  1. The node.js mention was just generally as it drives me mad with Windows 'native' desktop applications. I'm my view javascript has no place being the basis for a desktop application - such apps are bloated and poorly optimised. It's just a bugbear of mine. I'm at a bit of a loss what to do here though - is there anyway you can provide the option of a legacy app for the likes of me or update the app to force it through Chrome to ensure compatibility?
  2. The thing that I'm finding frustrating about this is I keep being told this isn't just a browser window opening a website - but that is literally what it is. If this forced it to open inside a Chrome window instead it might work ok, but if it's just going to open a default browser window then this is the risk - I shouldn't have to mess around with my default browser to open an app properly - call me old fashioned, but the point of an app is it's supposed to run locally on the device itself. This 'webification' of all software drives me absolutely nuts - everything is either just a website running in a obfuscated browser window or it's some bloated and janky NodeJS rubbish, which is just putting lipstick on some javascript and pretending it's a native app.
  3. Firefox has the option to open websites in their related app like Twitter or YouTube - so it is something a standard webpage has. Like I said, everything about this just shows its a browser window pointing to the website.
  4. This not an acceptable answer - I can see with my own eyes that it's literally just opening a browser window to https://www.netweather.tv/extra/radar/ So yes, it IS just the webpage masquerading as an app - trying to tell me otherwise is asking me to deny the evidence of my own eyes. Look at the attached images. It even gives me the option of selecting the desktop version of the site. When I do it shows the website menus and everything!
  5. I'm actually considering cancelling my subscription over this. It's the first time Netweather have seriously disappointed me. It's not just the update, it's the intellectual dishonesty of it - the update notes give the impression there has been an actual substantial update to the app, but it's just listing the general features of the V8 radar webpage. An honest description of the update would be "This app's functionality has been completely removed, it now functions solely as a launchpad for the radar webpage". Why even bother having an app at all if this is what it's going to be? You may as well just tell everyone development on the app is cancelled and to just go to the website, because that's what's basically happening here. It's like you guys want an app without the inconvenience of actually developing an app.
  6. I opened the Netweather Extra app this morning to find it has received an 'update'. Apparently its been 'Updated to use the V8 Radar engine' - in reality the app has simply been replaced with a link that opens the V8 radar webpage in your default browser - that's it! A properly developed app has been turned into a Web link with extra steps. It can barely be called an 'app' anymore. My default browser is Firefox Nightly due to its add-on support and it doesn't play nice with the V8 radar. So a working app has been turned into a waste of space on my phone as I can't use it anymore. So thanks A huge step backwards and horribly lazy development. Why even bother with an 'app' of its just going to be a web link? I want the old app back - it wasn't perfect but at least it was actually an app and actually functioned.
  7. Seems to be snowing here just a little bit right now - not much, mind. Very small flakes and not a huge amount of them. If the radar is anything to go by, hopefully this is just a preview.
  8. It's a degree or so warmer here this morning than yesterday morning - just nudged over 1°C, now after having had no precipitation during the period it was cold enough to snow, it's now started raining
  9. I'm seeing something similar around Watford/Luton right now - certainly hook-like.
  10. Something's happening, seen some good flashes in the last few mins - last lot was just west of Long Stratton.
  11. Loads of convection has kicked off heading up East Anglia in the last half hour. Doesnt seem to have electrified much yet though. Am getting the occasional distant flash though.
  12. Well, all that completely missed me last night. Looked like I was in for a direct hit at one point before it all suddenly evaporated. Charts 2 days ago were looking promising for here for Monday as well, and now there seems to be very little on the cards at all - it's all south of here. In fact, Norwich is *just* outside the SLGT zone for the third day in a row - it actually curves to avoid Norwich today Been a very disappointing summer so far for storms. Had one or 2 very small storms very early on, at the end of spring. That's usually a bad sign, and it has proven to be. Had a small lightshow at the end of that 37°C heatwave, but nothing else of note.
  13. Looking very convective in all directions here right now - big towering cumulus building almost everywhere. Wanted to get some photos but the best views have been obscured by low cloud now
  14. Mid levels looking unstable here this morning. Hope this is a sign of things to come.
  15. Something kicking off on the east coast of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Can see the top of it from my front windows. Seems to be going up in a convergence zone.
  16. It's been hot with a hazy sunshine all day today. Mostly low-level fluff about, but then occasionally get something a bit more meaty-looking. Shows there's some potential at least.
  17. Yeah, and neither the Netweather radar nor LightningMaps are picking it up, which is quite odd as I'm stood here watching it! I see some CGs in there too which is concerning considering how little rain there is from this, and the main core of it isn't over me yet.
  18. What seemed like a benign blob of elevated rain suddenly went bang and became quite the light show - big lightning every 5-10 seconds atm - all elevated so not as loud as I'd like but looks epic nonetheless
  19. Got turkey towers going up to my north. I hope this is a positive sign.
  20. I'm in Norwich and it's been cool and cloudy with an almost uniform white sky all day. Does not feel thundery at all. I fear I may be too far north for any festivities.
  21. Hoping Norwich sees something tonight - we seem to be in an awkward spot to get storms in recent years - in the 90s and early 2000s it seemed to be a hotspot here, now it's usually too far north, south, east or west. Lincolnshire seems to be the new hotspot in the last 10 or so years. Judging by the UKV, the big bad blob should pass over at about 1am, but I highly suspect all the best activity will be to the south, and I'll be left with just a messy blob of rain.
  22. Ahhh, I see. I assumed it was something convective based on the lapse rate chart.
