  1. Agreed, and it's really messy, for here the Met Office have: Now - Heavy rain (correct) 15.00 - Light rain 16.00 - Light snow 17.00 - Heavy snow 18.00 - Heavy rain 19.00 - Heavy snow 20.00 - Overcast What a mess!
  2. Moderate to heavy rain here, and no sign of any icyness on the ground
  3. Good, give me rain over freezing rain any day. Snow yes, freezing rain no - just extremely unpleasant, and downright dangerous if you are unfortunate enough to have to travel in it. Not bothered about 'seeing interesting weather' - watching my roof tiles getting blown off a few years ago was a good example of 'interesting weather' that's absolutely no use nor ornament to anyone.
  4. Looking beyond the stormy period of the next five days (and to me the Sunday 'event' looks like one of those classic 'southwards adjustment with each run' scenarios), there seems to be increasing cross model agreement for a much more settled few days at the beginning of next week, with high pressure very much in charge.
  5. Yes indeed Pete, Fire Incident officer was saying during an interview he suspected either a barbecue/cooking fire or discarded cigarette as the most likely cause..........
  6. Yes was walking on Marsden moor on Monday evening, could see the huge plume of smoke to my southwest, this must be one of the largest fires for a long time. And not hard to understand why, whilst in some of the deeper gullies there's still some 'squelch', the top layer of vegetation is absolutely crunchy tinder dry.
  7. So the possibility of some measurable rainfall round these parts early next week looking less and less likely. And nothing much in the reliable timeframe on the models. I wonder how long this is going to last.............
  8. More cloud than forecast this morning, so with the breeze it's not actually feeling particularly warm. At least not yet anyway............
  9. And so this largely excellent summer continues, and it looks like next week is going to be proper hot summer weather. And apart from the odd shower / drizzly hour or two (and one very brief downpour) the lack of any meaningful rain goes on, at least here in Hudds. anyway. And with no rainfall on the horizon, even into FI, this has the makings of a notable dry spell.
  10. Yes I've been watching this, for the first time in I don't know how long (certainly years), I'm running low on all four water butts in the garden, and away from Scotland, NI and the very far north of England there's no noteworthy rainfall predicted for at least the next week. If longer term signals are to be believed I wonder how long before the first hosepipe bans are brought in?
  11. Yet another hot sunny day here in Hudds., best end of spring / start of summer I can remember, and certainly since I moved to West Yorkshire in June 1994. Have probably spent more time sat out in the back garden in the last 6 weeks than over the last 10 years combined !
  12. So according to GFS virtually no rain around Sunday afternoon, and yet BBC continuing to show heavy rain for much of eastern/northern England pretty much all day (which models haven't been showing for a number of runs now). Do they know something the models don't, or are they as usual just 12 hours behind the curve?
  13. Still snow here, 3-4" on the ground, not bad for 2nd April
  14. Excellent out there just now, snow falling reasonably heavily, combined with a strong gusty wind whipping up the lying snow, and icy under foot, feels like a proper winters night. Shame it isn't actually, and will all be gone by this time tomorrow.......
  15. Since it stopped snowing around four hours ago it's been a very grey and misty day, a little bit of a thaw but nothing dramatic, still pretty much a full covering apart from on roads. Temperature now up to the heady heights of 3c
  16. Quite heavy snow at the moment, a nice end to what has been an excellent spell of weather
  17. All snow here so far this morning, a fresh covering on all surfaces. Will be interesting to see if all the precipitation on this weak front stays as snow (for here at least)
  18. I'm not sure these echoes moving up from the south are much more than just shadows, and anyway are fading pretty quickly now.
  19. Indeed, and I think latest observations suggest the main low is further east (and perhaps a bit further north) than expected at this timeframe, which would potentially have implications for us
  20. From the cameras looks like it's shut eastbound between J22 and J23, and westbound is, as they say, 'passable with extreme care'
  21. Interesting one that BA, whilst I have my doubts about that much further snow for our region over the next 24 hours, text like this sounds pretty severe for an amber: "Roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers. Some rural communities might be cut off for several days. Long interruptions to power supplies and other services such as telephone and mobile phone networks, could occur."
  22. yeah March 2013 was very memorable where I was living then, biggest drifts I've experienced since the 80s, but was very localised to the western Pennines I think
  23. I think that's the current expectation, but then we were only supposed to get showers over the last 10 hours.........
