  1. Looking at the gfs so far, the snow risk for this area is increasing all the time, a vast improvement, even looks very heavy and more cold air coming in around the low which was not shown on the earlier run. Fingers crossed that my altitude will make all the difference.
  2. Seems to be a bit more sleety here in the heavy bursts. Hopefully the temperatures will start to drop and it will turn to snow as the night progresses. Shadowfax
  3. Snowing quite heavily here in Bury and looking like a few more showers following the same line on the radar, hopefully this is actually settling properly in Bacup which is about 800ft higher than here. Shadowfax
  4. I've just gone up to the stables and it's snowing, only very light but it is settling on the frosty surfaces. There is nothing on the radar, but this is Bacup and it comes out of nowhere, it must be our height. Shadowfax
  5. Just driven from Bury to Bacup and had heavy snow with large flakes all the way, its settling on roads and pavements quite happily now. All the trees, grass etc are totally covered and there appears to be loads more heading in this direction. Shadowfax
  6. Light snow in Bury now but intensifying as I type! Shadoiwfax
  7. Its showing slight precipitation on the radar, but nothing at all is coming out of the sky. Also about 1/2 hour ago it was showing a blizzard over bury and there was nothing, maybe this was a fault on the radar. Has anyone in the region seen anything, rain or snow? Shadowfax
  8. Well that was rather a surprise, it's snowed in Bacup already, the cold air has arrived and things are freezing up. Roll on tomorrow!! Shadowfax
  9. Just been snowing lightly but with proper flakes in Bury, settled on the grass, but only a few flakes so cant been seen unless you look. Was very pretty against the sun set. Shadowfax
  10. I can easily believe this, as I look out of the window at the moment the snow content of the rain comes and goes depending on the intensity. Shadowfax
  11. After a whole day here in Bury where it's snowed consistently but produced nothing, I have just looked out of the window and its starting to settle, all the cars are white and the car park is on the way too. What will it be like at home which is 800 ft higher than here! Half an hour and I can drive home and see!
  12. Snowing lightly in Bury and is intensifying slightly as time passes. Looking at the Rain today radar there is some more heading this way, whether it will make it to Bacup I am unsure at the moment, but I think we've really had enough there already, I still have very inconvenient snow drifts in my garden!!
  13. Oh, I agree with you, I love the snow, but would really like this to go now and give us a break, even if its only for a week. My garden is now a load of deep drifts where the snow has blown off my field and walking up the steps to the top of the garden is now rather hazardous, I acually slipped and sat down in it today trying to get the dogs to come in. Every night I drive back from Bury where its thawing and as I drive up into the valley I cannot believe it hasn't gone even a little bit. Looks like we're due some more tonight so another nerve shattering decent down my drive tomorrow!
  14. Its horrible out there, light snow but blizzard conditions with blowing snow. The garden is full of drifts from the field and its difficult to see where the steps are. I know its boring and I love the snow, but really it would be nice for all this to go now so we can enjoy another load in the future. Shadowfax
  15. Looks like I managed to get back from Surrey just in time as it seems to have intensified now. Lets see what happens tonight, another top up in our 4th week with lying snow. Shadowfax
  16. I can't believe that I have driven all the way from Bacup to Surrey, there is no snow falling here, but it looks like there is now loads heading for Bacup, I'm never in the right place at the right time. We packed the car will all the important things like shovel, blankets, biscuits and a flask of hot choc and didn't need any of it, there was just a bad bit around to top of the M42 which started to settle, but there were an awful lot of gritters around. Looking at the forecast, getting home on Sunday may be a bit more interesting. Hope you all have a good night watching the radar and get some more of the white stuff. Shadowfax Temporarily in Surrey
  17. Thanks, I thought I was imagining things - lets hope it keeps going towards the west - it's being very greedy really, we still have loads and that is being topped up by small showers every day. Shadowfax
  18. I've been watching that as well and wondered when someone with some knowledge might mention it! If it develops more, do you think it might throw some precipitation in our direction?
  19. I have just arrived in Bury with a slight detour to Asda in Rawtenstall. It is amazing and horrendos all at the same time. Snow is still falling in Bury, great big flakes and about 5 inches of settled snow on the car park... using the builders digger to clear spaces , but if it carries on like this, they will have to dig then out as well. Looking at the radar there is still loads more heading down from the north. Just deciding what time to go home again as I think it will be even thicker in Bacup. Fun times!! Shadowfax
  20. Well that BBC forecast looked pretty good, south pennines 10 to 15cms on top of about 5inches still remaining. Even I might get snowed in tomorrow!! Shadowfax
  21. There you go, I've added Bacup under Saddleworth, probably about the same - 5 inches fell in 3 hours on Saturday topping up what was left. Saddleworth Bacup Rochdale Douglas Wythenshawe Shadowfax

    Bacup 3rd January

More pictures taken looking down the valley this morning
  23. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing something from this, it just keeps on getting thicker and thicker, it must be the altitude, I am sure oldham, saddleworth and that area should see somthing, its heading in that direction on the radar.
  24. We've had about 3.5 inches now and its still coming down. Looking at the radar there is just more and more to come. The snow flakes are enormous. Photos cannot do it justice, but this was taken looking across my field to my neighbours who are out with their dogs. Shadowfax
  25. We've had about three inches since 9am this morning and more coming down, enormous snowflakes the size of about 3 x 50p joined together. I've just come back with my neighbours from walking the dogs up on the hills behind the house and it was a total whiteout, being a southerner I've never seen snow like this come down quite so quickly. Thankfully I've got a 4wd or there wont be anything for supper tonight - fed up with Turkey and ham in different guises!! Shadowfax
