Still managed to avoid storms or anything interesting, passed through peterborough yesterday for a couple hours and they were still pumping out water from the friday flooding next to the bus station and a car park opposite the train station was still waterlogged
-
Spent the weekend in Kings Lynn where we had a good chance on Saturday and still managed to miss everything but a few light showers on sunday... I think the storms avoid me!
-
what time do we expect storms to kick off tomorrow?

Me and @Met4Cast have issued an early outlook for tomorrow, highlighting our preferred areas for thunderstorms tomorrow. Could be a very active day!
I’m heading up to Kings Lynn area for the weekend in the morning so here’s hoping I finally get to see my first lightning of the year..

66mm here today, an inch of which fell in just an hour this afternoon during a long torrential spell
probably reach the 70mm mark today, the wettest summer days i can remember, although i’m normally not in this region so who knows when it was last like this locally

crazy rain in Wellingborough the past half hour, absolutely drenched in seconds, roads have looked like rivers for a couple hours now so i won’t be surprised to here some flooding reports shortly. watching radar it seemed to pulse and really go for it at the exact time i was outside

I’ve given up entirely with the Met warning areas, they have been shockingly poor this season.
NW England being under the yellow thunderstorm warning yesterday as an example.
I know people are justifying the warning because of the high rain totals being more widespread and less likely confined to more southeastern areas but surely they could’ve issued a regular rain warning..

The nw hourly forecast is showing about 45mm of rain here tomorrow, almost 20mm in 2 hours, but not much chance of thunder apparently.. hopefully it’s not just a torrential mess and we do get a nice display

i can't see anything coming this far north-west tonight, so off to bed i go.. with the windows wide open just in case so i don't miss anything!
good luck to those staying up or out chasing, will look forward to seeing peoples pics and vids in the morning

Imagine what the view would be like from inside that little circular clearing in the channel behind that big cell..

tiny black ones? thrips, not noticed any here yet
yep, first day i’ve seen any this year and they’re out in full force

lots of thunder flies out today in the garden, taking that as a good luck for tonight

Fingers crossed for mid week or whenever they’re expected here, a proper storm this year wouldn’t go amiss
-
Still yet to have a storm here this year in Wellingborough, missed them by several miles in every direction! Any chance of this changing in the next couple days, i would’ve thought with how warm and humid it’s felt for a week that surely it’d give something

I do indeed! Back in 2016 I believe that was. That was pretty epic.
Haven’t had a storm comparable since, i’ve never seen torrential rain that compares to it, the streets were all rivers in seconds. I remember it stopping and going outside, and you could see a cloud to ground wall of rain moving towards us again, never seen anything like it! Also can’t forget the strong rotation that we spotted just as it was clearing away, a funnel cloud was spotted not long after just off the coast 20 minutes away

I actually prefer storms when they are in the distance as I find it more relaxing and not so worrying.
We have had absolutely nothing here at Brongest in Wales so far this year.
I’m never satisfied til i’ve had the excitement of torrential rain, shotgun thunder and bright flashes, always loved it!

like i said, it did die out before its reached here but a moderate shower with what i can only call “icy rain”.. big drops of rain with little bits of soft ice inside that splat when they hit the ground, it’s like hail started forming but didn’t quite get a chance or something
-
a nice cell heading my way now but it’s still awhile off so i’m expecting it to die it’s death two minutes before it gets here in Wellingborough

Oh my goodness, absolutely huge crash of thunder just now!
What’s with bedfordshire area getting lots of cells this year and Wellingborough getting nothing but a distant rumble or two once
Hopefully changes today, just want an overhead storm not a couple minutes of drizzle..

Think we’ve been very unlucky in Wellingborough, nothing but light showers and a couple distant rumble two days ago
Hopefully we can change that today, even if it’s just a downpour or some hail.. beats nothing!

I’ve just moved to Wellingborough in Northamptonshire which i presume is classed as part of the midlands thread, but i’m closer here to most others in this thread then I was in Norfolk and feel most comfortable browsing and making the odd weather comment here.. do you think i’m close enough to the regional border to get away with still using the south-east thread or do I have to move?

I'm out of the area for the day tomorrow so you can guarantee some big storms for the county before I get back at 6pm!
