  1. I can't agree Kent is bad for snow, I have seen some massive events through the years , although I cunningly managed to miss the one of 1987. 1991 & 1997 were also fairly spectacular. You can go a long time without a big "event" in this part of the world, but as we are stuck out into the sea and surrounded by water and occasionally right next to a huge pool of cold air, a big dumping of snow is sure to happen again in the future. Maybe not this year , but who knows. On another subject , I did see a weather forecast predicting a couple of weak fronts crossing over us sometime tomorrow, possibly following the bank of cloud round from the continent. Lets see..
  2. At one point a little more snow was forecast , beeb / meto were looking at about 1 - 3 cm from Friday to Sunday. It has snowed pretty much continually here for a day and a bit, but to little effect as it was so very light as the air is presumably very dry. There could be more to come just probably not a lot.. If anyone thinks winter is over, they may well be mistaken , I remember some very wintery Easters in the mid 70's , walking to " holiday club" through many inches of snow in my welly boots with it going over the top and onto my socks... Wait and see, that is the wonder of the weather.
  3. Well in Canterbury there might be about 2mm of snow, a light crisp covering in parts , on top of the wheelie bins, starting to settle on grass...
  4. Too be realistic. I would expect an maximum of 1 - 2 cm of snow during tomorrow. With a maximum of 3cm on Saturday and again on Sunday. In terms of " average" amount I would say more like about 2 - 3 cm across the 3 days.
  5. Have to say the radar reading looks false to me unless they are the straightest ever banks of cloud....
  6. Meto now going for light snow for Canterbury ,any time from midday onwards ,turning to rain Sunday, GFS shows a slightly more potent affair but switches wind to due North at one stage.
  7. Radar shows band of very light snow in SE atm, As for more major snow , I don't see any frontal snow initially on any of the models until after Monday. What could happen, is that some moist air could be dragged in off the sea as a low pressure develops over the continent, similar to the last event in a way for our region. In which case it is watch and wait.
  8. My experience of the current kind of set up is that radar is the best way to go; The GFS shows some kind of snow for my area for 2 or 3 days. However due to snow flake inflation, I don't count on anything unless it says light or above . Or in BBC terms 2 flake cloud = 1 flake cloud old money , if you are my age or above you know what I mean!.
  9. Considering it has been snowing for 4 hours there is relatively little as it has been wet snow falling on wet ground. Temp is around 0.5C, roofs, grass etc white. Still trying to lay on road, but pesky cars keep driving through mixing in the salt and grit. Seems to be a good few hours left in though. Canterbury
  10. Canterbury 0.4C , 983Mb still snowing , moderate flakes, settling on lawn, wheelie bins, just starting to lay on roads, and annoyingly satellite dish blocking out the signal.
  11. In Canterbury, around 0.5C , snow coming down diagonally in strong wind. Laying on grass and any non saturated surfaces. Road still clear. 983Mb
  12. Fairly steady snow still . 983Mb, grass, shed roof and wheelie bin lids turning white at last . 1.1C
  13. O.K. in my region of Canterbury now 1.1C , down .7 in last hour 2:30 2.2C 3.00 1.8C 986Mb 4.00 1.1C 985Mb Moderate snow, no sleet at all
  14. Yep tis true the rain has turned to snow in Canterbury, ground is too wet atm for it to stick.
  15. O.K. in my region of Canterbury now 1.8C , down .3 in 30minutes, light rain / sleet 80:20 mix. 2:30 2.2C 3.00 1.8C 986Mb
  16. I see the weather warning has been reinstated for Eastern Kent , I guess this is a very hard one to call as the developing low pressure area looks to be very small and hard to place.
  17. Sleet with big snow flakes in Canterbury far too warm to lay at 3C but snow never the less.
  18. Well my two thermometers read -0.4C in the back garden and + 0.9 C in the front so I guess it is around 0.2C In Canterbury
  19. It certainly has been a very different day. I have rarely seen such fine snow, fall so densely and for so long. Usually it will either die back or pep up into larger flakes. Today though it kept on in Canterbury for virtually 12 hours , falling at about 1cm per hour. Tonight there will be a big freeze , so take care on the roads.
