  1. I still cant believe the current spell in Western Ireland with tropical nights going on.. Valentia in west Kerry had a temperature of 25oc at 4am on Tues morning and 24 degrees till 6am and a slight shift on wind I'm sure scuppered our national record minimum temperature and this is September.. Today its so July and wonderful weather..Wish it would go on.. Possible national record high temperature for Ireland today..We wait.. loving ❤️ it..

I was looking at that one earlier, but it seems to be moving east north east now so I've got one near Alghero and one near Bosa which should be direct hits.

It is! So I had special compost in there to make it go blue. But somehow it's stopped working.

I know its sounds weird but I believe if you put 6 inch nails in the ground around the roots it will turn them blue.. Something to do with the iron in the soil

  4. This was a remarkable month in Ireland after the dullest July on record .In early August parts of Kerry recorded 204.4mm of rain in 24 hrs  of what was an exceptionally wet month and coldest on record 13.4  I believe. We also had the pleasure of tropical storm Charlie which caused widespread flooding in the east on the 26th with over 200mm in 24hrs in Wicklow . I was 15 years old at the time and I just remember that month being rotten and cold.Nothing like what we are moaning about now. I would have given anything like the weather now just to get out on my bike.. Twas bad back then and as you say, will we ever see the like again.

  5. WOW 55mm overnight in dublin currently 10 degrees ,northeast gales picking up. This is absolutely shocking and our wettest August day I think since hurricane Charley .This last 5 weeks i hope I never ever see the likes in any month let alone high summer

For what it's worth, my contribution is, I watch something fly over, that was illuminated sky blue underneath, would never have spotted it, if it wasn't for a cloud, saw it, then it disappeared once it was in blue sky. Just came to the conclusion we are working on plane camo, but that's rather pointless, with radar and stuff. That was at some point while I was living in Croydon, so from around 2005/2013. Don't know exactly when, it was summer though.

    sorry misread your quote

  8. Can I just say that I love the fact we can have a topic like this.. So my contribution to this  is that in August 1986 Whilst camping in my parents garden at the age of 16 I saw what was certainly an object that was similar to the shape of a submarine about 15ft long  and 3ft deep suspended about 9 feet above the back wall .It was as Luminous as lightning  ,,I had literally  walked outside the back door and my brother was just behind, I froze for a second ,watched it hover and then it just went vertically at rapid speed up into the sky and disappeared .. I saw something that wasn\t natural and my brother just missed it..It will live with me forever.

I have noticed more moths indeed as I work as a landscape gardener and its actually quite amazing this summer the amount of small butterflies and moths I have observed this year

forgot to mention an incredible amount of mushrooms too

This time last year, there was nothing; there were no butterflies, no moths and nothing in the streetlights. This year, however, the buddleias have small whites, commas, small tortoiseshells, peacocks and red admirals; and that's not to mention the common blues and brimstones that appeared earlier.👍

IMO, summer 2023 has been brilliant! 👍

Slight drizzle this morning, then out for a walk on the beach, overcast but dry and very humid. But since this evening it’s horrendous rain. What’s worse is the gutters were cleaned and some drips fixed at some joints on Friday, I was relieved as the guys did a quick survey of the roof as they had roof ladders and we agreed on some fixes, otherwise alls well. Roll on 3 hours and they are long gone, in the evening I was out with a bucket on my deck as the leak has now moved 😂 and is pouring out water, the down pipe is now fully blocked. Bloody well sick and tired of this weather. For god sake folks prioritise your roof and gutters above all else. It’s worse than a bad November to be honest as you can’t draw the curtains, kind of have to watch it. Not feeling great this evening. Thinking I might spend some time abroad in a few years, Nevada or South Africa and god knows how I’ve changed over the lasT two weekends even Spain. I’m pretty much certain these are the worst July weekends in my memory.

Absolute dreadful weather .The carnival in howth suffered badly and your right in saying so in my opinion too these last 2 weekends are as bad Ive seen in July and I remember the 80s

Considering I had more than 400% of my weekly July average rainfall with less than 50% of sunshine and below average temps, that's not OK! Terrible terrible week.

That 's exactly what I said in my weekly report weather diary

The July 1987 Greece heatwave was one of the worst and probably just as dangerous as this current one. It was over 40c then for a number of days.

Don’t think many Brits would be cancelling a Greek holiday in the summer of 1987, when we were witnessing a truly dire run of cool summers.

Summer 1980 in the USA was probably even worse compared to this current heatwave in Europe. The daytime highs were regularly hitting and exceeding 35c-40c.

    It’s all happened before.

The heat haters just love to latch on to the fact it’s becoming dangerously hot, because they hate the heat, and want everyone else to live in a world where it’s damp and cool all year round.

The 1936 July / August heatwave also in the USA is unprecedented of which many records still stand today. The town of steele North Dakota recorded 49.4 degrees on July 6th along with Alton in Kansas also 49.4 degrees which are still the hottest temps recorded in the contiguous  USA outside of the desserts  , Bismarck exceeded 38  degrees from the 5th to the 12th with 3 of those days reaching 44 degrees .Altu  in  Oklahoma averaged a max of 43.2 for the month of August and Ozark in Arkansas topped 38 degrees for 20 days in a row during the month.  Towns in Texas were over 38 degrees from July 12th till Aug 27th.Even Wisconsin had temps over 45 degrees among many days over 40 .Many states suffered and night minima of 33 degrees  must of been harsh when air conditioning was non existent with giant ice cubes placed in front of fans and people sleeping outside. Nothing like it has come close and that's how people coped. The media would be in a frenzy now but this was 87 years ago.
