  1. not unusual to have snow at this time of year..probably the amount that fell and the relatively low day time temps was more akin to what you would expect in December..we had close on 20cm of snow and a max temp of -7c..more likely to see wet snow this time of year rather than the powder stuff.
  2. Had to spend an hour shoveling my drive and pavements yesterday no fun.
  3. lots of people do have winter tyres here and swap their all season ones..depends on the vehicle you drive and the type of snow you get...anyway its still snowing temp -7c..do i expect this weather to be the forerunner of a cold snowy one for my location..i dont think so.
  4. nope i have never had winter tyres and i have been here nearly 4 years.
  5. i did show a link in one of my previous posts to all the live traffic cams in Calgary
  6. not really just a dusting a few hours light snowfall over a wide area that's all. A much more severe snowfall across southern Alberta and Saskatchewan today though.
  7. Had close to 15cm of snow overnight and is still coming down....now for all of those who says the UK should take note of places like Canada when it comes to dealing with snow...i left my house at 5.15am for work, not one single road had been cleared not even the main highways nor did i see a single snow plow on my drive to work...and this storm had been forecast for the last 4 or 5 days!
  8. Cold air arrived in Western Canada a few days ago..keep up!
  9. http://www.calgary.c...ic-Cameras.aspxtry that? Memorial drive is near to my office
  10. its not unusual for it snow at this time of the year..the third week in October usually sees the first snow although we did have snow 2 week ago..this summer and autumn have been different to 2010..what happens between mid November and the beginning of Dec will determine what kind of winter we will have here.
  11. its been snowing on and off since sat...all be it lightly..high yesterday -4c same kind of thing today..then we have a large system moving in later today which could dump 20-25cms of snow in around the city by Wednesday..staying below freezing all week.
  12. dont tell me things like that just waiting to watch match of the day..i dont look at results so i can watch the games not knowing
  13. mostly gas..there more natural gas in in N America than you can shake a stick at
  14. as i have said before qualifications is no measure of intelligence...i have worked with people who have masters degrees who are thick as s**t and people with no qualifications who are too damn clever.
  15. What does having an A level physics bring to the table?..when i was at school learning about the weather was part of geography not physics?
  16. and the one before that was in 2006/7 and we all remember what happened that winter...or 97/98..i think in Europe El Nino conditions effects are swayed by lots of other effects that can influence the weather...for example here in N.America where El nino and La nina have a huge effect...we found last winter other factors overrode the then La Nina signal to change a nailed on brutal cold winter into one of the mildest winters on record.
  17. i thought it was the other way round EL Nino tends to cause warmer winters in northern Europe and colder winters in southern Europe..but a very weak El Nino event would have a very much lesser effect on the weather in Europe than it would in N.America.
  18. its not showing off its quite depressing...lots of jobs depending on what you do?
  19. Winter looks like kicking into full swing early here..i have already had 2 snow days early in October now from sat onwards temperatures are at or below freezing with snow on and off through until the beginning of November
