  1. Stour streamer been delivering mizzle , then snow, hail , rain , all day from around 8:30 to Canterbury . There is a covering of snow in places mainly on grass and car windscreens but also a deadly snow slime on the paths , which will be even worse if it freezes. More to come by the looks of it.
  2. Reakky belting it down now in Canterbury massive flakes, settling on grass and sheds ,less so on paths, all turning white ( again )
  3. Snowing again in Canterbury ,sticking on the icy remnant of previous effort.
  4. In my view we should look at this as a 3 phase operation. First we get the cold coming in from the West , never a good direction for snow for the south east. It tends to run out of steam, we are more on the borderline for snow / rain mix. Perhaps to the North of Kent / Sussex and to the West we could see some hit and miss showers, from around Mid afternoon.to around 21:00. Then if you want snow, and laying snow even better, we need temperatures to drop away. There then could be snowy / sleety mix during Friday , thus the lower the temperatures on Thursday , the less chance of it being washed away. Saturday we see phase 2, the best hope for snow in this region is , again in my view from showers being pushed in from the sea / Thames estuary, I would say that this favours the north east of Kent. This phase could last until late Monday Then we look to Tuesday for a possible frontal snow event , with more widespread snow ,favouring north /central kent sussex . A far better prognosis for snow lovers than the doom and gloom of the last event. So lets see what happens, radar watching may be the key.
  5. For those who like snow and cold weather, these N/ NW snow events are usually a damp squib for us in the SE. However if you look back a little in time you can find records of severe cold and snow in late January (1972, 1978, 1982, ) , Feb ( 1983, 1985 sea froze at Pegwell bay, April 1966 May 1967 ( snow stopped play in cricket matches ) and even in June 1982 , so don't give up. Just be realistic not pessamistic.
  6. Extremely cold here in Canterbury -5.7 according to garden thermometer =4.- according to Oregon Scientific infront. Thats much colder than the models suggested, I wonder if that will affect what may fall out of sky , or how far the weather front will progress pushing against the mass of colder air.
  7. Ok Sandwich is good , if I can work my phone I will try and get to the famous sign...
  8. I will go looking for some more snow on my bike ride, which direction should I ride from Canterbury , I was thinking of going to Sandwich for lunch. ..
  9. Completely off topic, but if NK looked like doing anything China would invade NK under American blessing to keep the peace, so don't be too concerned
  10. Bit of light snow in Canterbury earlier, thats 6 months in a row with some kind of snow, ,,,
  11. Sky just turned black and guess what it's snowing again in Canterbury , one more day of snow = 6 consecutive months of some snow
  12. Went on an extended bike ride today and came back cover in snow / ice , seems that every light snow shower has Canterbury's name in today. Has been at it on and off for 8 hours now, nothing laying of course.
  13. Light snow has been falling on and off in Canterbury since at least 5.00 am when I woke up to put on the washing machine, should it snow on Monday that would be 6 months in a row when it has snowed,,
  14. Just had a quick car trip out in the snow. It is still coming down in Canterbury.. It is sticking on roofs, grass and cars but is melting on roads and paths. Probably wouldn't take much of a temperature increase to turn to rain or decrease to start laying thick and fast , Game on...
  15. Don't think a big shift North is needed, it is only 20 - 40 miles from the SE being in a very snowy zone, but this close is that likely to happen? Well atm it does look like 2 - 5 cm of snow max according to the GFS.
  16. When you click on the 5 dayer on met office site and timeline. For Canterbury for example it now says Sun 1800 sleet , 2100 heavy snow , Monday light snow / on/off all day, continuing until 6.00 Tuesday
  17. Well earlier this morning I predicted 10 - 15 cm for my area. Well if the GFS is to be believed it would now be snowmageddon. That I will believe when I see it. Meto only predict light snow for a couple of days. I kind of hope it will be inbetween the Meto and GFS predictions,, ie what I said earlier!
  18. The snow amounts on the GFS look good , but that would be a maximum amount with a lot of melt if the sun comes out, still looks like 10 - 15cm for my area,
  19. Light dusting here bit more than yesterday , I suppose around 0.5cm in places but no more than that.
