Ah first post of the day.. . Snow has definitely gone with last nights rain here in Newbury.. Looks to be a dark cloudy damp morning... Near me recordings are Temp around 3deg. Dp 2deg. Not raining at mo but 18mm daily ppn.... Not raining currently but I see that main big beast of a band has passed and is well out east into the North Sea ... However wont be long I suspect before it starts.. Just when I pick up my new and first commuting bike.. How exciting! I have never had a new bike .. Only second hand or skip rescued beasts! So I will be testing it in the rain! ;( ..... Boo edit... Wow just after I posted the above my MetOffice forecast has told me We will now have sunshine today .., amazing .. How nice will it be to the see the sun..

Morning GTLTW ! Well the walk to the train station was far easier than yesterday and there is no doubt a thaw in place..still slightly snowing but nothing to have an effect. I understand that milder air is due to get its way this weekend so I suspect the lovely magical covering wont be here for much longer..? So beautiful looking at Narnia out of the window of the train ..

As per my MetOffice app we have moved from heavy snow to light.. Looking at the radar I think we are treated to a break. I suspect really that is all the snow now for us in Newbury. The main heavier ppn seems pivoting around Somerset and Devon as rightly suggested by Ian F. Am happy though a nice wee covering to top us up. All this weather watching has made me so very sleepy so on that note I bid you all good night ..sleep tight. Edit .. Maybe more moderate snow than light... According to the lamppost

Well MetOffice tellse heavy snow still to be had at 9pm so I'm going to refrain from looking outside til then and see just how right it is .... Naughty I know but why not. I may be proved wrong.. What luxury to at least test the theory... Hope those that are still trying to get home though do so soon and safely.

Hooray train on time and I am on my way home! Wonder what will lay in wait for me when I get to Newbury! Left as GTLTW suggested I ought to and I did warn a few colleagues that they ought to think about moving those that were driving . Some just laughed at me.... However when I left the office at 1730 and it started to snow I did hear one colleague who was driving and normally stays late stay "hmm think I will make a move" ... Good old southwest and south central thread.. We may have prevented one long arduous journey home for at least one person...

Thanks GTLTW I went by train so dont have to drive...I best keep an eye on the train situation first (if there is no snow here they wont really take kindly to me going!). But if you would be so kind to let me know if there is settling snow at Newbs I can then leg it. I have the forum page up all the time!

The ppn seems up be moving a direct nne according to the radar meaning passing out some 25 miles plus to the west off Newbury. So no chance for us.. Swindon could be lucky though,. Very cold night here instead and ice looks rife. Be careful all when you go out this morning. No matter how you travel. :-)

oh I dunno i thought her forecast was a little more progressive for south central.. At least she tried to explain and said there was uncertainty but there could be 2 to 5cm outside of the south west. I think she did a good job. -

They always annoy me apart from Carol on BBC breakfast. They seem to put anyone on there reading a script and not really understanding the weather. Ian ferguson is the other exception who never annoys me. The reports on BBC tonight were really unclear . The only clear bit was the heavy snow up narf..not really a forecast but a nowcast.. Snow up north.. Really? Is that cos IT IS snowing.. Do they listen to MetOffice? -

"There is no confidence in exact locations, exact accumulations, exact intensity or exact duration at this present time. It will most likely come down to radar watching tomorrow. The threat of some significant snowfall somewhere around the West Country is there, further details than that are too hard to say with any great deal of confidence at this stage. I would advise not to take TV forecasts, Met Office warnings and model output with to much precision at this stage as things are likely to change right up to T+0." Lovely jubbly that means that Berkshire could have some potential ....or not. Wait and See game begins from late tonight. -
I tried to getting neighbour out yesterday to go to the cinema and she thought it was too treacherous to walk five mins in.. ( young girl too) then I asked her if she wanted to come into town for a coffee today again a five minute walk. No she wants to stay in... I don't get it.. I so wish I had a sledge.. I'd be down that nearby slope with the others at the age of 43 in a flash ..!

yup definitely snowing again here GTLTW and a slight covering now... Cleared all the snow off the car yesterday and it is getting covering it again.. Reports too of snowing in Chichester although I suspect it is light.
