  1. Just looking at the rain radar, the showery, raggety stuff moving east has now developed a really sharp and defined line at its front (leading edge) Is this a sign of it bashing into the high pressure? (See attached) NOW!!
  2. What about this afternoons Chances ? It was included in todays forecast, well the ones in the witching hours........!!!
  3. A question, when we, or mainly you all talk about "CAPE" and the lifting of air, is all air equall when it comes to weight? I just imagine a parcel of "DRY" air, would weigh considerably less than a parcel of "MOISTURE RICH" air, which in normal terms and everyday physics would therefore need less energy to lift it? Also, lifting "DRY" air, wouldn't result in convectiveness, because their would be nothing to condense out of the dry air? Am I making any sense?
  4. What's annoyed me as our local BBC weather has totally blanked us as far as storms are concerned, when only 5 minutes before that, Carol Kirkwood and her graphics depicted the areas at risk to easily cover our region....! Just like a little consistently! Both forecasts from the same organisation... To be honest, I'm terrified of storms, that's why I like a little consistency in forecasts..
  5. What's likely to kick-off in the east Midlands (Leicester) this afternoon/evening? The reason I ask is because on our BBC local news/weather the potential storms over our region this afternoon has been downgraded to only light and patchy light rain!! Also thunderstorm bias has gone from our region Thurs, Fri, Sat and morphed into showers with Sunday being heavy, but not a single hint of the apocalyptic storms being mentioned on main national BBC forecast!!!!!
  6. Oooooh, Errrrrrrr!!! Is this a new met office weather warning graphic? Looks stormy !!!!
  7. Whilst on this subject for the oncoming storm/s What are the most important ingredients that make lightning hit the ground/object, or flash between or inside the clouds?? Or is it just random?
  8. Thanks! Be helpful to us WEAM'S if there was a page with links to the better weather apps/programmes etc with brief synopsis on what they do and how to decipher the results/info.... (WEAM'S) = Weather Amateurs ..
  9. Hi, I'm on Android, I have found (Blitzortung Lightning) to be very good and for rainfall radar I use (Rain Alarm) these are both free, and with rain alarmyou can change map backgrounds to either Google or terrain... Hope this helps....
  10. Hi, thanks.... It's also available on Android, but it's a paid app...
  11. Right, Leicester is NAILED ON for big storm on Thurs/Fri. How do I know this???? The Council are cleaning out the roadside gully pots/drains!!! They only ever, ever, ever do this if they're expecting a shed load of rain.......!!!!
  12. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for this event, unusually early....... Is it that much cut and dried with a good 96+ hrs to the event....?
  13. What do you mean by cb action? There's lots of acronymic choices....
  14. Light rain falling now in Leicester, that light it's struggling to wet the pavement... Humidity seems to have dropped off slightly, yet still very warm.... No sign of anything remotely thundery, although earlier we had sferics 14/15 mile west..
  15. Back on topic please folks!!! 😃 I've wanted to say that for ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Just has a met office weather warning for heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms to breakout this afternoon due to mid 20's temps..... It may have been issued earlier, except only just switched internet on!!!!
  17. So it's a sharp edged stalled warm front, someone has mentioned lightning down south, surely nit from this sword of wetness..... Showing a strike or two around Lowestoft, anyone confirm?
  18. Thats incredible!! Any pictures? So in a street, one side could be pretty much dry, whilst the o the side soaking wet!! Only in the UK!!
  19. This weather warnings, does it include any electrical activity??
  20. This Sunday and Monday are big days for me and Leicester Speedway... Monday we make our TV debut at home against Eastbourne... Sunday will be spent getting the track as good as it can be, and obviously Monday is the meeting... Because I am not at one with Thunderstorms and I will be in open field conditions Sunday, and again Monday evening, can I expect any T and L? Especially Sunday afternoon?? (Leicester)
  21. I have noticed this as well, do all these differently branded lightning programs/applications use different sets/types of detectors or from different locations or use different data-sets? Isn't there a program/application that crunches ALL lightning data to produce a more accurate plot, or is this not possible, like diesel/petrol, Linux/Windows or Metric/Imperial.......... Just wondering????
  22. Is there a low pressure centre somewhere close to the North Midlands? This would explain the multi direction possibly?
