  1. I've dealt with quite a few Giant House Spiders this week.... "spider season" is upon us as males wander looking for mates before Winter. Apparently on the link below Giant House Spiders don't live in Scotland, can anyone confirm this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Distribution.tegenaria.duellica.png
  2. Yep true and in Gibraltar their shortest day of the year in December is like a day in March day here, so by January the sun down there would feel like a late March day here. Judging by the "solar noon sun altitude" the sun soon get's strongish by late February and March till the scorching peak in June when I imagine you would burn very quickly. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=89&month=3&year=2013&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1
  3. Stood outside waiting ages for my ex-gf that day and don't think I ever felt so cold in my life stood in that wind, not even in December 2010!
  4. Epic end to September 2011, near perfect, warm or very warm sunny skies and low humidity May 2012 was also fantastic - pretty much the same as September 2011 with sunny skies, very warm and low humidity.
  5. For you coldies - 2 foot of snow in Milan 1985 - Imagine if this happened in London haha the chaos!
  6. Probably not it might flare up again there's time - hopefully a Bartlett strong pressure will give us a green Winter rather than a white one.
  7. Reminds me of that time last February when a lot of the charts were going for the mother of all easterlys but the Met Office sat on the fence right until it was supposed to happen. Most people in here thought we was going to get a January 1987 style freeze but it didn't happen.
  8. Was another chilly morning here this morning, but the indoors the house has stayed mild. 18.8c indoors which feels fine to me, obviously to some people that would feel a bit nippy in just a tshirt.
  9. So basically they expect the air to mainly originate more from the Continent this Autumn (which for a time is still mild), hopefully that will switch around by late October before things start to freeze over there and we get a different wind direction. Obviously the Met Office don't discount some Autumnal storms too so some Atlantic influence at times.
  10. This for me, January doesn't get much better than that. Not many layers of clothing needed. Positively balmy!
  11. It was the stuff of terrors for me! I was still waking up in April but with nightmares then I'd jump out of bed and peep out the window to see if there was any snow...... well no things didn't quite escalate that far
  12. I nearly fainted in fright in January 2010 at the sight almost a foot of snow, it was a rotten experience to wake up to, thoroughly unpleasant. Before I was wheelchair bound I used all the salt and sand at my disposal and gritted my whole street that day. Needless to say not one part of the street was salt free.
  13. There's definitely been less Autumn/Winter Atlantic storms here the last few years, we used to get slammed by gales and severe gales here often in NW England to the point where big fences and trees were blown down, even cars used to wobble. The lack of these storms seems to have coincided with those colder Winters.
  14. Nope not had it on yet still nice and comfortable indoors, I resisted last year until I couldn't feel my hands and feet in November, that's when I know it's time to switch it on lol
  15. Somewhere like Faro in Portugal, or Gibraltar are mostly mild throughout and very rarely cool, Gibraltar can hit 20 degrees in January. Plus with their southerly latitude the sun is much stronger than here even in December. Other than those two places nearly everywhere else can get a bit cool.
  16. I found last Winter to be thoroughly unpleasant at times, good job snow never lasted too long on the ground after the falls, they came and then gone but even so when you are sat in a wheelchair it can be a right pain having icy slushy wheels even just for a day. Leave the snow to Ben Nevis thank you.
  17. I'm in a wheelchair and I feel fine at around 18C indoors, I would imagine it depends on the person's needs and how they feel the cold. Some people feel the cold more than others.
