  1. it's been mild enough since late April to not have the heating on across 99% of the UK (if you're not a wimp that is, because unlike you I have the bottle to sit in 15c-18c indoors and not feel cold haha) you can do many outdoor activities all year round too considering we rarely have extreme weather in this country especially cold haha and where you are probably fares better overall than here, you're very low down and in the shadow of the Pennines so drier than here, and who said I won't be happy til March? if we get a mouthwatering Bartlett which is more likely than extreme cold we'll all be happy eh?
  2. Yes 1992 and 1993 were really rather chilly for October, I don't really remember the frosts as I was age 7 and 8 in those years. 1993 seen more or less a week of air frosts in a row at Manchester airport starting from the 14th with the lowest recorded -4.3c so a harsh frost that morning for October, must of been a white shock! http://www.tutiempo.net/en/Climate/Manchester_Airport/10-1993/33340.htm October 1992: http://www.tutiempo.net/en/Climate/Manchester_Airport/10-1992/33340.htm As seen October 1993 had 10 air frosts. October 1992 had 8 air frosts. Both certainly giving some mild Winter months a run for their money. October 1992 had colder max temps with a few days maxing at only 7c. Last time we had an October with a min temperature of -1c or below was October 2003, we had 3 in that month. http://www.tutiempo.net/en/Climate/Manchester_Airport/10-2003/33340.htm
  3. The Atlantic heavily moderates our climate all year round so we rarely see the extremes of hot or cold that is seen further to our east, basically the further away you are from the Atlantic in Europe the more extreme your temperatures usually are.
  4. Don't worry I don't because most of us know that mild weather is far more dominant over cold in this country and I can't see that changing unless this island suddenly crashes hundreds of miles into Europe.
  5. Haha don't worry yourself bud the cold will come eventually even though you sound frustrated. But the good thing is we live in a country that will NEVER be very cold for long - even in December 2010 we had a mild spell in the month. The milder weather will always reign supreme here thank fully thanks to that BIG ocean to the west. I live in a flat but a big one.
  6. Indoor temp has risen half a degree to 18.6c, is it really October? fantastic! and looks like things will not drop in a while I do wonder if the people on here who love cold and snow actually pay their own gas/electric bill? because let's face it heating costs are not cheap these days.
  7. That snow around the Ural mountains will be all gone by early next week it looks like temperatures returning to double figures in that areafurther east it will stay much colder
  8. You can't ask for much better than this - it's like payback time for the stunted Spring.
  9. Just before I go to bed it's bang on 18c in the bedroom, perfect really for sleeping, no need for the heating just yet.
  10. Yes for the coldies I bet the rest of the Winter was a huge let down. In fact February was very mild indeed.
  11. I think there's still plenty of warmth left in the tank yet. Thank fully.
  12. Still 18c indoors here, which to me is comfortable and no need for the heating on. It was certainly cooler in here this time last year but even then I resisted putting the heating on until November.
  13. Sennen Cove in Cornwall is fantastic, went here this year, incredibly clean beach and water
  14. Good to see high pressure just to the south of the UK, hopefully this will be a trend in the not too distant future....
  15. What fantastic strong pressure this was pushing down on us all, it kept any snow well away from the UK
  16. I think coldies are going to be disappointed this Winter and lots of toys thrown from prams, at this stage looking a 2001-02 style Winter with a chilly December but not severe and a wet and mild January and February.
  17. Another ideal climate for me would be the Northern Chile coast - somewhere like the city of Arica which averages only 0.76mm per year, so it basically doesn't really rain at all, and it is never cold either http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arica#Climate
  18. Sheffield is rather snowy, especially the western part of the city at an elevated position. The A57 road is often blocked by snow in Winter from Sheffield all the way to Glossop.
  19. You'll definitely have a coastal impact to your weather in your location especially with night time and morning temperatures - you have to be about 30 miles inland to not feel the force of the coastal effect, you won't record temperatures as low as places like York or Selby for example under the same weather conditions.
  20. Strange thing is lower ground is colder when there is deep snow cover and clear skies, on a normal day like today the higher ground is a bit colder (about 1c colder per 100 metres in elevation) but for some weird reason the valley's take over during the coldest spells. Obviously the higher you go the more it snows and rains but it's not always colder. http://www.weatheron...rost-hollow.htm
  21. I think Shetland has the worst climate in the UK, hardly ever warm at all. It's like a jacket or coat all year round.
  22. I think that's a bit OTT lol, to be fair most places a good way inland near a river valley can record very low temperatures, actually Altnaharra's weather station is near the bank of a river and only 81m asl. Hence why it can get so cold there and is classed as a frost hollow, I bet if it was moved somewhere away and higher up from that location it would read warmer. Obviously other factors being closer to cold upper air masses counts too. England tends to do better from easterly's due to be being a bit further east than most of Scotland, closest to the coldest uppers from the bitter continent, and with less sea track than Scotland, Even here I am as far east as Aberdeen. The snow can hugely mount up in places like the North York Moors and even where you are too in the right set up, in these set ups Scotland tends to be closer to the High Pressure block so the snow can peter out.. Whereas Scotland and Wales fare better from northerlies - the Cairngorms in Scotland and Snowdonia in Wales get the snow with those winds. It's funny though because before 2008 Scotland used to always get the snow and got much more of it, but now since the colder Winters England has really give them a run for the money.
  23. Moscow and Kiev rather chilly. Hopefully it stays over there.
  24. I bet somewhere got a couple degrees lower than that where there wasn't a weather station, probably even beat Altnaharra's record. Wouldn't it be ironic if the lowest temperature in the UK ever was actually in England and not Scotland.....but obviously unobserved. I think it is certainly possible
