  1. highest temp 29.7c on 10/06/07 at 15.31

rainfall this year so far 815mm

i dont believe this temp!!..i live in exeter..stats show the temp for exeter devon for the 10th of june ...max 20c ..min 10c...highest temp in june was 21.5c on the 9th....also it is the highest recorded so far this summer in this neck of the woods.

  2. My point though is that no matter how big the universe, and no matter how many planets are like Earth with all the ingredients we know of for life, we still don't have any idea whatsoever how life started do we? Unless we know that, we just can't say "life is common" because how can we say that if we don't know how it started here on Earth?

It could be an exceptionally rare event that came about as a freak mixture of the perfect conditions, so freak that it may have never happened before and never happened elsewhere. After all, life only started on Earth once. Since there is of yet no evidence for ET, this possibility is looking the most likely.

Of course, ultimately, I don't know. Nobody does. But if we are to make an educated guess, logic weighs towards that we are alone.

off course many believe there could be billions of different universes!!....makes the mind boggle

  3. The latest temperature according to the Metoffice is 15.4c which is 1.1c below the 71-000 average.

    The average temperautre accordin to the GFS from today until the 31st is 14.3c (a low calculation due to some unlikely cold minima on the last 3 nights, typically 7c) meaning by the end of the month the average temperature will be;

15.2c. 0.8c below the 61-90 average and 1.3c below the 71-000 average. Or 1.7c below the 2000-2007 average and 1.6c below the 1997-2007 average.

If it was to end up at 15.2c it would make this July around the top 85 coldest julys in history.

    i think u missed 4.7c below the 2006 average...how many averages do u need???

  4. Really wet Julys have been pretty scarce since 1961, this is the 5th one to break the 90mm barrier since then. Its definitely going to be the wettest July since 1988 now.

The period August 2006-July 2007 has been pretty wet, up to 1158.4mm so far. The 12 month rainfall average is 919.7mm

some areas were reproting up 5inches or 125mm of rain..how do u colate your figs for england and wales...where do they come from...are there a set number of usuable stations?

  5. sounds to me that if you lived in the middle ages you would have believed the earth was flat...or the sun went round the earth etc...truth is the universe and all that it encompasses if it is the only universe out there..is way beyond our limited intelligence...as far as the human race is concerend it is my belief that we havnt even dipped our toe into the ocean of knowledge as yet!

  6. Well, in the last year, we have had:

    - The warmest ever month (July, 2006)

    - The warmest ever July (2006)

    - The warmest ever day in many parts, including Wales. (July 19th, 2006)

    - The warmest ever September (2006)

    - The warmest ever Autumn (2006)

    - The warmest ever 12 month period (this record still holds I believe)

    - The warmest ever first half to a year (2007)

    - 3rd warmest summer ever (think it was third, top 5 anyway. 2006)

    - 2nd warmest winter ever (think it was 2nd, again, correct if wrong. 2006-2007)

    - Warmest ever April ever (2007)

All of this in just over a year! Now, looking at those facts, I don't see any sort of sign of a cooling trend, do you?

the warmest winter on record in the south west

  7. Well i must say that my punt for the 1st-10th of 15.2C-15.4C proved a good one, and instead the CET looks to be lower, at 15C or even 14.9C on the 10th.

While i'll probably change this before the 11th, currently i expect the period 11th-20th to record a CET around average, which is 16.5C for that ten day period, meaning that by the 20th, i expect the CET to be 15.9C-16.1C.

The last third of the month is looking average or below, so at this stage, i would call for a CET between 15.3C-16.4C.

Note, i may revise my punt for the second third of the month on the 10th.

how many punts do u need???...if u keep revise it on a day 2 day basis your bound to be right...stick to one guess like evryone else..greedy guts!!

  8. The SSTa config doesn't get any better right now for a -ve NAO for this winter, according to Chuck over on easternwxus it would seemingly rank easily as one of the most -ve NAO winters nearly on par with 62-63, doesn't mean same winter of course but a very -ve NAO combined with the easterly QBO helping northern blocking and a weak La Nina, looks similar to 95-96 winter but the easterly QBO could mean possibly even more northern blocking.

winter 95-96 was no great shakes!!! :good:

  9. Since it looks as though we're having the wettest May-June period for England and Wales since 1860, here's a look back at that year

    Jan: 3.5

    Feb: 1.7

    Mar: 4.7

    Apr: 5.9

    May: 11.5

    Jun: 12.3

    Jul: 14.5

    Aug: 13.6

    Sep: 11.2

    Oct: 9.8

    Nov: 4.5

    Dec 1.5

    Annual CET: 7.89

Joint 12th coldest year in the CET records

    4th coldest summer with 13.5

Wettest May-June period on record with 250.1mm

Wettest June on record with 157.1mm

10th wettest August on record with 148.5mm

4th wettest summer on record with 370.8mm

every month below the 61-90 ave let alone 71-00...doubt that will happen again!!

  10. i do rememba that period cus we went abroad 4 the 1st time ..i was 13 went 2 france..and always rememba it being cool and dull...however the winter that followed wasnt anything out of the ordinary..maybe your confused with winter 81-82..rather than 80-81?

  11. I'm especially pleased by the number of responses on this subject, thanks everyone for your contributions so far.

It would appear thant those who have responded seem to agree with my thoughts in most respects and it is good from my perspective that people are quoting from the period since 1990 as i don't remember much beyound that, thanks for this aswell.

In summary so far the 90's seem to be winning hands down from the noughties. Outside of the summer months the noughties so far have produced months that most do not rate.

The period 1993-97 seems to be one full of memorable and appreciated months. I was 15-19 at the time and my memories of this period are very sharp and i would agree it did seem to produce some very interesting and more seasonal months that what we have had since 1997, i wish we could have a similiar period of weather now, these last few years have been non-entities largely exception winter 05/06 and ok july 2006 and august 2003 and april 2007 for their heat. Record breaking winter months do not register in my book as memorable appreciative.

winter 05/06 can be classed as a non entity as far as im concerend!
