  1. Just to add to this, when it hit Leicester there was a quite windy gust front! And the underbelly of the storm clouds looked like micro rounded peaks and troughs which were moving erratically and quicked than the upper clouds, when the rain started, it was pea size rain, then stopped, then bucketed it down with huge bon bon sized rain drops with sweet corn sized hail intermixed.. we had no lightning within a 3 mile radius of LE30BB but heard and saw lightning further afield which was obscured somewhat by the torrential rain.. it hung around for around 10/12 mins then cleared off north, a lot fresher behind it...
  2. Ooooops! Wrong post!! Hey! The top photo of this set (the sky goldfish eye view) has just been used on ITN lunchtime news......!!!! Get your royalties in....!!!

  4. Wow!! Independence Day Mother Ship!!! Where in UK did you shoot that? No coordinates in your signature......
  5. Same here, last 30-45 minutes the sun has burst through the knackered, scruffy leftover clouds from last night's activity and shot up from 19.8c to 25.9c Feeling very muggy as the breeze has also vanished....
  6. Upper based? What is the difference in there formation v surface based, and how different are the resulting storms?
  7. Question........? Theta w Theta e Please in a potted science lesson, explain/define the above, and how many letters go in front of Theta please??
  8. Anyone near this camera as the lens could do with a quick wipe!!!!!! Only joking!! Unbelievable amount of lightning!
  9. Yea! Have several weather apps open on my HTC ONE M7, Android phone, it copes quite well with them open, couldn't have done that with my old N97!! Looks like the band is breaking down into individual areas/cells? Some producing sferics, some not, and its all "crabbing" sort of north, but now uneven progress...... so not sure how close its gonna get to me.........
  10. Is this the first glimpse of tonight's potential fireworks? Just about to clip Quimper....?? Also, nice to see two different apps in sync!
  11. ReindeerMarmalade, it's defo the lightning I fear, I have pretty vivid recurring dreams of being chased by lightning storms! All sorts of lightning, tornados, and not always when it's forecast, just as likely to dream this in December as July!! I don't have a lightning conductor, but I don't have a connected aerial either, have wall mounted dish, as low as possible!! I will disconnect everything electrical I can when lightning is imminent, and my partner turns all the mirrors around!!!!!! I don't liveon the top iif a hill, well not elevated at all really and Ihave at the moment a towering crane about 70 yards away! Is the fear of LIGHTNING to this level common? I don't know, but I see lots of people who don't seem to give a damn and will walk around in the open in a thunderstorm and not even acknowledge it's there! So, yes, it's the Lightning that scares me... and fear of being struck/close to a strike...
  12. Hi Chris101, My scenario is probably a little different to Gordon's. I am fascinated with weather and love all it throws at us, but I have this fear of T and L, well the lightning element as its the dangerous part... I have no idea why, I'm the only one in the family with this phobia.... But, I like to watch it from distance, and I'm very brave when it's 10+ miles away!!!!! I am trying to rid myself of this fear, and talking about it, listening to you professionals discussing it with the charts, long words, pictures taken is one of the steps I am taking to inoculate myself...... I am much better now, than I was only 2-3 years ago, when I accidently landed on the Isle of Wight Lightning maps, you know, with the animated strike plotting..... Etc. I think the next step is to find a local chaser and perhaps, and its only a very small perhaps, go on a chase and experience it a tad closer than my current safe distance threshold. Weather (excuse the humour) this helps ir not, I won't know until I try it..... So I will continue to add my thoughts, comments, and soak-up the thunderstorm knowledge in the continued battle against my fear, real or unreal...
  13. Hello Gordon, wondered where'd you got to......! Yes, I'm in the same boat, anxiety, tummy going off, fluttery heart rate. I'm hoping for say a glancing encounter, near enough to see and appreciate it, but far away enough to avoid it if you know what I mean? You may get a starter course tonight, before the main course arrives.......
  14. If you had an elevated storm firing along next to a normal thunderstorm, what would be the difference to an observer viewing them simultaneously, from a distance of 2/3 miles away?
  15. I think I need to be with a chaser....... Face my fear full on.... What's happened to my fellow lightning hater GORDON? Bedworh I think his locale was/is? Wonder if the Speaksons would take my case....? Thing is, and I have mentioned it before, I do actually have quite a fascination for thunder, but I also have this irrational (or is it) fear of âš¡ and I don't know where it came from, except it goes as far back as I can remember.... And I'm ** years old now!!!
  16. I am getting distinctly shaky over this now............. I really don't want to be about if this all kicks off.. Where's the best place to be on Saturday to AVOID all this? If its possible???:
  17. I am blooooooooooming terrified!!!!! â›… â›… â›… â›… âš¡ âš¡ âš¡ âš¡ ðŸ 🄠🌳 🄠That's ALL I think about during thunderstorms!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!
