  1. Whilst trying to get my head back into what could be happening next week and understanding what the latest NAE said picked up Nick F comments .. Interesting as I wondered what had happened to the Channel Low which the ECM had identified on 16 jan to bring snow to the south west.. Anyway here is nicks comments about an hour ago.. Had to copy as using my iPhone and don't know the other way to link to the post.. "Still, alot of wintry weather to get through before then. Lots of snow showers across NE England and E Scotland today, snow flurries elsewhere. Low pressure system drifting NE over France this weekend pulls a back bent occlusion north across E England tomorrow, bringing further snow northwards Sunday PM. Then on Monday, snow across E England drifts NW across N England and Scotland. Then another trough disruption take place to the SW of the UK, sending a low east up the English Channel - which threatens rain, sleet and snow across southern Britain - though uncertainties over how far south the snow line will be, hopefully just the coastal fringes seeing rain/sleet. Then perhaps another low drifting east across southern Britain on Tuesday, bringing further sleet and snow across England and Wales. Though pretty much everywhere likely to see some snow at some point over the next 4 days. Edited by Nick F, 38 minutes ago. Quote"
  2. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21095132 BBC confirming pretty much what we have been discussing on here or rather the forum hosts and more experienced members on here in that today more snow prob for northern parts of GB with snow flurries further south ( which Newbury has as I type). There is a suggestion here that it is considered for now that the South East corner will be the focus tomorrow. .... Ill wait n see what comments are made on here when the next models are out.. Hope the snow doesn't melt too much today ( there was signs of a little melt yesterday ) and most can get out to enjoy it.. Great day yesterday I hope it wasn't the last of this winter .
  3. I do.. And you will get some soon .. There are more chances on the way for you.
  4. When I went for a walk ther was some melting...sides of roads in the channels, also I can see it a little on my road at the junction in the tyre tracks. rather than being compacted white is it brown and slightly slushy, Not massively and as we draw to evening I suspect this will freeze again. Interestingly too there were a few iceicles on some cars ...think this was were they had been driven and warmed up and then parked up again with the water freezing as it dripped off. Hmm lets see what happens next few days... could be interesting.
  5. Maybe listen to the posts and watch BBC breakfast... Hmm considering it is falling near Rushhour these warnings are bang on..
  6. Snowing hard in Newbury... Starting to give a covering on the ground..
  7. Yup we have light snow falling in Newbury... Confirmed via the lamppost... :-D
  8. Well an email tonight from the chairman at work saying significant snow due tomorrow so make sure for some you take work home. Good heh? I am impressed. Then following that someone mailed heavy snow falling near m4 junction 15 at Swindon... Going to be interesting!
  9. Starting to snow on m3 near junction 4. Cloud thick and looking west has started to develop that pink tinge. Doesn't surprise me ot wants to kick off early ...
  10. Thanks divadee ... And agreed .. Echoes my post last night re elderly neighbours and relatives.. Milk bread and knowing to contact someone.. I boughten parents some salt so they don't slip on their paths as they do like to get out ! Can't stress it enough peeps... Please check on them or make yourself known ...
  11. Apart from a few days before Christmas, the end of a hideous working week that I find myself wishing I could fast forward a few hours and days.. To the next model run output. Not a good mindset to be in to wish your life away I agree as you should live every moment. I don't think I am the only one though surely? Can't wait til what tomorrow morning and the buzz ( hopefully ) tomorrow. Have learnt soo much already just from these few days reading the forum. No 1 is though read what is said on here by the regulars and the mods. Here's to tomorrow ( yes I have been at the beer so apologies for the gushing) .. And seeing you all here whichever way the ppn falls to... The west or the east.. Pb. Ps last time I looked Halfords had some salt grit bags in stock and sainsburys some snow shovels at about a fiver.
  12. While we are on the subject of heavy snow potential and ensuring you have supplies may I also suggest you touch base with elderly relatives and neighbours .. They tend not to look at websites and understand warnings.... Just a thought...
  13. Hi Jonesye hope you all set for Friday? ... Should be interesting. An debating popping to the lock stock and watching it descend over the kennet with a glass! Just hoping the models are still on top form tomorrow and not feeling downgraded...
  14. Well the nw extra radar is showing it as snow as it moves over Wales.. How much, it's intensity and longevity I wouldn't know..
  15. Well temps reached approx -4 last night so confirming that "entrenched cold " has arrived. BBC weather taken a bold step this morning both nationally and locally on south today outlining "significant snow " for Friday.... Hmm. So what happens of it turns mainly to rain?
  16. post that on the north east regional thread and I can bet the response. "Ard" may feature in some.
  17. Hmm I think the current temp has dropped further already tonight to nearing -3 already . Anyone else had another temp drop?
  18. yep good observation there. Same here as well as a further decrease in temps. My fear is though it is still such a long way off and really it won't be until Friday morning we won't really know exactly what we will be dealing with and where. ..
  19. Hmm interesting times ahead....perhaps (if milder air doesnt nip on in) .. and the south east has a warning too for Friday according to Met.. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/?regionName=se Issued at: 1233 on Tue 15 Jan 2013 Valid from: 0900 on Fri 18 Jan 2013 Valid to: 2355 on Fri 18 Jan 2013 As the weather breaks down, there is the potential for a spell of snow to spread from the southwest. As winds strengthen, blizzard conditions are a possibility, especially over high ground. Accumulations of 2-5 cm are possible quite widely and in some locations, especially higher ground, 15 cm are possible. The public should be aware of the possibility of travel disruption. This warning is likely to be updated over the next few days.
  20. Morning all from Newbury. Quiet and dry night and I think temps just kept above freezing. Just seen BBC breakfast weather and I think ( still half a sleep) she mentioned maybe some development that they were keeping eye on from Wednesday . I assume she may have been referring to Friday cos I don't recall anything being discussed for Wednesday....? Edit: carol was referring to Friday. Having watched it again she said "Friday is giving us a headache"....
