Because most people don't like heating costs, getting up early to scrape their car, or breaking an ankle on the way to post a letter. And in summer they do often describe returning to moderate temps after hot spells in terms of "relief".
Not sad to see a return to mild. Caught a bad cold at the turn of the year which took two weeks to shake off, and it's left me with a cough. The cold with being ill has made me feel miserable most of Jan.
We can already grow fairly tender plants. I live in rural Beds and -5C is about as cold as it gets. I guess our winters will become more Isle of Scilly like in 50 years with few frosts even!
I don't believe in windchill, especially for temps that aren't that cold anyway. It's a poor unspecific measure and a non event in these kinds of temps if you're wearing standard winter dress.
For all the talk of cold coming, because the forecast have been milder than reality here it's going to actually be the same to slightly warmer here than it's been.
