have been to the supermarket and the piggies will get veggies tonight.. yay! No rain the last 90mins or so. However wind has picked up Here quote noticeably over the last 30mins - we have even had a "whistle" from the double glazing and another thunk from outside....off to investigate. Edit: ("Here" being on E/W Sussex borders with Surrey 8 miles away and Kent not too further (12 miles) either....makes for interesting reading of the Met Office warnings!) xxx
  14. Next lot of rain/gusts now incoming....... I want one of these!!!! https://twitter.com/BrownesPhoto/status/430830247496650753/photo/1 Awesome!! xxxx
  15. Afternoon all - woken up at 6am this morning by Flood Alert for Upper Medway. River and stream levels however currently looking OK which suggests that again the local shield has protected us from the rain that fell in the wider area overnight.. Winds gusty now but not seriously so- although I need to go out and weigh down the bin lids as forgot to do that last night and keep getting an occasional thunk from outside. The Eucalyptus in the front garden on the stream bank is bending like crazy but roots still holding firm with the bank. Dreading saturday - if it comes down it's going to be a hell of a mess to clear up as it will rip out a large section of the stream bank. possibly take out my front windows and give the piggies a real fright - might move them to the other end of the lounge later today. Am seriously thinking of investing in a weather station as currently I can only judge the winds by whether the double glazing creaks during gusts (as it is now) or whistles (like it did night of 23rd Dec).Have no intention of travelling anywhere until sunday - time to tackle the ironing and paper mountains whilst watching a few choice DVD's - I think it might be a back to back Pirates of the Caribbean or Lethal Weapon kind of dayxxx
  16. Not quite sure where my post disappeared to earlier...... Have had lots of rain here from 10pm and got gusty around 11.30. However since 1.30am been very quiet....and rain stopped 15mins ago. Didn't get back tonight until after midnight from Pairsh Council meeting and now having the dubious pleasure of yet again lifting everything up above flood level before i can go to bed.Nite allxxx
  17. Edit: Here is their facebook page for the full story - some dramatic piccies! https://www.facebook.com/thewateringholeperranporth?ref=br_tf xxx
  18. Have to say I am concerned exactly how badly this will impact on SE coastal areas given that "the largest waves ever to hit Cornwall" are forecast for wednesday. The Watering Hole in Perranporth are now stripping out the bar before the sea does it for them https://twitter.com/W_hole_Cornwall/status/430408131286278145/photo/1/large?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=W_hole_Cornwall&utm_content=430408131286278145 I assume the Environment Agency will issue coastal warnings some time tomorrow. Here on the Sussex/Surrey border, I don;t think I need to be too worried about wind damage....but friday's rain could present a problem for my stream if we get 15mm in <1hr xxx
  19. Oooohh zzuuuuurrr. I do begeee pardon.....Aayyyy ammm but a humble vyllage guinea-swine-herd.... (Can you tell I went to the village pantomime last night and am obviously still in character ) Bless you Jax.....you can come back from the car! xxxx Edit: I'll take your hour's creakiness and raise you another hour LOL Double edit: oops ...just realised how that last sentence could be really improperly misconstrued..must watch my worms more carefully in future... xxx
  20. Hee hee, evening JJ , I suspect, being relative weather newbies, we might not necessarily understand some of these oldies "stalwarts" jokes/references. Regards to SM. Glad your boiler is now working. Weather-wise, PP and Piggies are all good here too thanks - wednesday might be another matter hence biting my nails until JP feels able to guide us. xxxx
  21. Phew - I love grebes...and mergansers etc - still remember my rheumatism-free when I were younger those freezing cold birdwatching days at Rainham, Portland and Scilly Isles... xxx
  22. I did too! Thanx for posting Victor. I didn't comment at the time because they're a bit too scarey/near the knuckle for me given my own circumstances..... Actually, to be completely honest, having watched them, I felt an urgent need to become an ostritch....... so went back to bed xxxx
  23. Evening everyone Had a very lazy day today - Got very excited about the 5* Severn Bore forecast this morning so was up to watch live on BBC News. It started well but owing to the amount of floodwater it had diminished to a disappointing ripple by the time it got to Minsterworth. Didn't stop the tidal surge following it putting the Severn out of bank again and flooding the nearby properties. Nice vid on here of the best bit of the Bore today. http://blogs.channel4.com/alex-thomsons-view/severn-bore-surge-floods/7209 Been sorting out some old recovered files on my hard drive from computers gone by and came across some before/after flood pictures of my stream from 2007 which I will put up in the next few days to demonstrate just how crazy and fast things can change when mother nature is at work......and why I am such a nervous wreck when more than 25mm of rain is forecast In a similar vein, I have also been glued to twitter and facebook the last 24hours following the unfolding drama of The Watering Hole pub on Perranporth Beach that really looked like it was going to be lost to the high tides/storm surge last night......thankfully it survived last night and this morning....hopefully it;s still doing OK as we speak. https://twitter.com/Felixleiteruk/status/430044747013828609/photo/1 Have to say I am now adding the Severn Bore and Perranporth to my bucket list....but I won;t be taking a surfboard! Not looking forward to the weather this coming week and all downgrades would be much appreciated....as of course will be all the helpful analyses and timings from our resident weather bods on here........please continue to KISS (keep it simple stupid) for the likes of me who are still learning. xxxx Edit: Iceni - guinea pigs originally came from Peru where a much larger version called a "cuy" is bred to eat. Some rather distressing Youtube videos exist involving their killing and preparation so I try not to mention it when my piggies are listening. xxx
  24. Nooooooo! We have just got another bout of nasty torrential rain here... The tertiary towel protection and the piggies are really feeling quite challenged.......This rain is meant to end before 3am...so only 70mins to go.Paws crossed xxx EDIT: Thinking of changing my user name from Piigige Palace to "Soggy Wet Towels"..LOL ...shades of Basil Faulty/Warty towels come to mind Anyway. off to bed now amidst some hefty gusts and whistlng in my double glazingxxxx
