  4. I suspect he was referring to that squall line... Calmed a bit now.. Rain is more heavier..
  5. We are up to nearly 50mph gusts now in last ten mins.. A have friends saying they are walking their dog in a mo... Told em No!!
  6. Seems to be quietening down here which means I can go back to sleep! I think that was it for us. I am quite pleased really it wasn't as bad as it could have been for me. Selfish I know. Sorry.
  7. . Go to wunderground website and find your nearest weather station. You just put in your town. There are usually hourly data readings for some if you look in detail.
  8. Ok local station has just shown a 61km per hour gust in Newbury. Increasing gusts and am hearing these too. 38 mph is a far amount for us inlanders. Goodness knows what the coast is like?
  9. It's a bit noisy here in Newbury. Some far old gusts.. Woke me up. am going to make a cuppa me thinks then ill check the local weather station.
  10. Well peeps time for sleep for me.. All this forum watch has exhausted me. I doubt the storm whatever strength it is will wake me, do to those of you who stay up. Enjoy the evening and play nicely. If it is alot less severe we are all winners in my book.
  11. Hi the Pit , this buoy off Cornwall has the pressure as falling rapidly...http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=62107Oh my look at the graph it is falling rapidly..http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/show_plot.php?station=62107&meas=pres&uom=E&time_diff=0&time_label=GMT
  12. Hello fello newburyian! Yep I moved my car too from near a tree too and tidied the garden. See what the morrow brings heh.
  13. We are not other countries..so you can't compare And whilst you may think they all carry on; some don't. They also have far different budgets, infrastructure, culture, laws etc.. Etc etc..etcNow back to the weather It is so still out there at the moment? Anyone else have the same?
  14. Don't know if you have noticed cyclonic happiness times are slightly different than the blitz. So whilst I get the spirit to carry on notion there are a few more subtle differences. I think the rail companies are being sensible and putting people's safety first. Imagine if they didn't and there was an incident? Doesn't bear thinking about. It will be case of let's wait n see. This is Mother Nature and she will do what she wants to do..and we need to respect her. Deep down we all would be better to be forwarned. And if it isn't severe if as first thought? So what.
  15. .... And then sweeping you out to sea . Very sensible. Some poor fireman or coast guard then has to risk his life for saving yours. Stay inside!
  16. Think they knew some would throw up some variants even this close to the timings so this is to be expected. It probably won't be known what the exact track really is until it is upon us. Hence all the caveats on alerts regarding tracking south.I know some of you want a storm and someone yesterday were after collateral damage. I like a good storm like the rest of us while we are on here however I want this thing now to go south to miss uk.. Id rather have egg on my face from my friends than a tree through the roof.
  17. Ok.. It is pretty gusty now out there and I can hear that now. These gusts will be tame compared to tomorrow and so I am feeling slightly nervous being in my new house and all. So the noises will be strange to me. And yes this is inland. The only ever time I heard strong winds at night was yes you guessed it 1987. I remember waking up for five mins wondering who was smashing plates outside and then went back to sleep! Next morn Dad apparently was up half the night listening to it and tiles coming off the roof. He said he saw our old Christmas tree which was as big as the house almost bending in half from the wind. It survived as did our house but the tree got cut down shortly after. ... I digressed I know I am sorry but this does take me back a little.
  18. Sorry to hear that ch.. That is not very nice at all. Best you get that iPod ready for Sun night Snd some lovely peaceful music.
  19. Squall line west of Swindon ATM.. Imminent on the next half hour to Newbury would you say?
  20. They used to with me but after I warned about the snow event they now ask me for the updates and what the weather will be!!
  21. http://metro.co.uk/2013/10/26/stay-inside-public-warned-as-overwhelming-storm-to-hit-england-and-wales-at-worst-time-possible-4161864/ Metro being sensible unlike other tabloids...
  22. Hear hear GTLTW.. Best thing all ye folks on here today watching the updates is to warn friends and families and make them not travel if they can. I have told my yard and they have got things prepped tomorrow. All ponies will be brought in Sunday night. My little thing was bringing the recycling bins into the garage!
