  1. Ah ha finally the BCC website now has changed her to Hurricane Rita - she was still Tropical Storm when I last looked yesterday

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/extreme_weather.shtml

Shame they haven't updated the satellite picture though. come on BBC, sort it out. Have to say though from reading the progression of Rita from the posts (which are all good incidentallly) since logging off yesterday afternoon, and whilst we as weather enthusiasts love a storm- I am really starting to want her to ease up a bit now before she hits land and creates havoc. Mother Nature is definatley not looking impressed at the mo.

  2. Become a hurricane within hours/mins even, have a little belly flop, re-organise and continue due west. High pressure to the north and low to the south will make sure she continues westward. Remember too, the confidence on the initial track is very high ( S.Texas - Houston). I stick with that.

EDIT: Indeed now Hurricane Rita. 78 knots reported in NW Quad. Hurricane hunters say so!

thanks Mondy, a nice summary to keep me up to speed and in laymans engliDoh a dumb swear filter got the better of me

  3. Tbh Bilz, many are already asking why she hasn't been made up to Hurricane status already. Someone from TWS mentions she should have been upgraded to Hurricane Rita 18 hours ago :)

    Mondy,

it is so very confusing..I am convinced that the BBC website had her down as hurricane rita this morning - although I cant be sure - now BBC say she is TS.

good overview of her location too from this. what do you think she will do tonight?

  4. Should be upgraded soon to Hurricane Rita.

Already hurricane watches in effect along the Florida Keys and mass evacuations to take place.

Think this hurri will be around for a good time yet. Expected to reach Cat2 strength as it approaches the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Then, it's a free for all as to where she makes landfall. Some models suggest Texas, Louisiana or even New Orleans area.

As posted on the TD 18 thread, here's some links to webcams and TV feeds
