  1. All sounds very promising ssib.. All eyes to the sky and lamposts. Although my ears are telling me by the pitter patter in my sheltered window we have plenty of rain currently falling in newbury. I am on mobile so can't see where you are located in your post. I hope though slightly south of me....
  2. Go on dare you to give the mod discussion thread your view of that ppn line from a "sit on the fence" perspective .. :-)
  3. Thanks Sonnia. May have a peek-hopefully too they are all still being good.
  4. Yep I drove through that rather large cell on the m4. Definitely some sleet in that heavy ppn as well as some pinkness to the cloud north of me. Quite a potent cell. I don't think though that has helped the very swollen rivers and flooded fields. There is a fair bit of flooding already in Berkshire Yep I drove through that rather large cell on the m4. 5. Re OCC don't blame the council really. Must admit when it was still snowing at midday I saw a fair few gritters in small rural roads still doing their job... Good peeps.
  6. Well what a surprise I had today with the snow. Left the coast at 11am in torrential rain heading for south oxon .. Phoned my friend to tell her that the vms signs on m27 were talking about an accident and so she may want to take a different route then she told me that they had a couple of cm of snow... And didn't I have any.. Sure enough got to south oxon and there was a decent layer of snow. From about 5miles out of Newbury south there was no snow just heavy rain... Most most surprised. Nice surprise even though wet snow the fields with the sun later this eve looked gorgeous... Very very wet and flooded roads as it melted but I suspect treacherous tomorrow.. BBC weather now indicating some further snow potential midlands at higher level and maybe some lower levels tonight Spoke to my dad about the snow and he said I keep telling people snow isnt unusual in march and it has happened many times before.. Bless him.. When we think last year we had so much dry weather and it really affect the growing of various crops later. This weather for some now is apparently good and gets goodness into the ground ready for spring... Apparently .
  7. I think we are fine where we are . As scentralers we can sit on the fence and be on both sides of the camp lol.... I like the regional threads ...
  8. Yep prob cos there was no point putting any down as it wouldn't do anything and is a waste. Plus they may struggle to get the grittier through too. Once it stops they will be out clearing and gritting using all the supplies they couldn't use last night and more.. But seriously the grit won't do anything so they won't put any down. It is the snows fault people got stuck not the gritters!! Common sense really. Pleased you got home though safely and I do hope you have a fabulous snow day .... Take loads of photos.
  9. People.... Sorry to hear you have had difficulty getting home but pleased for you you got lots of the white stuff... Just a comment on the gritting.... You won't see any evidence as in heavy snow it won't do anything!!! And alas snow ploughs won't be standing ready in abundance for this one off event which the south east may or may not have because of cost... Don't think it would go down too well in a city if they bought a couple more ploughs one year and cut from say the subsidised bus service or couldn't do more pot holes... Maybe there wouldn't be so much of a queue perhaps if so many didn't decide to drive and took heed of the warnings in the morning? ..... Maybe? When in was heavy in Newbury this year alot more took heed of the weather warnings and were told to go home earlier and then work at home.... Sorry for the rant but it is always someone's else faults and no one stops to think why... Hope you all have a great day playing in the snow today... Enjoy!! Don't drive and wear sensible shoes!!
  10. Just seen BBC news and they had Cheryl baker in there who has been stuck all night somewhere and who is calling it a Fiasco as no one has been out to grit or rescue them. What planet are some people on. And as she said "knew about the snow " why n earth did they decide to drive to rescue their kids last night... How thick are people ? Grit won't do a thing in heavy snow and with the cuts governments can't just have a load of snow ploughs standing by costing millions for that one off snow event.. Grrrhh. ( interestingly one chap just now also stuck on the M23 coming from Bognor did just say it was bad when he left Bognor and he should have stayed there...)
  11. It is really good to read these posts and those having snow.. Just stay safe peeps and please don't drive if you can.. What we should also note is the temps and the wind chill or feels like. Today was raw and I haven't felt that for a while. Temps dropping past -3 already here in Newbury and a wind chill of upto -8 now with -11 on the cards. I can still hear the odd gust and I live in a very sheltered part of Newbury That level of cold is significant in my books in terms of the coldest this winter ( although I know meteologically it is over and we are in spring). I certainly didn't expect that for march. So the other main concern will be the ice and icy surfaces . Gritters will wait until the snow starts to ease and once they get the chance will be clearing and gritting main routes and those on hospital links like mad. You may therefore not get your avenue gritted if it isn't such a key link so be prepared for that and accept it. please rethink taking your car out tomorrow... Please... Work at home or walk if you can.. Let the emergency services get to those who didn't put themselves at risk in the first place and will need it more than you.
  12. Lots of snow there! Stay safe peeps.. Just a quick one though you won't see gritters as the salt and grit won't have any effect with the amount of snow falling..... It would be pointless . When it starts to ease off they will grit to get it melt. People needs to heed to the warnings and not drive..
  13. You stay safe cf.. As I said I wouldn't he surprised if you start getting power cuts only in that it doesn't take much down there for them to happen! Told my parents to stay inside..
  14. I don't think the gritters can do much with this snow if it still falling ...
  15. Not sure when this was issued but I see the south coast east of Chichester is now under an orange warning .. Stay safe peeps. Keep those phones charged and get the torches ready I wouldn't be surprised if there will power cuts tonight ...
  16. Hey Fitzwiz. Be prepared for alot more! BBC news just mentioned that all schools closed in jersey. You have a snow day! Mind you the feel like temps look biting for you so wrap up... -8!! Brrrhhhhh
  17. A few flakes blowing in the wind here in Newbury .. Only detectable by my security light mind ..
  18. cf.. Hello my friend.. Enjoy all the snow coming your way and Sussex is south central... Am with you on that.akpoolshark is just getting a wee overexcited cos of all this snow talk... As my mum says... Just showing off! Wink ... I have told my parents to not go out tomorrow.. (Chichester).. As very cold. Funny thing is my bro is due back to Boggas from Norway this week.. Think it'll be warmer back in Norway. He'll be surprised when he gets off that train..lol!
  19. I have a friend in Dulwich who likes to BBQ everything.. Yep even in winter . In fact that was our New Year's Eve dinner .. He has just reported on Facebook he has lit the BBQ.. And then another post proclaiming "snow" ... So snow now in London peeps!
  20. All the warning emails to local authorities have been churning out across the south coast I bet today.. And for all the LA winter maintenance crews out there despite what some people say when they can't be bothered to look after their own driveway and blame the council... You all do do a great job!...
  21. Must be some sferics in the channel as I am getting thunderstorm alerts from the isleofwightweather station.. Anyone can verify where this maybe ?
  22. Hmm coast that does look interesting. I can see why she was very animated. . Certainly wish I was my parents in Chichester tonight. All eyes on the bouys in the channel later?. And that shipping forecast?. May have to get that radio on to hear the forecast this time... Gives that extra atmosphere. Although which radio channel it will be on I can't remember... Think it was four x
