  1. Large wet snowflakes now falling in Bacup, no sign of settling, but it's a start. Hopefully this will improve as the day progresses and the colder air digs in.
  2. Here in the Rossendale valley today we've had everything thrown at us, including numerous hail storms. The temperature at the moment is holiding up, but hopefully we may get some snow tomorrow night/Monday, there has to be some advantages of living at 1000ft on the side of a hill!!
  3. Very dark outside, but nothing much showing on the radar for Bury - strange!
  4. I was wondering about that myself, it is still extremely cold outside, the ground is frozen solid as are the ponds, I cannot see this falling as rain to begin with. Lets hope
  5. Snow falling in Bacup as I left at 0730 that followed me all the way to Edenfield then it stopped, only a very light covering everywhere, more snow grains than snow, nothing in Bury.
  6. I can still see snow in the gullies on the hill opposite my house, its a north facing slope. Shadowfax
  7. We took the dogs out yesterday on the fields behind the house, I was amazed to see so much snow still lying in the lee of walls and places with no direct sun, its frozen solid. Its very cold here today but with a clear blue sky I think it will warm up pretty quickly. Its time to go to the garden centre at last! Shadowfax
  8. When I went out a 8pm the gritters were going down the road from the depot, what do they know that we don't. They did not forecast anything for here tonight not even frost! Shadowfax
  9. It snowed last night and sort of settled then froze. The hills about 100ft higher than me looked quite white this morning but it was still rather dark when I left home, now in Bury the sun is blazing down but there seems to be a lot of cloud bubbling up which could produce something later. Shadowfax
  10. The snow did follow me home, snowing here and settling, a bitter wind and a row of icicles hanging off the front of my stables which were not there this morning. Shadowfax
  11. Just this minute started to snow very lightly in Bury. Hopefully will follow me all the way home to Bacup, an increase in altitude of about 800ft. Shadowfax

    Snow Winter 2009-2010

  13. As previously requested I have compressed my pictures, I'm very sorry about their original size, I must adjust the resolution on my camera. I have also added in a couple from Friday morning as well. Shadowfax
  14. We've just had the most amazing shower, it lasted about 15 minutes and now everything is covered again. Enormous flakes and loads of them. Hopefully the temperature will start to drop and this will stay around for a while. Shadowfax
  15. Just started snowing again as the raintoday radar was showing. Only very light at the moment. Shadowfax
  16. Just been up to the stables and it is snowing nicely in Bacup, a good covering on everything and looks like it is intensifying. Radar shows another hour or so at least to come. Shadowfax
  17. If you look at raintoday website you can see on the radar Shadowfax
  18. We still have a covering from yesterday, but now we have freezing fog, everything is becomming covered in a layer of white frost, very pretty, but deadly under foot, the local weather station is giving a ground temperature of minus 4.5. Looking at the radar is that irish sea streamer moving to the north a bit so it may give us some thing later? Shadowfax
  19. When I woke up briefly at 1.30 it was still snowing then. We have about 3cm of light fluffy snow covering everything, no wind so every twig and branch has a covering. Shadowfax
  20. Same here, its been snowing since about 6pm and now its starting to settle and as you say looking at the radar there appears to be plenty more around. Shadowfax
  21. Looking at the latest Raintoday radar picture, the precipitation that went north through Bacup is now coming back down towards it again and joining up with the stuff coming up from the south, does this mean its all about to shoot eastwards rather than carry on tracking north do you think? Shadowfax
  22. What a surprise, it was heavy sleet at 1030 last night and now its all white! I would say between 2-3 cms on everything and also its icy. It doesnt feel like it will stay around there is that drip drip coming from the eaves. Shadowfax Its now 0715 and its snowing again.
