Become a hurricane within hours/mins even, have a little belly flop, re-organise and continue due west. High pressure to the north and low to the south will make sure she continues westward. Remember too, the confidence on the initial track is very high ( S.Texas - Houston). I stick with that.
EDIT: Indeed now Hurricane Rita. 78 knots reported in NW Quad. Hurricane hunters say so!

Tbh Bilz, many are already asking why she hasn't been made up to Hurricane status already. Someone from TWS mentions she should have been upgraded to Hurricane Rita 18 hours ago

Mondy,
it is so very confusing..I am convinced that the BBC website had her down as hurricane rita this morning - although I cant be sure - now BBC say she is TS.

Ok. A lot being talked about Miami bracing itself for a Cat 1 or 2 as Rita gathers speed and formation. Found a nice little streaming webcam of the beach (and a cafe - looks a busy place)! Miami Beach Storm Watch

Should be upgraded soon to Hurricane Rita.
Already hurricane watches in effect along the Florida Keys and mass evacuations to take place.
Think this hurri will be around for a good time yet. Expected to reach Cat2 strength as it approaches the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Then, it's a free for all as to where she makes landfall. Some models suggest Texas, Louisiana or even New Orleans area.
As posted on the TD 18 thread, here's some links to webcams and TV feeds
Recon plane due to fly in to the storm soon..

Another ickle rumble of thunder in Reading, still raining, but no downpoor now and it seems to be passing over with little effort. (no more lightning)
-
Oxford, had snow, but very wet. Settled only a little on the grass, hills etc, still snowing but fine and wet. Reading, no evidence of snow at all!!
-
Sun has just come out again in Reading slightly cloudy to the north and west, but alas no sign of any snow and am very doubtful. Am envious of you guys in the north with the snow.
Hurricane Rita.

Ah ha finally the BCC website now has changed her to Hurricane Rita - she was still Tropical Storm when I last looked yesterday
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/extreme_weather.shtml
Shame they haven't updated the satellite picture though. come on BBC, sort it out. Have to say though from reading the progression of Rita from the posts (which are all good incidentallly) since logging off yesterday afternoon, and whilst we as weather enthusiasts love a storm- I am really starting to want her to ease up a bit now before she hits land and creates havoc. Mother Nature is definatley not looking impressed at the mo.
