A rather chilly (Bloody brass monkeys, actually!) windy and dry 0.8C! -

Algorithmic (not meteorological) chaos, perhaps? One can see why Meteogroup and Met Office are suggesting something in the region of a 60% chance of January cold...? Edit: I'll be glad when the FV3 finally comes online; I'm still stuck on yesterday's 06Z! -

I wouldn't be worrying unduly, peeps; look at the spread, on the GEFS ensembles: I'd be very surprised, if major changes were not going to happen...? -

Here's the latest set of GEFS ensembles (the latest I can find, anywho!): 2m temps, on the op especially, show a clear and sustained drop, post Day 5. The 850s likewise but the control throws a couple of googlies. SLP, after the 20th, resembles those paper-chain decorations we used to make at school! PS: I had to go back and check the spelling of 'googlies'...But, winter, she's a'comin! -

Quite a lot of c. -13 uppers, away to our northeast? It's a long and winding (and painful) road: -

#NameOurStorms: is it a good idea?
Methuselah replied to Thunderbolt_'s topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Personally, I think the same way of the storm-naming malarkey as I did when it was announced: it's yet another piece of pointless social-media fluff; IMO, as the old system wasn't broke, it never needed fixing... -

00Z GEFS ensembles for Cambridge: 850s don't indicate anything all that special. A definite trend towards rising SLP. 2m temps show a fall of sorts...? -

Uppers would be around -5-7C, I'd guess? Nowt marginal about the grand finale, though: -

Indeed, Ice: when I think of a 'mobile weather pattern', I imagine depression after depression crashing through the UK...This pattern, on the other hand, looks more like one, huge low being pinioned from all sides; it barely moves at all! -

A Met Office spokesperson was on LBC, this morning, saying that all the signals are indicative of severe winter weather, come January! In the mean time, just watch, as the models slowly-but-surely come into line...? -

Look at that cold pool over Europe, and a nascent Scandi high! Any more of this malarkey, and I'll be dead before New Year! PS: I've no idea where the quote box came from! -

A wee word of advice, for newbies and lurkers - if I may: Don't, whenever you see a large and deep depression (forecast to be slow-moving, west of the UK) write it off as 'the usual GFS bias'...as, more often than not, it isn't...? -

Will -8 to -9C uppers be enough to generate a few snow grains, come tomorrow afternoon? Any snow is better than no snow!
