Definitely looking further north and seems to be on course to be pushing well into Ulster...anyone want to take a guess at how far north the precipitation line will go?

Can anybody explain the physics behind shower activity? Always fascinates me why some showers will push well inland and maintain their intensity, whilst other times (like today) they disintegrate 20-30 miles inland. Some really beefy showers completely fell apart this afternoon within 15 miles of travel.

That last band of showers has broken up significantly when it crossed Donegal...obviously not too keen on Tyrone

Last night was an absolute bust but to be fair Friday evening and into the weekend looks much better. Gavs weather video shows this nicely...

Just dropped the kids off at creche there and got a good look at Mullaghcarn mountain outside Omagh. Even at 550m asl there is only really a dusting of snow, pathetic.

Yeah, we don't do as well with a more northerly component compared to a proper NW flow. My weather station reading 1 degree here and went outside to car which is covered in ice, must have been freezing rain as it doesn't look frozen 6ft away. Roads will be treacherous.

Same as that biglad ...temp was 2.9 at 8am and now dropped to 1.7

Occasional wintry showers falling onto frozen surfaces brings the potential for icy stretches this evening, overnight and into Thursday morning. At lower levels most of the showers will be a mix of rain, sleet or wet snow, but on high ground above 200m, 1-3 cm of snow may fall in places especially across the north. Smaller snow accumulations can't be ruled out at lower levels.

For the next two weeks ridging/positive geopotential height anomalies near Greenland will anchor troughing/negative geopotential height anomalies across Europe coupled with normal to below normal temperatures for much of Europe but especially Northern Europe including the United Kingdom (UK). In addition, the atmosphere is becoming stacked (the stratosphere and troposphere are aligned) so that the main center of the stratospheric polar vortex (PV) between the Urals and Scandinavia will help to anchor a strong negative height center in the mid-troposphere in the same region below.
Get off that fence @mountain shadow and get 2 tonnes more wood @Rocheydub

Sorry Pom, wasn't online since yesterday morning. Yeah it was some sight, serious amount of people been walking round it over the Xmas period. Not long home from another walk round it and its still frozen although not white with the snow. Stole this pic from a friend from the other side of the Lough.

Looks like I was in the sweet spot but I'm at work in Carryduff!!
BTW, that was a seriously difficult drive this morning. The grit must have been washed off road, water froze and snow fell.
