Met office going for 35c@Heathrow on Friday.
Think I'll give it a miss, will be full of Netweather members anyway.

Rather obvious that the Met Office contingency planners 'forecast' for this summer is going to be very wrong.
Perhaps didn't factor in low solar and la nina.

Sunday 2 Aug - Tuesday 11 Aug
There are some fairly strong signals that unsettled conditions are likely to continue through into the first half of August, with outbreaks of rain and scattered showers affecting all parts of the United Kingdom at times. The heaviest and most prolonged spells of rain are likely to be focussed towards the northwest, where it may also become quite windy at times with a risk of gales in exposed locations. However, there should still be some drier and brighter spells in between the outbreaks of rain, with the driest of these conditions expected towards the southeast. Temperatures are likely to be slightly below average for this time of year, but perhaps near normal towards the southeast.
Wednesday 12 Aug - Wednesday 26 Aug
This period is likely to see a mixture of dry and settled conditions, interspersed with occasional bouts of wetter and windier weather. The majority of the unsettled weather should most likely be in the north and west, with the south and east seeing the driest conditions, especially later on this period. Temperatures are likely to be around the average for this time of year, with any particularly warm weather being short-lived and generally towards the south or southeast. Looking further ahead into late-August, there are some tentative signs that conditions could become more widely dry and settled across the UK.
No heat for the first half of August then.
Not surprised.

Portsmouth wont see anywhere near 34c on Friday, having said that north Africa no doubt will...
-
Looking very likely to be a one day wonder, any warmth swept away in double quick time and with that goes storm potential, shame.
Hope I am wrong re storms...

Would be good from a storm perspective if the warmth hangs around longer in the....
South East, where I actually live.....
I cant post what may be good for other areas further north, that would be plain daft.

Get ready for the plume, but set your alarm clocks early as not to miss it.

Really praying this summer stays as it is,the thought of a August heat wave or even temps into the high twenties is awful. The usage of masks at work is bad enough,10hrs a day at times but wearing them for shopping in such high heat would be a nightmare, would make life in this year even more depressing and awful.
Certainly no heat wave showing, METO updates indicate the same.

What I think too, Sept does tend to have a break from the Atlantic dominance of July and Aug
Not really helpful in the August CET thread though is it.

Not warm then, below average yet again.
August shaping up to be dire, not even reaching 30c.
I'm in Halifax at the moment and it's been freezing cold with a brisk wind all day.
There is talk of a hot plume in the MOD thread, things backing west.
IMO it will end up a Kent Clipper, with sadly no storms for me.
Atlantic too strong thus plume has no chance to sustain for more than a day.
Maybe later in the month perhaps, not holding my breath though for this August, who would?
-
No plume on the GFS, more a glancing swipe for the SE.
-
GFS not showing any heat for the start of August.
Plenty of rain though!
-
GFS going for a brief plume at the end of summer into August, some storm potential there.
Just kidding about summer btw.

What's that got to do with anything? Never mind heat records on this morning and just look at things globally and how the Siberian warmth during winter and June coupled with a persistent area of high pressure has totally destroyed the Siberian arctic ice cover. It was not helped it was thin to start off with but even so, its just extraordinary.
As for first ice free summer, it won't be this summer but the ice edge reaching the North pole? Would not rule that one out!
I should not have posted in this thread, was an error of judgement.

GFS continues its cool and wet start to August.
Consistent it is.

GFS not looking good for the start of August, on the cool side and wet!
If its right of course.

You mean anyone with clear eyesight who lives down here. Someone living 300 miles away trying to tell me what the weather has been like down here can safely be ignored, unless it matches with real data.
Good point!
Always advisable to travel hundreds of miles to test ones eyesight..

I wonder how long until we get our first 'Ice free arctic' summer?!
100 years maybe a 1000, or never.
Who knows.
For us here in the UK, its another summer where 40c will not be reached.

Above average (25-26C) in the south east yesterday and today. Punishment weather comes in tomorrow.
Maxed out @24c where I live so it was average.
Nice enough though.
-
Sunny spells with temps around average, nothing to moan about.
Apart from no summer storms.
-
GFS very consistent (has been accurate last few weeks) again showing no heat to end of month.
-
A better start to the 2nd half of July...suns out! ha.
-
June had 97MM.
Could July beat that and top 100MM?

Around 15.5 tops in the zone today, so should be no uptick tomorrow.
Last 2 days will bump it up a tad, then its all down to the mysterious corrections.
