  1. Looking at the rain today radar there is a nice band of precipitation heading in this direction turning to snow as it comes, we are now going into our third week with snow cover and I would say we have had some snow, even very light every day. This makes up for all those days of constant rain in the summer!! Shadowfax
  2. Its been snowing here as well for about 10 minutes and everything is covered in a fine layer again topping up the gaps between the thick snow that has not yet melted. Looking at the radar there are clumps of precipitation popping up to the north of us which will hopefully keep coming. Shadowfax
  3. Just back from walking the dog on the fields up behind the house which are about 50-60ft higher up than the house, it was vile out there, very strong wind and blizzard conditions. It is definately settling up there and its still coming down now. Flake size varies by the minute. Shadowfax
  4. Thats good to know, without a weather station of my own is just guess work what is going on, the wind seems to have abated a bit, no longer roaring like to was earlier. Just wish it would settle properly, maybe if the temp continues to drop we will have better cover. Shadowfax
  5. Its been snowing here all night, but there is not alot to show for it, but now it seems to have changed, big flakes which seems to cover if they get the chance to hit anything, but its the wind it is howling and the snow is horizontal, not a day to be going outside. The ground temp on the weather station up in Weir is now -1.8 which is much lower than it was last night Shadowfax
  6. Quite a blizzard here in Bacup, just starting to settle so might get a covering if this carries on. Shadowfax
  7. I'm sure it's slowly nudging in our direction, fingers crossed. We still have far too much nasty ice/snow lying on the ground here, so maybe some more rain would be a good idea and wash it all away for the next lot - but knowing bacup weather it will be snow if anything. Shadowfax
  8. I can confirm it is snowing in Bacup, just came back from a quick drink at the neighbours, and ask we walked out of their back door a big flake hit me. It's been sleeting on and off all day, but this is snow and it was settling. Shadowfax
  9. Still snowing here although I can now see the sun peeking through the clouds to the south of me.
  10. Sorry everyone but its still snowing like mad here, I know it's my altitude, it only starts to turn to snow on the radar as it comes north past Bury. Shadowfax
  11. Snowing again here in bacup, small flakes but lots of them! Shadowfax
  12. I'm the same, woke up at 4.40 and can't get back to sleep, the sky looks very heavy again here, but without waking up the dogs I can't put on the security lights to see if it's actually snowing. Looks like we've had another 4 or so inches. Good thing I took the day off just hope it stays around long enough to enjoy it today. Shadowfax
  13. Same here, just a few flakes floating around in the wind, but at least its snow and not rain. Shadowfax
  14. I came home early yesterday and managed to capture this picture just before it got dark, its still all there this morning but today there is some wind and its drifting around.
  15. Just had another shower, started as grauple and turned into snow. The radar shows this line of showers going all the way back to the irish sea where it starts as rain and turns to snow as it travels east. Shadowfax
  16. Thanks for that, I have just spoken to the husband who is sitting at home and confirmed what you had said earlier - loads of snow!!! Can't wait to get back, just hope it lasts until Christmas Day. It's actually very thick in Bury which is unusual, and the traffic is terrible, no sign of any gritters and the world and his wife are shopping and crawling around in their little igloo cars. Shadowfax
  17. Now where the hell did that come from. I have been out and about since 7.30 am doing work things, driving from Bacup to Rawtenstall and then to and around Bury and I am now sitting in the office. I'ts absolute murder out there. There is snow all over the roads and it's still snowing in Bury and looking at the Radar there is still more out there. No rain here just great big snow flakes. Leaving early to start the long trip home to Bacup where it could get very interesting if there are 6-8 inches now. Shadowfax
  18. We've had another inch over night, and it looks like there is another block of showers heading this way on the radar. Fingers crossed! Shadowfax
  19. I have just driven from Bacup to Bury, the depth of snow was pretty similar all the way, probably a bit more actually in Bacup itself, and it was snowing hard when I left. Roads are terrible once you get out of Rossendale. If you havn't got 4WD you need to be very careful or stay put! Shadowfax
  20. One of those showers has just gone through bacup, it was not rain - grauple with snow. Shadowfax Just had a flash of lightening as well - could not hear the thunder so maybe its still a way away.
  21. Yes, it is snowing again, quite heavy. Lets hope this keeps up all night. Shadowfax
  22. I left Bacup this morning with a lovely covering of snow, that fizzled out around the M1 junction and there was no covering of snow until about Goole. Heavy snow in Hull, had lunch and then drove all the way back came off the M62 at Brighouse to avoid the jams and drove all the way back to Bacup in heavy snow to find we had been plastered here, thanks Suzuki for their 4WD cars or I could not have got up the drive at all. As I type this there was a flash of lightening and a crack of thunder, I'll have to put the outside lights on and see if its started snowing again. Shadowfax
  23. That first shower has just gone through, amazing what a shower can produce on frozen ground. Going to take the dogs out in the field now and take some pictures of the amazing sunrise, the cloud tops are bright pink. Can't wait for the next shower which is brewing out to the west. Shadowfax
  24. It's just started in Bacup so should hit you soon, big flakes and instant coverage on this frozen ground. Shadowfax
  25. That band of precipitation is coming closer, if it keeps on in that direction we might get some of this snow, nothing last night to speak of, just a bit of slush on top of the existing snow and now its frozen solid and like a ice ring, very crisp but not very deep! Going to Hull this morning for lunch, so will be packing the survival gear just in case we have problems getting home!! Shadowfax I've just use the council weather station data from the sensor about 1/2 mile up the hill behind me and it says ground temperature of -8.2. No wonder it's so crispy. Shadowfax
