  1. most of it was basic schoolboy geography not ground breaking scientific enlightenment..it was was 30 mins of factual content then 30 mins of padding, over dramatics and general a#seing around!
  2. i watched this thinking it would be interesting..but found it pretty poor and the over the top dramatics just made things worse..like when they were diving in the lake the lake could drain at any time so we have attached life lines to the divers..no sh*t einstein..and it seems the sea it self could be another cause for the calving of icebergs..no really?..water flowing to the bottom of the glacier and gravity seem to be the cause of why the glacier is moving..id never have guessed?..and whats the doc doing there?..i know lets do an experiment as to why mosquitoes bite more people than others..now your just wasting my time!!
  3. their N.American forecast last year was 100% incorrect (well for Canada anyway)
  4. my oldest son was born on the 24th August 1997..thanks for the forecast.
  5. http://www.accuweath...l-update/911480 here is the November outlook for North America almost the exact same weather pattern to November 2010..note the warm weather for north east Canada this is a match for a large block across Greenland
  6. here we will have a brief warm up over the weekend and into the first part of next week..before those sub zero daytime temps and snow return from midweek onwards.
  7. i post all year round too..im not fussed about snow cold or storms because i get more of those weather types than you can shake a stick at..i live in an area that has a continental weather type..rather than maritime..i do miss those breezy sunshine and showers type weather you get back home..i dont get that here.
  8. Here is a question? If start warming does disrupt the polar vortex and encourage NH blocking are there areas that this blocking is more likely to occur or is it dependent on where the warming takes place?..or its just pot luck?
  9. Came in at 1.3c here not bad considering we had 7 days over 20c and highest maximum of the month was 26c
  10. Hers something that may surprise you they dont have cats eyes in the roads here where i live..driving in fog at night is a huge problem once out of the city as even the motorways dont have them and the roads aren't lit either.
  11. have you noticed how quickly it gets dark on the equator?..i spent a bit of time in Singapore..it takes about 15 mins to go from daylight to pitch darkness after sunset...no good if you still have a few overs to play in a one dayer at sun down.
  12. The thing with Calgary its not unusual for it to be +20c or -15c at this time of year. October can hang onto summer or winter can start early
  13. it would be interesting to see the snow cover at this time preceding very mild winters like 88-89 or 2006-7
  14. no nothing to do with the weather..The UK is just better than Canada or the USA....dont believe the stuff you read in the papers or see on TV..like a better life abroad or poms in paradise because it just isn't true...its like the tv show Life on Mars....i got on a plane and woke up in 1985...am i dreaming?..in a coma? or traveling in time?..no im in Canada...now if i can just work out how to get home lol
  15. I think if i ever move back to the UK (sooner rather than later hopefully) my preference would be for dry relatively cold winters.
  16. Did anyone mention 1983?..maybe an opposite of 2012 a very wet spring followed by a relatively hot dry summer from memory.
  17. October could end up being between 0 -1c here which would be the equivalent of a very cold UK winter month
  18. Judging by this latest predictions if anything we are heading into a weak La Nina state over the winter.
  19. i was looking at the Northern Hemisphere snow cover yes its above average now..but can change in a blink of an eye this time next week could very well be below average again...its not unremarkable to have snow here at this time of the year for it to last into the winter would be more of a story though
  20. A lot of the snow in my neck of the woods will be gone this time next week..as we enter a significant warm up heading towards the weekend..15/16c forecast for Saturday
  21. you want to live where i am went out for a walk tis -9c with a windchill of -16c had over a week of sub zero daytime temps and on an off snow and its not even november yet...might have to move to palm springs or phoenix at this rate.
