  1. Sferics popping up around Derby/Notts....!! 12:45 ish, anyone confirm, and its direction going in?
  2. My Mum lives in Barnsley, looks like on the radar, the only rain in England!! She must have put some washing on the line to dry!!!
  3. Well, my accuweather says "sprinkles" for Thursday!!!!
  4. More tumbleweed, not a fork or clap in sight....... When's it gonna break............? Hot enough, certainly humid, lots of cloud, but somethings missing..?
  5. It's been pretty much overcast here in Leicester all day, Sun tried its best, but only managed two or three brief, less than an hour sessions...... However it has felt quite humid and dense. What's in store for us Saturday evening? Any likelyhood of unforecast thunderyness gonna be knocking around the East Midlands, maybe Leicester... We've got Swindon in an Elite League clash........
  6. This high pressure to the west, is it conducive to aiding thunderstorms? Or could we do with it drifting east over Europe, would that e courage warm air over us from France/Spain? Or is there something else essential missing?
  7. Just looked at a few photos of convective action/thunder clouds/lightning, some corkers!! What's the most thunderstorms anyone on here can recall in any single month, or consecutive 28 days (lunar month)
  8. Ok, found them I think, damn smartphone, is there a forum app available? Pics a difficult to look at on my phone...
  9. Is there a storm/lightning photo & video thread on this forum guys? I am on a smartphone, and navigation is a tad lumpy??? Link appreciated if thread exists...
  10. Ahhh, so at best, we end up with "Kent Clippers" yes?
  11. Yes, agree, but i'm going back to the very late 60's and 70's, and I remember a few belting evening storms in the mid 80's, one specific awful evening for me was on a August Friday evening, say from 19:00 - 23:00, a blistering hot day, just finishing my "pools round" it had been building in the far far distance for a long while, almost ran round the last 20 houses, to get home, counted up and coupons dropped off, didn't go back home, would have been alone, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Went straight to my local and witnessed an absolute brute.... Lightning everywhere, I stood in the pub doorway at one stage (beer bravery) and saw a bolt right above me which split into lots of down and outward strands... Scared the living daylights out of me..... Straight back inside!!! Went on for 4 hours, there were quite a few buildings struck and barns......... A real brute.....
  12. Right, thanks for the info..... But...... Why, do I seem to have memories from childhood to early teens of what seems like regular summer storms, and probably a much higher ratio of night time storms, early hours, with loads of sheet lightning, long, rumbling thunder, and not always accompanied by rain... My Gran always used to say it was God ripening the corn...... perhaps I'm a tad early in the summer, perhaps it was nearer July onwards.... But I still think night storms were more often than day storms.... Oh, I've always lived in Leicester apart from a couple of summer long breaks in my teens working in Butlins Skegness, my other grand parents lived there........
  13. Hmmmmm, died a death this thread..... So, when's the next wave of stormy weather to breach the UK expected.....? Still awfully humid down here in Leicester, don't know what it's like anywhere else in the Country......?
  14. So I sort of get that, knowing exactly what was going on, I suppose knowing there isn't a thunder cloud directly overhead is a plus.... especially if you are outdoors....
  15. I do understand that, but I will jump on a Speedway bike, no breaks, 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and race in a confined space, mostly sideways with 3 other racers, probably the most dangerous motor sports on the planet, so it's selective fear, I am a he'll of a lot better in a storm than I used to be, so very, very slowly growing out of it..... And the really odd thing is it does fascinate me and I do get excited as well, just the fear of lightning seems to kick in.........
  16. I just about cope when it's not overhead, say 4+ miles away and I know it's going by, or as I say to the Mrs, it's not our storm, but any closer and I do really panic... I haven't even got a tv aerial! Got freesat, as a kid, was led to believe that tv's on, via aerial made the aerial a prime lightning rod, so if a storm got anywhere near, tv went off, aerial unplugged from tv, and it didn't go back on until the storm was completely gone, and I mean gone!!! What do you lot do at home precaution wise when a storm gets close.... Anything?
  17. You see this is real danger, isn't it...? I cannot see how anyone can say they truly aren't scared of thunderstorms... 10 houses, and that was just the reported in Reading!! I would have been absolutely distraught if these storms had of affected Leicester.... By God I would have been terrified!! It was bad enough on here with all you lot like you were at firework displays, how can you not be scared of situations like that, especially at such close quarters... I bet Gordon was worried as well, even though we didn't have storms, we were lucky..... Just how can you overcome the fear of thunder when actually, it is dangerous unlike clowns, pavement cracks etc......
  18. According to Blitz, fresh strikes around Bognor Regis and just off its coast! Are we now exporting storms??? Thats got to be as rare as hens teeth!!!
  19. You can see the "S" plot of strikes, and the rain plot.... Attached screen shots
  20. LIghtning plot now a squared off S shape, same on blitz and realtime.....
  21. Is the BBC 02:00 Weather view forecast pre recorded? Didn't really mention the big storms that are going on at present..................?
