  1. Sitting in Marazion car park watching showers coming on across the bay. Came down to watch the sun set. Might be out of luck!;
  2. I avoid the modelling/Atlantic storm threads this time of year. As you say there are plenty love a storm and are focussing on any signs of a brewing one,much like I look for snow and will seize on the tiniest glimmer of one. The vast majority come to nothing significant though. I stick to the met for gale warnings and then look a bit closer 24/36 hours out and no sooner.Maybe one day I'll overcome it and also get excited about potential storms, but I suspect its something I'll just have to cope with
  3. Noticed a lot of full/overflowing rivers and streams in Somerset yesterday
  4. It was the last bad night I've had so far. I spend a lot of time in Cornwall now and being routinely exposed to strong winds(and outside a lot of the time) has really helped me manage my anxiety. Like a home made exposure therapy. But,yes,it's horrible and people can be unkind which really isn't helpful
  5. Thank you lassie. Like all phobias it's irrational. I know I'm safe but it doesn't stop me getting anxious about stormy weather. It's the noise mainly. I do have a room in the house which is,away from SW/W/S winds and hide in there with headphones if need be! I've been slowly improving over the years tho. I spend a lot of time in Cornwall and I've been increasing my exposure to higher winds gradually including going outside in high winds and driving rain(not as scary as it sounds). The valentines storm was a small set back for me, but it's general progress. Apologies for going OT btw. Now as for those birds I was out walking home one evening last week and the birds were still singing at 9pm!!
  6. Penzance...front through 10C 22/40mph, tho windier in night. Patches of blue sky, but looks like more rain incoming
  7. I'm also very anxious about very windy weather.I carry meds with me if stormy weather is forecast,but I'm slowly improving. I avoid the Atlantic storm thread unless I see a weather warning from the met and then I arm myself with as much info as possible. The last time I struggled was Valentines day 2014 but I just about coped with the rest of that winter. I feel for you, but I also understand lots of people love extreme weather in all it's forms
  8. Not a bad evening at all in far SW.Rain has stopped and wind dropped considerably. 9C.Lovely evening for the last night of the Mousehole harbour lights(sorry OT)
  9. Driving down the A30 into a stiff SW was interesting. 8.5C .Cornish mizzle.
  10. En route to Penzance from Oxfordshire. Now in Taunton. Weather has been varying degrees of wet from mist to heavy showers. Not greatest driving conditions so this could be a long journey .
  11. Frost!! Low of -1 at bedtime (3am). Rising ahead of the rain. Happy new year people
  12. In midst of squall now. Hit just as I exited station with paper carrier bags of course!
  13. I was wondering if what we experienced was due to a secondary low?? Like I said it wasn't what we'd expected.
  14. I'm 40 miles west of London and we've had a noisy day. Yet my family in London tell me it's 'just been a bit windy'!
  15. Mainly from the wind. A couple of fence panels have gone and some roofing felt has gone from my shed. Small branches are down. It seems fairly local. Eight miles down the road there's no sign of a storm at all.
  16. The storm had the biggest impacts of any of the six so far here! And it wasn't forecast to do so. Just goes to show how difficult it is to forecast storms
  17. My opinion....from a one side I'm quote glad of a mild winter. The OH works outdoors and light already curtails his hours this time of year, so we're quite happy for the grass to keep growing!! However, this year seems to have been one continuous season of yuk. I'd rather see a few weeks in the 80s for summer, a few weeks above freezing for winter and the rest of the year an ambient 60!
  18. Ah thanks. True enough the trees aren't in leaf but we have had damage to the fence and shed roof. Sustained winds between 30 and 36 this morning according to local met office stats. It's by far the strongest winds we've had this winter and we've had warning for the previous storms which was why it surprised me.
