The roads & lanes of West Lancs are my cycling roads, and waterlogged fields are a common sight.....I recall after September 2019, one particular field was under water until the dry 'lockdown' spring. When I got up this morning, I could imagine it being January...it just had that feel/ look.....Something to look forward to.....

Yes - anything for some dry, sunny weather, no matter the temperature. 10c and raining just enables the old 'but at least its mild'.....

November - the month that rarely delivers; instead we usually get grey, wet & windy murk - and with the leaves usually gone, a rather colourless month. However, I'm glad a few people have mentioned 1985; as well as an evening paper round, I did a few days in the morning as a stand in for a friend; and ended up getting another round permanently - and my memory is of a cold month - and only weeks after doing evening rounds in just a t-shirt. Both 1988 & 1993 had snow mid month; which coincided with the RAC Rally, and 1996 was similar - though at the end of the month. More recently, and already mentioned, 2016; from my cycling stats I had a healthy amount of activities - so a decent amount of usable weather - and frost at the end of the month.

Yes, some usable weather please. I'd like to get out on my bicycle without being soaked, or blown across the road/ trail........

US ski resort Snowshoe, West Virginia held the penultimate round of the MTB World Cup 2 weekends ago; and by the weekend just gone was already covered with snow..... -
When I was a kid, Bonfire/Guy Fawkes Night was always a bigger deal than Hallowe'en....... Lots of organised displays, 'penny for the guy', etc Now thanks to the US, we're bombarded all October with Hallowe'en tat.....

Winter 2023/24 - Discussions & Forecasts

One of my hobbies is cycling; a mild, wet & windy winter isn't exactly what I want......It tends to be 'sods law' that any 'less bad' weather is when I can't make use of it..... -
Having been out cycling in both conditions, I can agree that cold, freezing rain is far worse than riding in snow. In fact, it's horrendous......

I have a web camera permamently on Spitsbergen - and the last two days have brought a change: Webcam - LNS Spitsbergen WEATHERCAM.KYSTNOR.NO Webcam - LNS Spitsbergen -
Yeah; it's the endless greyness, and trees stripped of their leaves - means it's thoroughly unpleasant. And as a cyclist, I find all a chore.....bring me the cold, crisp sunny days....some of my favourite bikes rides have been in cool, crisp weather.

I left school that summer, and sat through the whole debacle......29 players used in 6 Tests; and considering the glorious weather, rain at Edgbaston & The Oval saved them from a 6-0 whitewash.

What I recall about Autumn 2019, is the final weekend of September coincided with the World Road Cycling championships in Harrogate; one of the fan parks had to be shut due to flooding - and the rain which fell....and didn't seem to stop for the rest of the autumn or into winter. Absolutely grim.....grey, wet & windy. The weather only seemed to turn in mid March, just as the first lockdown was introduced.....

Yeah, a few showers then a usable afternoon, though rather cool. Got the bike out, and it felt cooler than 16C, so decided on the leg warmers; I can take them off when it gets too warm......ended up keeping them on. Felt far cooler than the actual temperature. And it might actually be late August, but if you said it was 3-4 weeks later I could well believe you.

Winter 2023/24 - Discussions & Forecasts

I actually preferred Dec 2009 to Dec 2010 because of this. We had snow about a week before, and a few other falls, but there was no disruption. There was still the odd patches of snow around on Christmas Eve/ Day, so it looked and felt seasonal....and we got another dumping in early Jan. Whereas 2010 caused problems with roads not gritted....I recall a story of a pub not too far way stocking up for Christmas, and very few people could get there, except on foot. -

I actually preferred Dec 09/Jan 10 to the following year......so I'd gladly take that now. 87/88 I certainly wouldn't....and Christmas Day was nigh on warm..... -
I had a morning paper round from 1985-1987; I got a surprise in late September 1986 when I woke up to frost for 2-3 days; papers to deliver and cold hands.....
