  1. One minute it snowing the next raining, I though my altitude would save me, but it doesn't look like we'll get any smow from this, I can hear it dripping off the trees, horrible. Shadowfax
  2. We've had a shower of moderate snow, looking at the rainfall radar it was just a one off and not the main band. If the main band is the same we will have loads by morning. Shadowfax
  3. At least I know what I am going home to, what's it going to be by 5.30? Is the snow still there from this morning? Shadowfax
  4. Snowing hard in Bacup, settling well. The gritters are out in force, they are obviously expecting more to fall. The radar looks good, the showers seem to be having no problem jumping from the east side to the pennines to the west side. Shadowfax
  5. Clear stary sky and a thick frost. Not a breath of wind at 06.18. Shadowfax
  6. I have the same problem with lack of street lights and have put a big security light on a tree in the garden which I can turn on from the house, great for watching the snow. Shadowfax
  7. It started to snow here, big wet flakes, but seems to have gone more to sleet now. Shadowfax
  8. I am at 343m asl but as yet there is nothing going on here in Bacup. Looking at the radar the precipation has not even got as far as Manchester yet. It is very cold here, the frost has been on the ground all day, and I followed the gritting lorry up the valley at 1530, they usually know what's going to happen. No snow forecast for here however, does anyone know why that is. Thanks Shadowfax
  9. No, they were when I went outside earlier, but now they are bigger and look like snow. I think its probably my altitude, it usually about 1 or 2 degrees colder here than Rochdale, when ever we drive home through Rochdale you can see the temp falling as we climb. If you look at the raintoday website, it looks like it's still heading in our direction and getting heavier. Update - just thought I would check again when I let the dogs in - it's now proper snow flakes. Shadowfax
  10. Snowing here now, wind very strong so its horizontal rather than falling snow! Shadowfax
  11. Same here, this has been a good winter so far for us in Bacup, I've only been here for 5 years and we've had a couple of decent falls each year but this has been the best and stayed around longest. What amazes me is that it rains all summer and then as soon as it could be snow it seems to disappear. It it chucking down something outside, I think it is sleet, all I know that is extremely cold in that strong wind. Shadowfax
  12. It's been snowing here since 3pm, started off light and has got heavier and heavier, now very big flakes and lots of them, everything is covered, cobbles, cars, twigs, leaves and deck, looking at the radar we still have it bit more to come. Shadowfax
  13. Snowing here now and getting heavier. Settling on the cars and topping up existing couple of inches still lying from earlier in week. Shadowfax
  14. Thanks for that, looks like it is intensifying again, still loads of snow on the ground here and all frozen solid. I am sure we will get some more at our altitude. Shadowfax
  15. Do you think we might get something this afternoon from those showers coming down from the north, the cloud in Bacup keeps coming and going, but no real thaw in evidence, its still thick on the ground. Shadowfax
  16. It's been snowing here very lightly for a couple of hours, not really doing anything other than dusting, but still plenty on the ground from earlier this week. I would be nice to top it up for the weekend. Shadowfax
  17. I keep looking at the meto radar and that precipitation is creeping towards us, does anyone think it will make it? I know its supposed to go south, but everything seems to be going north still. Shadowfax
  18. Snowing lightly in Bacup when I left and got progressively heavy as I drove towards Bury. Still snowing in Bury and covering the frozen ground easily. Difficult to see on the radar exactly which way what is left below manchester will go, hopefully Northwest, but that seems unlikely, never mind, still have loads at home and that's all frozen solid now. Shadowfax
  19. Thanks for that info, another night with the heating on, these combi boilers don't like the cold and once they go off they seem to stay off!! I presume that means this will all be staying for a while, very pretty but deadly when it gets icy. Shadowfax
  20. Well that means it was significant here, I've got home to find that nothing has changed at all, there is still snow on the branches and there are icicles hanging from the house. Shadowfax
  21. Great pictures, I took mine before it got really light, but you get the idea. The ones of the drifts in the garden did not come out, but they were beautiful, all curvy. Shadowfax
  22. At last pictures of last night's snow in Bacup Shadowfax
  23. Snowed heavily here over night, so sign of any melting yet. Amazing drifts with curls and waves. Will ask husband to take pictures when the sun comes up. Shadowfax
