  1. Staffs moorlands Have been on nights this week, so my sleep pattern is totally up the swany ,fully awake now. It's been a funny week weather wise but snow has not been lacking, plenty of rain showers coming in through the Cheshire gap and quickly turning to snow as it hits the higher ground. Low of -4 Friday night so got to try out my new hat. Snow finished here at 3,30 but all looking stunning outside. 5cm at my place temp holding at 0 currently. Will travel down to Stoke this afternoon for the big match looks like it's going to be a cold one so may add something warming to my drink
  2. I have a weeks holiday mid January in the lake district hope the forecast works out. A colder spell during late December is also welcome. Putting a forecast together for three months is not something I would like to do in a million years so my hats off too Ed &Tony
  3. Stopped now, but had to go out side, had to, it would be rude not too. Depth measured at just over 4cm
  4. Time to open the curtains pour a glass of Scotland's finest and chill out to some Enya
  5. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS, Everything has gone all white.
  6. brief burst of snow at 2035 just before I left work, bracing walk home at 2100 first time I've had to wear gloves.
  7. I would like to ask a question for those who are a lot more in the know than my humble self. Is any body able to define as a rough percentage the overall success of the different model outputs.
  8. Not sure if the locals would like it though, having something the size of your average family car come walking past your window might be of some concern. Spent a week in Akureyri, very friendly people and great scenery.
  9. SUPER GLUE AT THE READY THE FOR WHEN MY ROOF BLOWS OFF. Oh hang on, just seen where the info came from. Waste of good tree pulp.
  10. 252 asl but alas west side, not east, same as ian61 Too much moisture I guess, mush not powder. Only thing I hate about winter is the bleeding cold incessant rain.
  11. If it wasn't for the lack of sunlight I would put my life savings on it not being mid November. very weird. Oh well the good old British weather will do what it feels like, just like normal.
  12. Stunning first day of November, bright sunshine from first thing until awesome sunset. Had to drive down into Stoke for an hour of fog but Staffordshire Moorlands welcomed me back with wall to wall sunshine. More of the same please
  13. Well, last day of October and not one morning frost. Also due to the lack of any significant wind during this month I have yet to see leaf fall reach it's peak. Up side though my gardens are full of colour for a little longer than usual
  14. Foggy start this morning but the sun is starting to break it up current temp 8c.
  15. Total waste of wood pulp, don't understand why people still buy them.
  16. Enjoy the altitude and hopefully some chilly morning walks
  17. Started off very grey and damp today, but cleared up to give a pleasant afternoon. Got lots of tiding up done out side, current temp 9.5c and overcast. Still awaiting my first frost
  18. I walk to work and back every day regardless of the weather and also take a quick stroll during lunch break. I could of course run two cars but have yet to get that lazy. Besides Dancewithwings is spot on
  19. On the transport issue during a snow fall two things come to mind one recent the other from my childhood. We have taken on some new staff at my place of work over the last six months, one of them asked me do they have to phone in if it snows. I asked them how far away they lived, to which I was told 2 1/2 miles, I then told them that they would have to walk in. The look of horror on his face was very interesting to see. Yes you have legs and yes they are usable. Long before health and safety I remember a guy who used to get to work on a small moped, his way of doing it was to bolt on a pair of home made skies to the front and wrap a chain around the back wheel. Those not lucky enough to have transport caught the bus if running or walked if not.
  20. Really like what you have done with a home based computer. Once upon a time far in the distant past I was an Oceanographer, so I can appreciate how much time and effort you have put into completing this task. Watching the SST closely and awaiting the results from Rapid's latest sail. Interesting and uncertain times ahead.
  21. Mixed bag today, 6am overcast 6c, 9am 10c clear skies, 12am 11c overcast, 3pm 11c intermittent cloud cover. Up side, good day to start the gardens clean up
  22. over cast and grey for most of the afternoon, just had some light drizzle pass over temp now 10c. Fingers crossed that the cloud cover goes away later
  23. Had expected a touch of ground frost this morning but the min overnight temp was 4.5c, Intermittent cloud cover since I woke at 6am, but is turning into another pleasant Autumn day. Over the last week have seen numerous flocks of geese fly over heading west, but have just witnessed the biggest single group I have ever seen. Using my tried and tested method I estimated at 120-130.Winter is coming (now where have I heard that phrase before)
  24. Venus should be visible at 6am Due East, if you have dark enough skies you should also be able to make out Saturn and maybe Mars. In their current positions they make it possible to visualise with the naked eye the arcs the planets take on their journey around the sun. I intend on making the most of this weather whilst it lasts. As for location NE Staffordshire.
