    True enough WS, some people did. But most of us didn't really take them all that seriously...But, a cold winter here might even come as a direct result of warming in the Arctic? It depends on how synoptics respond...

    Indeed we have, mushy. But this year's seen a combination of a fine, warm, dry spring (which ought to encourage early butterfly activity) followed by an abrupt and long-lasting change to cold, wet and windy conditions...I don't think it's been this bad for years? Isn't that paper on animal AIDS a good advert for the introduction of GM crops?

    What exactly is it you object to, 4wd? Is it that you don't accept that the ice-melt this year is unusually large? Or is it that you don't accept that AGW is having any effect on the melt? As yet, I'm yet to see any evidence suggesting that the this year's melt is not a tad extreme...

    If the graph does turn out to be correct (and continues on its present trajectory, until the re-freeze) then a step-change might turn out to be the only conclusion possible. And quite what that would mean for NW Europe is anyone's guess? But, once large parts of the ice-pack have gone, all the latent heat that's currently driving the ice-melt will have to become sensible? What then?

    I find that graph very alarming. So much so, that I'm 'praying' that it's wrong!

    I agree, J...Just because a paper is more than six-months' old (and doesn't agree 100% with one's own hypothesis) is hardly grounds for dismissing it?

    True Ste, but patterns do change. So I'll be looking forward to the 06Z with more than my usual degree of interest...And, anyway, wouldn't unsettled and warm still constitute a change in pattern - however slight it may appear on paper?

    I think that, as time goes on, the consensus among the models will be pointing more and more towards a lasting pattern-change??? Unless, of course, I've opened my mouth too soon!

    Beware folks - the models are 'hunting' for a 'final solution'...Yesterday, the GHP was all but non-existent, this morning it was back, now it's gone again?? IMO, it'll be a few days' yet before we'll know, for sure, what's going to evolve?
