  1. You picked a hell of a weekend for all that travelling. If you get get away from Dover safely you will be fine, but the trouble will be bad for you up north as well, a large snow event coming down, so you will experience lots of cold travelling what ever you choose. Just grin and go for it, it is only snow, and if you are prepared for delays you will be ok. Appreciate that, its just clipping you, but its a long stream, its set to continue for hours at the present track and just keeps feeding itself, so those that are getting it will be experiencing a nice fat dump of snow, and good on them!
  2. Yep the snow is Thanet bound, it would seem that the stretch of land between Faversham to Birchington down to Canterbury that traditionally does get a lot of snow, has missed out with kentish streams going further west and now further east. Comical really, the only hope now is for the snow from the north to come steaming down in the next 36 hours (if there will be any left!). You never know it may well change however and the stream could change direction but I can't see it myself. GO FOR IT!
  3. There was snow there yesterday, from about 2 to 5pm but they have not really seen anything since. So I would say you are fine. The forecast for today looks ok for you. I am heading that way to go sledging with the kids and walking in the woods etc... near Ashford. The place that will see a lot of snow and is seeing a lot of snow is the Isle of thanet that has a Kent Streamer and that is set to be with them all day, in fact they are getting pounded!
  4. Think that might be it for most of Kent apart from a few isolated heavy flurries? Cant see anything else with huge potential.
  5. Some bad news.... The northerly has really kicked in again, its up to 18 mph at Whitstable on the beach now, so that lovely kent streamer is going to not make us but head straight south, if you check the radar it has already started that deteriation.
  6. Yes, just got back from journey round outside Neil. I have been looking at that as well, its light snow however, but the odd bigger one in there. Perhaps we may just get some luck and watch them grow but if not they will just be like fluuries. On the snow tour I covered: Whitstable: 1 to 2 cm's Blean: 3 to 5 cm's Rouch Common: 3 to 5 cm's Canterbury: 2 to 3 cm's Boughton: 4 cm's
  7. OK, I have done some more tracking and plotting and its a really fun one to do as a lot happening in the north sea and also a lot happening just outside the UK radar but you can see it over germany and netherlands developing, with also a downward track from scandinavia is making fun. From what I can see it looks like today might well turn into some fun conditions still for the south east and kent, essex and suffolk. It is very clear that its building now, with the heat of the sea things are getting interesting. I will go out on a limb here and say in about 4 to 5 hrs thats 2 to 3pm we may get another dump of good quality snow. Now I could be 100% wrong, or miss the plot, but I think this is setting itself up nice.
  8. OK guys and Gals lets get this thread back to forecasting the next batch of snow activity, activity offshore clearly evident and also some activity over the weekend. Thoughts anyone...?
  9. Yes it is closed flights are suspended at present and diverted.
  10. Yep, I was listening to Kate forecasting on BBC Radio, I mean she was totally wrong in my opinion about this morning. She said that central and east Kentw will get later on this morning 5 to 10 cm's as the showers push south to south east, well I dont know what radar and satellite she is looking at because it is not the same images we have....
  11. I have just listened to the radio forecast, also watched the TV and stuff, I must be looking at different images than these people is all I can say, because I have totally different conditions forecast this morning for Central to East Kent than what they are predicting. Does anyone else agree with me, over this?
  12. I do like what is happening on the satellite and charts, plus radar, there is a lot of moisture out there it is now a case of tracking it and as soon as it hits that north sea it will with grow.
  13. Does anyone have any thoughts about the next wave in the day there is certainly things looking interesting in Europe that I like the look of. And finding interesting how its forming up for the south east. sure is, I like the movement of the activity over the low countries in Europe and there seems to be a lot of things going on in the chart. All I know is that here on at Whitstable, Kent we only got a few cm's in teh past hour an half, that damn wind last night would not change until it was too late!
  14. Yep agreed with all points, still keeps me active on the charts.
  15. I am not 100% sure at this point, not happy with the wind direction at present, not exactly the direction that had been originally chartered, so I am going to spend some hous re-plotting manually this morning and see if it will be that bad. No doubt that some snow will fall in Kent but the current rotations in the north sea are falling short, although I am banking on the warm water to create an effect like in the great lakes in the US (Kind of lake snow effect), where they run lift more moisture and then dump large quantities. Now that is a very good possibility of that for sure, the water is warm compared to air temps, and this makes a big difference compared to late January and February snow when water is coolest. So I am going to sit on the fence on this one until little later on in the day.
  16. I hear your argument but I do not agree with it. I think you are in a good position for most easterly directional snow, being an estuary will always vary on snowfall, and there has been lots of times I have looked across at you from Kent and seen you getting the action. Last year was a one off great event for an area that perhaps would not have seen much in the past, however if you goback in history you have had many a good dump in Southend, Essex including the sea freezing over so I really dont think you have too much to worry about. If you want someone to say you will get snow, then I would say you have as good as chance as most of the south east, I would give your location at least 70 to 80% chance for Thursday evening to see a nice size. What a lot of people need to remember on here is that some warmth is going to occur tomorrow, this is an important factor also, it shoudl in Essex and Kent get up to between 4 to 5, maybe higher in a few spots and maybe lower in others. The question then comes down to local geography and weather skills as to when you get the snow, i.e. will it be Rain, then sleet then eventually snow or Snow from the offset. In short we really all need the snow to arrive late as possible, the temperatures need to be dropping at ground level and we need to see significant movement. I would say that I believe Kent from Medway drawing a line to Dover and going Eastward standards a 95% chance of a good hit, I would give 75 to 95% to rest of Kent and Sussex and I would give your area of Esses a 70 to 80% chance maybe even higher. Ofcourse this could be total crap by tomorrow mornings, its just too early to be exact! Its a bit like WW2 we just need to see what comes in over the radar as the day progresses... its a waiting game, with out Michael Caine on the phone! Put it this way, the snow is likely to keep falling from Thursday evening through to well into Friday and then lots of heavy showers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and to be honest then its a 50/50 as to whether it continues all week or changes and warms.... personally I am praying to the almighty lord that this year he lets more snow over more of the south east and that it can hang in there, snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning and as this might be my last Christmas in the United Kingdom as i am moving to the USA with all probability I would like to actually see a WHITE CHRISTMAS in my town that I was born in, because in 38 years it has not happened!
  17. Yep I agree with you, coming from the east is brilliant for Snow from Anglia to Kent, and Kent always gets overlooked by the BBC presenters until it hits then they are all over it... I would say that I think we will see a nice dumping but I really dont expect to see action until late Thursday with regards to good snow. What worries me is the fools that will think the dusting we could faintly get today will be the SNOW... then they think its all over and the main event is still to come. maybe......!
  18. This is spot on in my book, and exactly what I was looking at a few days ago and still agree with it. I think this could be like the late 1980's for from a line from Medway down to Dover and everything eastward receiving some good snow at varying depths. Looks like you will be sledging those hills round Tyler Hill then....
  19. Do not take any notice of that rubbish they are pumping out, they are not sure of whats going on and typical of the presenters they are using old information, Snow is coming, how much and the exact timing is sketchy, but don't worry it is coming.
  20. You will have a bad journey, you need to pack some blankets, a shovel and other things just in case, drive sensible and you will be ok, but expect biting cold wind chill and expect snow. Believe me having lived in countries with -30C and been in some heavy snow storms this will not be like that, just be careful. Remember its very hard to forecast depth of snow, and that is always the issue!
  21. Yeah very funny video, got the comments correct. Francis Wilson I have full respect for the bloke is a legend when it comes to snow forecasts, I would say he gets it about 9/10 times right on the spot!
  22. Yep many of you will remember that from last winter, I only use it in the winter... just to keep you all smiling! Just a bit of fun!
  23. This is exactly why you should not take any notice of the BBC anymore, the past 5 years have been a contant decline of error and failed weather systems. I have a simple theory, if they predict it bad, you don't get it bad, if they predict a small covering you get a good dump... if they say it will be 25C its 29 or 30C.... it goes on. When I am in the US storm chasing they always say BBC and UK Met office is poor now, many years ago they were rather good. Anyway best to just work the charts yourself, and get excited by them. I would also say that the fun that will happen because of the BBC broadcast will be interesting, local road networks will not grit because of Rain, others will think it will not happen etc... and the general public will just follow suit! Now regarding snow for Kent, Snow is possible on Wednesday but I would edge more of something fun from Thursday to Saturday and then again Sunday maybe, but best thing because weather on the British Isles changes so fast, it would be better to start to get excited once actual clouds start to appear on the horizon! Happy Hunting, I got my snow chains ready and waiting!
  24. Stu, you need to get your partner to enjoy the experience... I just drag the family about with me like a team, as long as I stop where a pool is they are happy, although I think the hurricanes are starting to really starting annoy the family a bit... but then again the southern states through May to October is the best time, they get the sun, tropical heat, and I get my storms.... and how I love them.
  25. Everything east of Faversham is regarded as North East Kent Coast. If that helps.
