  1. temps -1.4 and dp of -7.5, looking good going by other reports, definately think the Derby v Forest game could off. ??? gonner have to park the car in town this afternoon so that I can get access to the A6 tommorrow morning.
  2. Hi I too enjoyed the 60cm last winter i live in matlock and have never seen that depth of level snow overnight, just everywhere, no drifting. Who would thought a humber streamer could of delivered that. At time John Holmes gave a good detailed write up. anyway looks like Matlock going to have plenty of snow again over the weekend. mark
  3. anyone having problems reading met office weather warnings. visited the met site to check out warnings and it keeps saying can not load start date. ??
  4. GFS 12s showing ppn from 15z through to 03z nearly 13 to 14 hours of (snow??) 850s start at -3 to -4 and during the ealry hours the 850s move to -4 to -5, for most of region. Ground temps start at 0 to 1 and finish at -2 to -3 by 03z. (of course this is all based on tonights gfs12 run). BUT, still looks very good for many. Just waiting for ecm run later.
  5. well just in from work, and spent 30mins reading midlands thread, fantastic stuff. As many have said this cold pool is fighting all the way. should be all snow for my location, although I remember the fiasco last year when at t12 it was all snow, and here we had 10 mins of torrential ice crystals then rain, what a let down looks diffrent this year, colder 850s in place before event, definately colder at the surface, wind flow of the continent, etc, etc. To be honest all in the midlands should see some snow, history in these types of events tells me the cold air will dig in Im, hoping for 0 to 15cms.
  6. kick off sunday 1.00pm, snow could arrive midnight Sat through to Sunday morning. could be on pitch clearing duty, or stop at home enjoy the snow, have a break to watch it on sky, ha ha. no what am I saying, must get to the game.
  7. SHOCK ! In my enthusiasm for plenty of snow action could this scupper the big, big game in the east midlands this week, Derby v Forest. Been looking forward to it all year, could have real problems on my hands if theres 6 to 10inches of snow and the fun it brings, or going to the match ??? Thats if I could get to the game, or its even on ???
  8. well things definatelty on the up (cold/snow wise). i mentioned yesterday that things could and most probably would upgrade, and looking at some of the more knowlegable posts in model thread its looking at lot better for the midlands. Mr SM even mentions Derbys. North as potentialy in the sweet spot, ?? just hope the push west isn,t to big. for my location GFS shows ground temps from 1c to -3 from t72 right through to t81 ( 9 hours ) with plenty of ppn. The heavest due when temps are predicted the lowest over night into sunday. still showing 16mm of ppn, again model generated. but ever hopeful of plenty of snow. I would think North West Derbyshire, North Staffs, South Yorks and many more have a good chance of white stuff over weekend.
  9. well netweather 5 day charts show 15 to 20mm of ppn for my location on Saturday with ground temps at -1 to 1 from 6.00am to midnight. i know this is simplest viewing and only model generated but its definately close for good snow event ( here at least). from experience frontal events are nearly always close run things, thats the nature of them, temos just hit freezing, maybe drop below and bingo, heavy snow. Best situations are when the ppn heads in falls as heavy snow against the cold air gets out to the east coast, then slowly pushed back again. Anyway this past winter has been so frustating waiting for Feb 2012 and GPs forcast of a cold end, lets justy hope theres a suprise over the next 100hours, plenty of time for a backtrack ?? we only need a small on this time, for the chance of some good snow.
  10. yes well spotted for consistency, consistenly placed 4th in the verification stas.
  11. so many to mention but as many have already mentioned 78/79 memorable around here. on the way home from school, the lane was blocked with 6 to 8ft drifts, blown through and way over the farmers gates, blocking the road. Had to take a run and jump then just try to roll over and through. also 81, some big drifts on the tops, from Bakewell to Chesterfield, on my way to colleage, and drifts in some of the dips were up to 20 feet high. i also rember opeing the kitchen door when i lived on the top of Matlock and the snow completly door way. Then my dad went upstaires and had to climb out of the bedroom window into a large drift to get down to ground level, neighbours then had to dig out the house. cannot remember the exact year, but i lived up there from 1967 to December 1976. Definately been some heavy falls here the years.
  12. just been in the Yorkshire thread, always worth checking for me, 20 miles south of Sheffield, 50 miles north Birmingham. some in there quoting 35% chance of heavy snow for south yorks, so any miles further south should increase risk. Sarah Blizzard bigging it up on east mid news, so getting ready for the 6.50pm update :D
  13. just seen BBC1 Weather news 6.30pm, and it looked good for most of midlands, even here, there are also still not discounting option 2 for the storm track. lets hope this delivers, been a few times in last couple of years it just turned into heavy rain, I think there was one last year, Hyped up on news channels. fingers crossed.
  14. good posts tonight, 18z shows uppers between -6 to -5 maybe a -4 for 6 to 9 hours with plenty of ppn around, I also have noticed the streamer being shown later on but as others have said the uppers start at 6.00am at 4 to5 and quiclky chased out with milder air, plenty to keep the interest going, the coldest temps on the 18z are just before any ppn comes in from the NW TO SE so it shows potential for plenty snow. could be some nice suprises over next few days, (if its snow you want) :smilz38:
  15. well I'm definately optimistic about snow chances, seen snow again today here, its still lying on the fields, grass verge and even on some B roads even at 1.30pm, even if the snow isn,t up to much some of the hail storms here today were great, thats with todays winds, just imagine tommorrow when it gets going. could sending out some
  16. i will second that, stll got snow cover on the hills, and have been out from 1030am until 1.30pm and have been driving through huge rain, hail and snowstorms, giving a temporary covering.
  17. well reading some of the prevoius posts, I definatley should be seeing some snow again, Cheshire Gap streamers usually catch this area very well, but if some have said there is a more Westerly component to the wind then should still do well as the showers blow through West to East, all in all should be ok, never do very well out of direct Northerlies though. GFS currently shows rain clearing through with uppers from -5 to -8 in my location, could catch back edge snow thursday. ppn charts show plenty of heavy showers piling in from the West, Liverpool Bay area, with uppers again at -7 to -8, temps around 2 to 3 on GFS, BUT still plenty to watch for. :smilz38:
  18. i know some have dished the pm incusion, but this last lot has produced the goodies for North Derbyshire, although at my elevation its been heavy wet snow not settled really but on the hill tops there's been 4 to 8cm. this next weather batch over the weekend looks even more intense so maybe more will see lying snow.
  19. sure are and there heading to North Derbyshire tonight.
  20. come on fellow Midlanders, its been OK today. During work I had to drive up onto the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton Road, WOW, it was bad up there, roads white over and very icy. During the morning most of the B roads had 2 to 3inches, thats Wiksworth to Middleton Tops, although by 9.30am just tracks with snow down centre lines. Just been out in the car again 8.15pm up to beely moor, and its snowing heavy, gonner be some accumalations overnighht. just heavy wet snow at my house, but only at 170mts, but check out my avatar picture, it was just like that this morning looking out the back door. Definatley deep enough for snowmen or sledging. try and get some picture tommorrow, got to drive up into Peak District again :p
  21. heavy sleet, hail and wet snow for 10 mins temps were 3.1 but now moved down to 1.9 just checking radars and looks like plenty more stuff to come on NW feed, feeding straight down from Irish Sea. ppn seems to build in intensity as it comes over the Peak District.
  22. hoping to see some snow showers tonight and tommorow, looking reasonable for my location, curremtly 2.1 degrees. and planty of showers streaming in over night.
  23. heres one I took in 2004, fireworks were designed to land on the sea then explode, certainly know how to do it in Spain, this was taken at a festival in Ibiza. 3meg camera i think
  24. Central News predicted 6c here and maybe down to 3c in rural parts, currently 2c probabley dropped a little lower at maybe 5.00am. must of come close to 1c in some places. Also have thick fog in the valley.
