  1. Completely mad temperature, outside now is 21C 8.30 am in the middle of October
  2. Have to agree that the radar seems to be showing more snow than expected. MetOffice and Beeb seem to have slightly adjusted their forecast but both predict it stopping before 10PM
  3. Snowed heavily for around 20 mins easing off a bit now but still falling
  4. Moderate snow in Canterbury from the blob coming off the channel. Not sure it will lay at it is 1.5C , though the ground is either covered in snow or dry..
  5. I think there are 2 other issues here. Firstly a lot of people get their weather forecast from the BBC and they use Meteo who's forecasts are often rubbish yet use MetOffice weather warnings. In the last few days the "BBC" forecast has shown little or no snow for our area yet it snowed almost all day yesterday as Met Office and Netweather predicted. Secondly the public ignore the weather warnings, the keep calm and carry on, should at time be replace by stay home and keep safe. Most of the road blockages were caused by people going out, unprepared, blocking the roads , so that gritters could not get closed. Parents moan at the schools when they close, but then moan just as much when it starts snowing and they then insist on collecting their children during the day. In Spain for example they would have shut the motorways and main roads to lorries, and if needed cars, to allow them to be plouged , and gritted. You don't have an option you are not allowed on them. I would rather be too cautious than too optimistic.
  6. Well in Canterbury now below freezing -0,2C light snow , obviously not melting now ,shed roof and grass have a good covering. Paths still relatively clear.
  7. Would also say that if we do get another snow covering, this would certainly push the ranking of this winter way higher up in my thoughts and memories..
  8. Well if this mini beast comes off, Bill Farkin and his Grebes will be spinning in their digital graves. Well after his theoretical snow cut off date...
  9. I look back at my own post from last Sunday and indeed it was a week to remember , always going to end this way, with rain washing away the hard won snow fields. Better really as it get rid of the salt and grit from the road which would damage cars and ruin my bike. Took around 2 weeks to reload from the last cold event which was around standard back in the days of my youth ... so maybe something cold again in and around 18/19/20 March just a hunch. The main snow here fell on Monday night through to Tuesday, then Tuesday to Wednesday , followed by the bone chilling -15C.. That froze everything nicely so that any further snow however little would just top up what was there. Then we had the freezing rain and a final Friday top up of snow. Tomorrow I hope to go on a spring like bike ride.
  10. I suppose it depends on perspective and how important is the snow. In my view it has been a classic winter in may ways : For depth of cold it certainly hits the mark, many day of deep cold, down to -15C where I live. 3 or 4 periods of snow. Almost a week of complete snow cover, Snow for 5 consecutive days . O.K. in came latter but it has been the most wintery winter for at least 6 years , possibly 8 /9 years so a once in a decade event. I also look at minor effects on my life, not being able to exit the house on my bike, having to help out elderly neighbours with shopping, being at home with the kids as the schools are closed. That hasn't happened for 6 years so, not bad so far and although we are spring, the cold may just be retreating and could return in a week or two.
  11. Snow in Canterbury for last 45 minutes no more freezing rain I hope , -1.6c
  12. Yes also , confirm freezing rain in Canterbury , despite the car being warmed through , as I drove it glazed the windscreen or side windows depending on where I turned the heaters onto. Paths are turning into multi crusted ice rinks.. Not nice.
  13. Current -15C in Canterbury I kid you not! around 15 - 20 cm of snow.
  14. Currently a bone chilling -15C must of had around 10 cm over night to add to the previous fall, brrrr..
  15. Yep seem to be in the sweet spot for once, building up nicely , shows the difference that a nice layer of previous snow/ ice can make to the accumulation. Earlier in the year we had almost the same amount but it just melted. -2C and still snowing, if it stops snowing it will freeze if not it keeps building up, win win if you like snow , less so if you don't.
  16. Snow topped out at around 10cm maybe a little more, enough for a snow person or two , which makes this the best winter for snow for at least 4 years and possibly 6 years, still a good 3 days to go or more of the cold spell including the possible Friday snow storm..
  17. Snow settling nicely on the garden in Canterbury and the roads are also white. Very fine powder snow, so likely to drift with more on the way according to the radar.
  18. What ever happens over the next few days, firstly people should keep safe and look in on their elderly neighbours . Also check the anti freeze in your car and check that you have appropriate washer solution or it will just freeze on your windscreen. Anything that drops out the sky from mid Monday until late Friday will be snow. How often have we been able to say that. Local events ie streamers, etc are almost impossible to forecast, so I would just watch the window and radar, have fun if you enjoy snow, turn up the heating if you don't.
  19. Massive hail storm in Canterbury ,lawn is completely white with the stuff.
  20. Just saw the new graphics for the first time. The map is too small, the font size has been reduced but the names now take up more space i.e. Birmingham occupies all of Wales, mostly costal towns are shown, no where in the middle. Same is true of the local forecast. Map is washed out and unclear , I suppose it might look better on a huge TV but who knows. As for the website it is laughable, the forecast is completely inconsistent with the metoffice weather warnings which are still underneath .Now there is a big difference between the metoffice and bbc forecast. For example I have snow forecast by the Metoffice from 3-6 am but none at all from BBC/Meteo but all most all day according to Netweather. Will be interesting to see who is right..
  21. Current snow deluge in Canterbury with around 2 flakes per minute.... more to come on the radar..
