  1. woke at 3.30am just to excited by this event, guess what it is still snowing heavly, who cares about central southern england and their 40cms ((ha ha ) it is SNOWMAGGEDON in Matlock at present these showers are really piling in the snow fantastic stuff. As others have said, i,m going to really enjoy this and the next few weeks becauce this sort of synoptic pattern could be a once in 20 year occurence, ( or have things changed ?? ) New decade, is the 2010,s the new 70's ha ha (southerly tracking jet and all that. Saw the senoir met office guy on TV) Brought back memories of the BBQ summer and the MILD winter ,ha,ha.
  2. snow started again here about 50 mins ago and has put down another 3cms, we are noe at 15cms total for the day, and it looks as if theres more to come over night.
  3. remember Derbyshire is in the East Midlands, and is over 50 miles long, we have had 12cms of lying snow in my location, with some more to come i;m sure, not so much as south central england but i have had plenty today. It also happens to be my birthday so all in all another good start to the new year.
  4. liht snow here still, has snowed non stop since 8.30am there is now 10cm on the car park at work (DE4 )
  5. OMG !!! So much for 6 to 8cm, started snowing at 8.15am and now we already wave 10 cm, with plenty more to come. The whole town has grind to a halt, cars coming in to work are stuck and blocking the roads for cars trying to go home complete maddness.
  6. What a day, woke up to lows of -9 but walking to work was a bit downbeat, lucky enough to still have 3 inches of snowcover but the weather synoptics could have been so much better especially snowfall wise, anyway got call from my daughter at 3.00pm to say the water pipe outside to the tap had burst, my god she was,nt joking. When i got home the water was spraying 4 feet into the air, and in -2 temps the back yard was bloody lethal. Anyway, after taking out a kitchen base unit, isolating the supply and fixing the leak, luckly problem solved. BUT feeling a lot better know i,ve viewed the 18z run. PS that ppn coming in from the North West tonight is just taking ages to get here. Keeps breaking up over the Peak District. Location North Derbshire ( DE4 )

  8. will have to walk to work this morning, still have 4 inches of snow everywhere and temps at 8.30am down to -9.0, WHOA. role on more snow, at this rate no one is driving anywhere of my estate.
  9. -6.3 at 7.15pm not as cold as Buxton but not bad at 160mtrs asl,Roads around here are going to lethal tommorrow
  10. another good day here, been out for short walk across the snow fields of North Derbyshire, great views from the hills around my home town, even took some small video clips but not sure how to load them. -4.5 at 5pm now so how low will it go ?. Last couple of nights have been down to -5.5 and -5.1 so should easly smash that tonight. day time high of -0.9 so yet another ice day here this winter. Snowfall looks good for the midlands this week. I follow the GFS precip charts out to t48 and t72 and there are usually quite acurate. Managed to pick out the last few snowfalls here quite well, if anything they have underdone the amount of ppn, so may get more than we think. Lots more to come for all of us.
  11. well, sat in front room watching tv with all the lights of, and the curtains open, lampost outside just lights up all this lovely heavy snow, must be another 2 inches come down now. Don;t know what to do watche tv or just stare at the lampost with a big grin
  12. still heavy, neighbours have gritted the roads opposite but white over again. Try load some pics, temps now back to 0.9
  13. wow, still hammering down here, its all snow, temps slowly rose from -6.2 to 1.4 but back down to 1 now. Some of the flakes are almost snowball size, plenty more to come, then the front moving down tonight. Lets hope it all freezes.
  14. OMG !! Snowing really heavy now, posted on Yorksshire thread aswell becauce i'm only 12 miles south of sheffield even though i'm in the east midlands, BUT this is the heaviest snow fall this year (ha ha) Looks like theres plenty more to come. sahould be hitting the Derby area quite soon. Looks like a small band of snow first before the heavy stuff catches up
  15. JACK POT !! That streamer from the North West has finally hit here, boy oh boy is it snowing hard.
  16. Have to agree with that to some extent. The GFS ppn charts have been spot on with the position of the rain, maybe a bit low on the projected low temps but there still is plenty of time this evening for the temps to come down. 3.8 here just after dinner, fell to 2.1 then back to 3 but now going back down again.
  17. last few hours its been rain come sleet, even definate wet snow, a true wintry mixture. Just taken my daughter to the bus station and on the way back i drove onto the tops, its all snow falling there, bodes well for the evening as the cold air interacts more, hopefully the ppn should be in place (thats if the met office ) warnings are to be belived. GFS precip charts over the last few days seem to be correct, looks like more ppn getting further North.
  18. well this is still looking like a close call, maybe a bit optimistic, but if you believe the Met O, then i could be seeing incrediable falls of snow here in North Derbyodas. Reminds me of years ago when we had 60cms of level snow in Middleton High Street. The patterns today have a old fashioned feel about them.
  19. heavy sleet with flecks of snow at the moment, could be wet snow at higher elevation over the Peaks of Derbyshire
  20. what a fantastic night, still -0.9 and snowing here, just been out for about 1 hour with my son who's 14 we have has such a laugh, snow ball fight and after snowball fight,on the streets. people sledging on the streets, this is fantasic so close to christmas. If if freezes, no one is moving here tommorow, i must of put 5 buckets of salt on my drive to clear the snow and its covered again. Walked up to my grans house at approx 250 metres and its still heavy snow, even snowing here. This is such a laugh, might go back out in a hour, just for the fun. Role on the rest of the winter. Told my son this is a rare event over the Christmas period, somthing to remember in years to come.
  21. well it looks like GFS was spot on today, its been showing ppn for 4 or 5 days now and temps between 0 and -1 and thats what we got here so no complaints, snowing hard on cold ground. 850s always looked a bit marginal but at 160mtrs als with cold surface temps this was always a good bet for here.
  22. its settling here, roads are now white over again, this is Fab for Christmas can only see more joy to come from this. its settling on already compacted ice and 3 inches of snow on the ground already, so this is looking good for christmas, must be close to 20 years since i has snow on lying on christmas day this is just getting better by the day, still -0.8
  23. OMG just got in 5 mins ago having had 7 pints and a great chritmas meal AND guess what its SNOWING yeagh, startd as snow and plenty to come, whooa might me a bit tipsey but hey its absoutley belting down with with big fat flakes plenty to come temps are -0.9 at 6.50pm. this is great all the flakes are double sized must be the beer. Merry Christmas role on the new year. Mark
