  1. You had warmer upper air moving in when you had the freezing rain over there. Was an ice skating rink in Lincoln too. With no warmer upper at the moment and the temperature still dropping along with the dew point I would be surprised if it rained..Ian Ferguson has much more data at his disposal than we ever see here on the internet so what he said has to be taken seriously. Likewise I have warned those I know - with the caveat that if we are lucky it may fall as rain but best be prepared. Better than seeing people stuck with no bread or milk because they did not know what may happen...
  2. It's clouded over here with the temperature at 2C and falling with the dew point -0.4 - what comes out if that does not rise will be snow.....
  3. I have often been told about the snowfalls that left the valleys cut off for weeks. Before I moved here. Always wondered what it must have been like. Looking like we are about to find out. laughs.....
  4. Looking at the latest it seems us here in upper Valleys are going to get buried. This could be the worse snowfall here for very many years with none going anywhere for days after this starts falling. Must admit we went out and done a full shop today so we are prepared. But a hell of a shocker to see that we may get up to 50cm - that is over 19 inches - without the drifting. This could be an interesting ride...
  5. Happy days -Yes but you are only talking about 70 odd miles. The charts are not set in stone - and even the day before they cannot predict the exact course of the low - or just how far the cold will be to this degree. We can only get an idea of how far south the snow will be. But - even if the rain turns to snow in North Wales and gives a dumping - that will move South and effect the whole of Wales in the output the next day. New year looks to me to be something I do not want as I want to go over a mountain to friends. My bet is for the snow to be too deep to even think about it. As said in a previous post though - I am expecting an upgrade tomorrow when the missing data is filled in....
  6. There is data missing at the moment because of the Christmas period. Why not wait till the charts come out tomorrow before passing a firm opinion? Myself I tend to think when the gfs and ecm come out tomorrow they will throw up something completely different to today. Just of course my opinion. I don't want snow - but if that is what we get we get it - but the bickering is silly - at the end of the day we are only looking at charts and trying to figure out which way the WEATHER is going to effect us. Looking at everything at the moment my guess is there is going to be more cold than we want by the middle of winter - anyone want to pay my heating bills.
  7. Cloudy showery start after overnight rain will clear to sunny intervals. Temperature a mild 17C with reports of many heading for the beach. Complaints no ice cream vans to be seen anywhere.
  8. If you'd like I'll pull up some images from the Weddell Sea where Larsen B used to reside so you can see a sight not witness for over 12,000yrs, the melting back of the sea ice to the coast, all thanks to global warming. And there it is. It has happened before. The earth has been warmer than the present day. It will one day cool. And then warm again. And hey. It will not mean the end of the world - or man - if it warms a little. But if it was to become an ice age - that my friend would be the end of man or society as we know it. Warming has happened before. Apart from that there are many reasons why the ice in places is melting. For instances there are places where it is in fact colder now than before - yet ice loss has accelerated. There are a lot of things about the mechanics you or I do not understand - and as one small variable can make a huge difference - we can only speculate. But as ever I am always interested in ice loss - and ice expansion.....
  9. I thought this was an Antarctic ice report page - not a page about Global warming. Isn't there a thread for Global warming? I would have thought facts are all what is required - and not politics!!!"!!!
  10. I just done a simple google search on Granton, spey and there are pages of info.....
  11. To be honest after the complete lousy summer we have had I would welcome an extraordinatry, exceptional hot September. Summer in Autumn - bring it on.... B)
  12. And yet every heatwave - every year above average is announced as through global warming. It has long been apparent that pro GW will announce every event as proof of such. Even if we entered an ice age next century they would say it is prrof of nothing and it is still warming....
  13. September: The first two weeks mainly dominated by high pressure so plenty of sun and warm days - but cold nights. From then becoming unsettled and cooler at times with much rain including thunder at times. October: Wet and wild but a warm spell (an indian summer perhaps) as high pressure ridges from the azores for about five days. Rainfall above average and temperatures about average. There will however be some widespread frosts - an unusual feature for October nowadays.. November: Starting foggy and damp before becoming unsettled in the first two weeks. Snow in November as cold weather moves down from the north. The month ends cold with some sharp frosts....
  14. A high pressure system over the uk. What a wonderful thought to have a high pressure system over the UK all winter. Sunshine by day with cold frosty nights. Beats the mild and drizzle with low cloud we suffer for endless weeks here.....
  15. Only one problem there. Many parts of Lapland are having record warm temps. In fact snow is melting fast and in some parts all but gone. Never mind the igloo or ice palace it will be bbq's there...
  16. There have been some high winds in Barrow that I suspct was the cause for some of the sea ice breaking. However with a temp of -16c a short while ago it would be all but impossible for the snow to turn to slush....
  17. Just to add welcome back carinthian. I don't post on this thread but like many avidly read your reports. They are to me very interesting and it is good that someone with your expertise takes the time to post on this forum….
  18. Well said. Sums it up well. If people can't be bothered to take their rubbish home they won't give a toss about anything or anyone but themselves....
  19. It is rubbish to say we cannot adapt to a changing climate. Since when has the climate been stable? How do we cope when we fly off to Greece, Spain, Turkey or some other hot tropical shore for our holidays? Do the locals in them hot spots drop dead with heat every year? Of course not. We may have a climate more akin to the Med in years to come but there will be a lot of ups. Less old folk dying because of the cold. Tourism on the up. Lower fuel bills because of a warmer climate. A much longer growing season - Ok we will be growing different produce. To say its all doom is complete tosh…
  20. Sounds about right. Seems some people are only happy when they are trying to create panic. I agree a warmer UK would be good for us. It's not all gloom and doom...
  21. Interesting one this one isn't it. Although I tend to think after all this cool weather we have had that summer will be a wash out I also tend to remember Spring 1976 that was no great shakes either. Often wet and cool. In fact many areas had snow on June 1st that year. Then we had the best summer we have ever had. Could there be a repeat?
  22. Clouded over now with the anticyclonic gloom. Current temp 6.3c. Dry though overcast. Humidity 93%. Barometer 1028mb and steady.
  23. Clear and sunny today, but with a biting wind. Current temp 3.3c Humidity 91% Barometer 1034mb steady.
  24. Cold with sleet here in the South Wales valleys. current temp 3.3c. Humidity 98% and barometer 1018mb.
  25. Current temp 9.8c Barometer 1013mb steady Humidity 92% Wind Strong and very gusty. Not too much in the way of rain for a change today. Just an odd glimse of the sun.
