  1. They must be following the models then...keep putting things back 24 hours, until it's too late!
  2. And, with the temperature having (despite long clear periods) remained steady at 4C for four hours, I think it might be best to take all the promises of snow, with a huge pinch of salt...I'm guessing that, come the morning, either sleety rain or nothing at all will be the way of things... Och weel, there's always next year!
  3. I'm more of an enthusiast than an expert, S. Especially where newfangled charts are concerned...
  4. If you mean the one showing stuff coming in off the North Sea, the pink represents snow and the green is rain/sleet...I think.
  5. And the bad news is...that, despite a gin clear sky, the temperature has risen to 5C!
  6. In which case, we can all thank our lucky stars that the models don't control the weather...
  7. By this time next week, we'll all be wearing long johns? Before then, we'll all be in suspenders!
  8. Ooh arrhh...In these here parts, we call them things 'puddles' we does!
  9. Don't know about 'better blocks' - but some beta blockers might come in handy!
  10. Stop press! Temp has now dropped to the dizzy lows of 3C - the sleet might even reach the ground...?
  11. I'm no fan of the CFS, either...though it might verify more often than Piers Corbyn?
  12. Partly clear, light NW wind, and 5C...In other wards: bugger all to get excited about!
  13. I have seen snow falling at 6C...But only in springtime, when lapse-rates are steeper and the air is often drier...never at this time of year though.
  14. Up to 6C so far...already one above yesterday's maximum. I don't think this is supposed to happen?
  15. What charts? I was merely inventing an hypothetical situation so as to make my point clear(er)... Another miserable failure on my part.
  16. But I haven't said that it's 'no use' BA...just that it is, in some cases, wholly unrepresentative of what's being suggested. Should a run consist of only two distinct clusters (one at, say, -10C; the other at +10C, for example) what does the mean (0C) really tell you about upcoming events?
  17. Thanks for pointing that out, FG; it explains why I seldom if ever pay any attention to ensemble means...in many cases, they simply don't mean anything. Pardon the pun!
