1. I should say whilst I think a range of 2-5cms is reaosnable for most I suspect most places will be very much on the top end of that scale, so much so that probably 4-7cms is a better representation and I don't doubt that some places in this region will get a good deal more, but we have to nowcast this event.

what do you reckon for Chi then Kold weather - my home town - you always though seems to be protected from the south downs....

  2. I cant measure the wind speeds but I know they have picked up the gusts are now bending the trees woohooooooooooo bring it on im so excited

yeah i cant but I checked the thatcham weather station and it does appear to have increased. It also identifies the temperature as uncomfortably cold! Uk wind map shows north easterley to easterly winds ...perfect.

  3. I can confirm snow grains are blowing in the wind in Witney.

A surprise to say the least. Have now been tasked in trying to find the kids sledge!

...it may then have to be the tin tray from B and Q if no luck? ...Alot more windier here now and I dont tink there is any snizzle anymore - I must go and check some sites of the speeds etc...wonder if the south coast it has picked up?

  4. Would have thought Newbury is still C sthrn and as you say Oxford is only 30 minutes away. It's going to be tasty on the A34 and M40 in the morning I think. Iv'e got to try and get to work at Heathrow tomorrow, although hoping I can just take the day off and go down by the Thames with me camera

OOh yes A34 and M40 would be a treat heh..lets hope yes day off. I have been meaning to get a camera for ages. think id better get one asap today! doesnt matter which type now!! ..back to snow has the wind picked up in Oxf aswell...or is it just me? ...ooh and while writing this the snizzle is now more like snow flurries..

i noticed it too, i live in somerset on the west wilts boarder and it was only breath of wind up 9.30 now it getting gusty, bitter wind!! no snow yet, may get afew grains later

Good I wasnt hearing things..yes think you will be in for some grains as well soon I hope... :)

  5. a colleague has some weather recording instruments and told me it recorded a max gust this morning of 113mph. He lives near Fleet I believe. 10 mm of rain. There was I recall a massive gust at about 6.30 this morning as it did coincide with my alarm. I am in Oxford. I would like to see a path of the recorded gusts if it was possible to collate...would be interesting. Well done to the NW team again. Always on the ball ... :nonono:

  6. Here in Oxford, I have the central heating  on and it feels like autumn. Temps are 13 degrees c and 81 per cent humidity. Wish I knew mph of wind gusts but in last ten mins these were giving a good blow?...can anyone help me?...ooh but strangely just this second it has gone very very quiet..dark yes but then it is 21.40 hrs..or should it still be quite light.......

  7. ...words out of my mouth..interstingly the huge concrete building is left standing..but the residents homes poor souls which are made out of timber...timber I ask you? ...Come on American Government look after your people and build better homes for them or at least give these guys some grants to help build better shelters.....that would should be high on the environmental gender.....poor poor souls. my thoughts are with you...
In 'Tornado Alley' would'nt you think that dwellings should by law have storm protection ie bunker,.. yes a whole life-time can pass without any need to take shelter, but having the assurance of protection would put so many people at ease.. so c'mon America (Government) you have the wealth ,do something about it..!!! And with GW ,storms are predicted to become more frequent and amplyfied !!

  8.
Any updates on this storm esp for NYC

..hi, dont know any weather specifics but i do know from a friend out there that it startd snowin at 1930 hrs in nyc. dont hav any other info than that..oh and that they all expecting (Via local media) pretty much what is written above. i e finish by thursday etc. hope that helps :-)

  9. Something that was different for me was that here on the coast we had a surprise snow for Wednesday morning, nothing spectacular, but it hung around for most of the day and my boys could go sledging !!

But it was the 2nd phase which was 'nearly' different.

There was a chance that we would of had more snow Wednesday night Thursday morning as well.

Which as I can remember is unusual in recent years.

The 2nd phase never really materialised with only a 'sugar coating' but how long since we have experienced a decent snowfall without a major thaw only to experience a phase 2 event ??

I can remember it happening in the late 70's here in Sussex with some real snow only to be topped up with more snow........great times !!

    Regards

    Matt

just quickly...I would concur with you every step of the way....I am a sussex borne and bred girl...Mum Dad said exactly that the other morning..tis been thirty years when it last snowed to such a simialr quantity.
