  1. Morning folks, well the weather is certainly looking interesting again over the next few days with the primary concern over later on today and more particularly tomorrow with some torrential rain and widespread Gales or even Severe Gales. Looks like tomorrow's low pressure system could pack quite a punch with widespread 50-60mph across Southern England and Wales and the possibility of 70mph+ in central and Northern England and southern Scotland. I'm very surprised that the Met Office haven't seen it fit to give it the Clodagh title yet.
  2. Really blowing a hoolie out there now and I almost turned into a Brass Monkey when I went out earlier, brrrrr..... :cold:
  3. Afternoon folks, well I don't know if we had any snow here during the night but it was lashing down with rain a little earlier and throughout the morning the wind considerably picked up and as I ventured out to collect something from the post office I certainly got a nasty shock to the system when I felt that northerly blowing straight through me, I had my thick winter coat on too but it still made me shudder it's quite strong too probably gusting 40-50mph at times as a guess.
  4. Maybe they only count storms off the Atlantic which have more cyclonic characteristics.
  5. Considering the Met Office are issuing widespread warnings for wind for tonight and tomorrow with gusts predicted in the 50-70mph range isn't this getting a storm title? Especially given that it's unusual to get such wind strengths from a Northerly direction.
  6. Met Office have issued warnings for Wind and Snow for tomorrow night into the first half of Saturday.
  7. Evening folks I've not been on here since Barney left us, not a lot to report here a very brief spell of 50-60mph gusts at around 9 to 10pm'ish and as I left for work yesterday morning there was a small tree that had been uprooted just around the corner from us and had smashed through someone's front drive plastic fence. Whoever compared it to 2002 must have been experiencing far far worse winds then we got here the other night because 2002 was far more severe from what I remember, we had gusts in the 70-80mph range for a good few hours that morning, I was only about 15/16 but I remember it well and the one a couple of years before that which happened during the night and was even stronger and by far the most intense storm I can recall with regular gusts of 80-90mph at one stage I'd say they weren't far off 100mph. I'm surprised it didn't do a lot more damage then it did. St'Jude seemed to do quite a lot of damage even though we only officially recorded gusts into the 60's and it was a lot more short lived. To me Barney was nothing more then an ordinary autumnal Gale, but I know it was worse in other places especially in Ireland and west Wales!
  8. Well that's normal for most storms I think, St Jude was alot more of a case and blink and you'll miss it. It barely lasted an hour lol. Jeez man, you're just up the road from me too. I bet it was howling across the top of Warley Hill last night.
  9. It's a moderate storm here now lol. A strong Gale but nothing exceptional or particularly damaging, maybe a few branches down in the morning or a small tree and a few fence panels blown through!
  10. I take back what I said earlier I spoke too soon, Barney heard me and is now getting VERY angry! Just had a 60+ I'd say!
  11. Upminster always seems to dodge the worst of severe weather, I must live in the most boring weather bubble in the country.
  12. It's got a bit more interesting here in the last 15 mins or so, a squally spell of about 50-55mph.
  13. Well if the worst is over that wasn't much of a storm, about as menacing as the cute and cuddly dinosaur of the same name. A sustained spell of 60mph+ gusts might have been worthy of giving Storm status but please Met Office if we're going to start giving storm names every time anything more then a strong breeze comes through then we've all turned abit soft. Most we've had here is the odd 50mph gust!
  14. It's getting pretty wild here now, gusts over 50mph I'd guess.
  15. Our gusts are literally in sync with each other we just had those gusts too lol. Picking up again now, this has been a very stop / starter storm so far but as yet nothing much above 45mph here I'd say.
  16. Same here, been quiet for about 40 mins now very odd and slightly unnerving.
  17. The worst of it hasn't arrived yet here in Essex, it'll ramp up after about 8 o'clock then there'll be 3 or 4 hours of Severe Gales.
  18. Just saw the latest forecast, looks like the strongest of it is going to be between 8pm and midnight here with gusts around 55-60mph possibly a bit more. It's getting well into the 40's out there now, it's wild out there folks so take care!
  19. Problem is though you'd need night-vision. I think we're expecting the peak winds about the same time as you!
  20. WOAH just had our biggest gust yet by far, must have been topping 50mph our double glazed windows just creaked
  21. It's gone all quiet here, for the time being at least.
  22. What sort of maximum gusts can I expect to see here in Upminster (Essex)?
  23. Same here in Essex, occasional 35-40mph gusts but then like 5 to 10 minute lulls in between. I still think the strongest of the winds are a few hours away though.
